Rant about planned site content

Postby BenoitRen » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:59 pm

Hi there, your co-administrator here speaking. I need to let off some steam.

In a couple days it's Phantasy Star Cave's 10th birthday, and I was to create new sections for the site and add some content. But I'm a great procrastinor, had an exam, and ran into difficulties. I've tried to contact Missagh, but he doesn't respond. Makes me wonder if we are going to get phpBB3 on time.

Task 1: Phantasy Star 20th Anniversary art section

This one has been planned for something like half a year now. The problem: all the credits are in Japanese. skymandr stepped up to translate them.

He did a big chunk of them, then vanished. Months later, yumpoptart offered to help, but skymandr wanted to finish it. I poked yumpoptart from time to time on the progress (as skymandr didn't reply to PMs), but there is no response. Last I heard, the translations was almost done.

The basic lay-out is already taken care of, and I've downloaded all of the art in the meantime. So I'm really only waiting for the translation now.

Task 2: Expand Phantasy Star Online section

I'm still not sure what to add. Adding Episode II's story is a given, but what else? The new classes, probably. But I'm worried that I'll just end up copying content from other sites.

Task 3: Phantasy Star Online: Episode III section

I have most of the cards donated by CARD-Revolution.com from years back. Then I noticed that I don't have the Story Character cards. And where am I going to get all the card descriptions with their abilities? Not to mention that some descriptions are wrong. I'm not going to copy PSO World's database.

A sub-section about the Characters shouldn't be a problem, right? Wrong. I've searched, and searched, but character art is hard to come by. When you do find some, there's an ugly site label on the character, or it's low quality. Most of the time, if you find some, it's Break and Sil'fer.

Task 4: Phantasy Star Universe section

Characters section shouldn't be hard. There should definitely be a section on grinding, as it has changed from PSO and can be confusing. Other than that, I have no idea. PSUPedia covers the game very well already.

F***! F***ing damn it! Aargh!

Today I was typing up those PSO: Episode III card descriptions on my laptop while the game was running on the TV. When I decided I had done enough for the day, I shut down the GameCube and put everything back on its place. Then, when I get ready to transfer the two text files to a USB flash drive, my laptop dies! NOOOOO!

I hope that your hard drive isn't dead, or you have recently made backups.

  • My laptop isn't fixed yet.
  • Missagh has disappeared again.
  • I hear nothing from the Sega employee anymore about my request for PSO: Episode III artwork.
  • I'm not sure what to do with my PSU scripts.
  • I'm not sure what to do with the PSO and PSU sections.

I don't even know what's broken yet. The friend that was going to take a look at it has had a broken car for months. And each time I was going to another friend where I could leave the laptop for the first one to pick up, I forgot it. >_<

If he has time to make a couple posts every couple days, he surely has time to respond to one of mine.

Having a life doesn't preclude visiting a message board. It's not like it requires dedication.

Ben, don't take all this too literally.

I think Missagh just didn't saw this post among all other posts just because he doesn't visit here too often and sees heaps of new messages. What I've "seen" he visits here, then reads fan game topics, writes few sentences and then leaves.
Actually I think he doesn't use "View new posts since last visit" -link because there just too much talk (like arguing about homosexuals  ).

That's just my guess. Correct me if I'm wrong, Missagh!

Well honestly I do try to read all topics, however some one them that requires some planning and reflecting normally makes me think "let me get back to this one when I get back from work"... and it goes history from there...

Nevertheless, I will improve :)
