And that's OK, as long as you don't start degrading other people's likings and ideas simply because you don't like them...
You may have grown up with the Classics but I've only got to know them a couple years after PSO, when the Generation Games were already on sale.
I identify better with the redesigned characters and the more modern game visuals, no matter being budget-level, that's all.
I played PS1 & PS4, I liked them, but still I prefer the Generation Games, no more, no less.

Missagh, thanks for your post, that's the exact point.

In other words, I'm not allowed to voice my dislike of something to you. Point noted.

I didn't grow up with the classics. I got to know them around the time that Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast was released.

You already voiced your dislike and the conclusion was that you and xrick have different opinions. I don't understand what else you are looking for here... As I stated earlier, this particular discussion ends now. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns.

Let's leave the space for the translation progress.

Tryphon: you make a good point. Unfortunately, I think that would require creating a map and then pointing to that image. I'm sure it can be done, but I think it would require an advance romhacker, which sad to say, I am not.

Another possibility could be if a pointer was found that "shrank" the space between letters: OrakioRob,Ignitz, and RodolfoRG found a value for the text used in speech/dialogue. They were generous enough to show me; we are all trying to find similar ways to decrease the space in the spell, items, and names...I spent hours with no luck:( I think there could be a real possibility that the names could be longer if this is found, but some care would be needed to edit the speech text so that special codes are not overwritten. I think I will leave that for someone else to tackle though; I just wanna translate the game completely at least once, hehe.

I have been helping OrakioRob with the monster names showing up beneath them. For the longest time, I played with the map of these letters to use the kana as "English," since the original programmers placed pointers for the English letters up to Z...but stopped making the font at D. This weekend, I "transplanted" the map from PSG2,tweaked each letter to fit in the spaces, and voila! Letters! Due to the pixel constraints and the misery of aligning 3 channels worth of images, the spaces aren't always "perfect" between letters, but I am happy enough with it to leave it like so. Sometimes I feel like the kid with poor coordination making the worst macaroni art in the class while working on this game...

It's already a great attempt you're doing there, good luck with it.

BTW, why are you using GSdx? Is in any way better than PCSX2 for this case?

Thanks. Actually, I am using PCSX2 version 0.9.8: the GSdx is the plug-in it uses for the video. I think earlier PCSX2 versions had another type as an option, too, but they got rid of it in this version. So, my changes are completely playable in PCSX2, no worries :D

You're absolutely right. My priority is also to release the translation; after that, we'll try to solve the problem with spell names and stuff like that, so we can make it even better! And thanks a lot for your help with monster names!

As I told you, I'm not a rom hacker, RodolfoRG and Ignitz are working on it for me. As soon as the translation is released, I'll work with them so we can compile all the tools, document everything and release it so that other people can make their own translations into other languages. That would be great!

I have a question to everyone around here, hope someone can help me with this one...

PSG:1 have 10 boss battles but I wanted to split them through Boss and Sub-Boss.
Here's the list:
Medusa
Mad Doctor
La Shiec
Dark Falz
Gold Drake
Dragonwise
Red Dragon
Frost Dragon
Black Dragon
Bone Golem

I already have an idea of where to set a few of them:
Boss:
Medusa
La Shiec
Dark Falz

Sub-Boss:
Red Dragon
Frost Dragon
Black Dragon
Bone Golem

So, to Mad Doctor, Dragonwise & Gold Drake, where should I set them?

A little out of the subject, but I remember tht I was surprised to see that in PSG2, Arima was in fact Arimaya and Oputa was Oputano (but my poor japanese and the fact I read quickly could have mistaken me).

Motabia & Dezolis were Mota & Dezo in PS2, so I'm not that surprised...

At first they were called Motavia and Dezoris, and Parma was Palma... i still think Motavia and Dezoris and Palma are more correct... plus they just sound better.
Palma is a tropical planit, so when i hear Palma.. i think.. Palm tree... can't really explain the other 2, but they do sound like they fit more.

A lot of words would just not fit originally when translated, so we ended up with VERY short abbreviated words.

Oh! And glad to see this translation still going!

I prefer too Palma, Motavia and Dezoris. I knew about them a long time ago, but Arimaya and Oputano came as a surprise...

I think that should be more than enough proof that the translation of that time was faulty...
I'll stick with Parma, Motabia & Dezolis, they may not sound the best but I believe to be the proper naming.

Of course, everyone is free to believe in whatever they want...

In fact, there's no proper naming. I saw all these transcriptions on official Sega materials, and Parma / Palma are written the same in Japanese, and so for the two others.
