short version: i will be continuing work whenever I buy a new PC, which I haven't done yet. i wanna port to mobile phones.

wow, i haven't posted anything in a long time. i'm still alive, and the project is still on hiatus until I get a new PC. I've decided to downscale my project so that I can work on other features that I would like to include in the game after the 1.0 release. Basically I will include less enemies, weapons, techniques etc (oh yeah, less TOWNZ lol) and include more after if there is enough interest.

I am also trying to get a license for "Mono for Android" so that I can use the ExEn project to port the project to Android. Honestly this project is more suited for portable devices. I can port this game to iPhones currently however as I do not have an iPhone I can't test anything (maybe when I get a new PC I can try the emulator)

it may be a while...i honestly am having a hard time saving for even a cheap PC and the administration at my job is horrible and my paychecks are pretty small (and i spend a lot).

tomorrow i'll see if i'm able to afford a pc this month or if i can put away some cash for next month. as my laptop is dying i've uploaded a copy of my source code in the event that the worst happens.

Getting a cheap PC should be easy. Tons of older but perfectly usable PCs are dumped every day. Ask around if anyone is looking to get rid of one. The waste disposal center could help you as well.

I've seen some old-school laptops on Ebay that still boot go for as little as a dollar. They are pretty ancient running Win95 and such, but if you look around you might be able to find something that can internet well enough for code backups for a pittance. Aim for about Windows 2000 if you want thumb drive and modern wi-fi support- Win98 required a patch and for some reason NT is just strange on compatibility charts compared to the other versions.

If it's just for surfing the web and coding, anything from 1997 and later will do. But for XNA you'll need a machine from 2005 or later and a good video card.

thanks for the tips guys i'm well aware of my needs. also i live in kuwait so ebaying is annoying for anything that weighs more than a few pounds although i do have excellent shipping options (Aramex).

I may get a new HP or Toshiba laptop on credit as it may be funner than a desktop even though it'll be twice as expensive as building a desktop and not as powerful. I recently remembered how enjoyable coding while smoking at a nice hooka bar can be!

Hopefully this week I can get it heck maybe today even.

I still intend on finishing this project because it's honestly a lot of fun even for me, which is saying a lot because i feel that in general coders don't like playing their own games. I read in an interview with some famous game designer that he wishes he could enjoy the games he helps create...

anyway some "news"...i don't think i can port my game to android using ExEn because the Mono for Android software costs...get this...$2999 or something. ridiculous! they don't offer a student version only a emulator option for free but I can't compile on that. So, maybe if I get extra money I'll get a windows 7 phone. I'll attempt to port to iphone since everyone in Kuwait owns an iphone4/s.

I've been thinking about the structure of this program a lot and I'm really having a hard time deciding how to structure the monsters. At least, I want them to be as close as possible in stats and weaknesses as in the original games (not that it makes a huge difference honestly) but it's gonna be tough. PSIV has some stupid flags that would take too long to code and then I would have to make all the other monsters the same...or make some really stupid and bad structured coding to get all the types in.

So, I decided that I'm going to think about that problem later, as I just need to implement a few monsters so I can have a playable version of this game. The last time I stopped coding I was about to add a monster's animations [chirper from PSIII] (I removed a lot of monster code because for some reason it wasn't working the way I wanted it to) however I stopped as my laptop stopped working for a month.

anyway I know i've been saying i need a pc for a long time now but I reallllly need one as i believe this one is on the verge of not working for several reasons and I'm sick of dealing with it. it doesn't even have HDMI out and i hate tranferring files to USB so I can watch them on my TV. when not connected to the charger (which doesn't work usually) I only get 20 minutes battery life. so you can see how I have little patience coding on it.

anyway I decided that if I ever decide to stop working on this thing i will release the full source code. That does not mean that I intend on stopping coding anything soon!

thank you

Installed VS2010. The coding bug bit me again :)
If I could only stop fooling around with 3d though...I think I wanna release a tiny teaser youtube video as thanks for everyone that waited patiently for me to finally get a pc and start coding again :)

I converted my old XNA 3.1 code to XNA 4.0! Seems that I left off with half a finished post battle results screen.

It looks good, but may or may not be the final one. I'm sure not everyone's gonna like it, but I can replace it another time I guess.

Once I get this enemy to animate correctly I may post a youtube

For the past week or two i've been researching something really cool that I want to try out. Its kind of related to PSBattle. As its more of a cool concept I don't want to include it in the main program (at least not at this point, maybe after I accomplish everything else.

Every time i approached PSbattle it's been disorienting. The code needs cleaned up and re-commented, but aside from that it's mostly bug free. I don't want to add anything else to the engine until finish up several easy things. I want to research a way to use spritesheets (which i've painfully been neglecting hahahah) and a way to quickly add in enemies using just animations. Of course, I haven't even touched the AI logic but I'm leaving that for later.

A question though: do you guys think that the enemies from PS II/III/IV will mesh well in every background?

I'm currently coding enemy animations and realized a very big thing: enemies that move around (aka Rappy from PSIII) are gonna be a headache, so I decided to only code enemies that have sprites that don't move around the screen.

I think I wanna code a town soon...any suggestions?

the basic battle engine is mostly complete but missing some stuff, i'm still deciding on the best way to handle collision for towns and entering stores. I wanna release a demo where at least you can buy stuff, so if you really wanted to you can earn a ton of meseta if you're bored one day :)
