Is there any status on this? It would be absolutely fantastic to have this done in time for the holiday break. Kyence I am so happy seeing those screenshots that I only wish you were willing to have others helping you with translation to get it done faster. It might be better to do a rough 'beta' first-pass rough translation and then polish it up afterwards along with bugfixes and such.

Hell, if anyone wants to post the entire Japanese script on a website, then you can use various machine translators to get *most* of it very quickly translated. It isn't anywhere near ideal but it may reduce some of the workload.

I haven't had news from Kyence for quite a long time. I'll try to contact her.

Hiei-/ Blaw has translated about 80% of the game. Though, I doubt the translation will be over for Christmas.

I had to slow down my activity because my wife and I got a baby last week.

Google Translate is not an option (I tried, it's mmainly nonsense).

Yeah, didn't have news from Kyence either but she's probably just busy.

French translation of the game script is planned to be over for the end of the month, though the patch will be probably available only a few months later (will require an edit of the translation, and lots of beta-tests to spot the typos/errors).

At least, once the translation will be over, I will be able to confirm then that the game is working fawlessly on the real hardware (we found a crash but we know what produce it, the main translation file have a limit and if you outpass that limit, the game crash. That's the only file which give that problem because the original file is already pretty big, it's the one which contains Paseo's texts. So the translation in that file will have to be shortened a bit, or a part of it moved somewhere else. Except that, I don't remember any other problems).

Right now, my save is at Dezolis and I'm waiting to finish the translation to resume it and finish the game (I have three files left to translate, except the one for the consult function which I'll do later, once those three will be done, because it's not really useful for now : Skure, Espers' Mansion, Orbital Forteress).

Kyence gave some news, she's still working on the english translation, she's at ~25%.

She's actually translating the main and biggest file, Paseo's one (which is 20% of the size of the whole dialogs script)

Hello, everyone. Just dropping in quickly to let everyone know I'm still working on things. This has been a rather hectic year for me: got a new job, got married, got sick, etc. etc. I also had to replace my computer and use what spare time I had in moving files over. Luckily nothing was lost in regards to the translation. I know you have all been patiently waiting for the translation to come out and I truly thank you for it - it gave me motivation to come back to this even when time delayed it. If it's any consolation, that's more of my life story than I have posted anywhere else on the Internet this past year :lol:

I've congratulated Tryphon on his newest family addition, but I'm gonna do it again here, because you can never give too much goodwill :D :clap:

Don't worry about it, just take your time and keep up the good work. And, of course, stay fine ;)

Few years back, I remember reading heavily upon how there were going to be these updated versions of Phantasy Star I, II, and IV and they'd be brought out West. Who wouldn't be excited by seeing a resurgence of quite possibly one of the greatest RPG series? Crushed by the fact that once the project for IV was put on suspension and thus killed the entire project, I never thought I'd get a chance to play these games. Or at least be able to play them and actually experience them as intended.

When I stumbled upon this translation project, my heart just could not keep still. I had to register and post. It literally became an obligation to stop whatever I was doing, read the entire thread thus far and register.

While I know the project is will under way, if you need someone who's got some graphic design experience for any form of editorial work or help turning translations into proper English, or even a gopher I would be more than glad to do whatever it takes to help. I literally cannot express enough how fantastic it is that such a small and dedicated team is working so hard to make what I never thought would be, a reality.

Even if there is nothing I can do, I shall remain a constant encouragement (or nuisance) on here. Your work is not only worthy of such praise, but the very core of it serves as an inspiration to others like myself.

I'm actually translating the last but one text file (Espers' Mansion) in french and in the script, there is the full name of Lutz : "ミゼリス・ルツ・イーサ・ラナイ" (which would be pronounced "Mizerisu rutsu iisa ranai").

ミゼリス => Didn't find anything. Google advice to search "ミュゼリス".
イーサ => http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/イーサ
ラナイ => http://kotobank.jp/word/ラナイ / http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ラナイ島

Mizeris Lutz Ether Lanai ?

This is what Rebecca Capowski had to say about it in her character name notes for the Compendium:
Rebecca Capowski wrote:a PS comic that appeared in Sega of Japan's official fan magazine by Judy Totoya gives Lutz's full name as "Mizerisu Rutsu Iisa Ranai" (Mizerith Lutz Iysa Lanai, perhaps? Anyone's guess (or romanization), really).

I wouldn't really trust official companies romanisation, they often romanize names different ways depend of who is doing the romanization...

Lanai is pretty sure, it exist as the name of some Islands and I only found this version anyway.

Lutz could be Ruth but well, as everyone use Lutz anyway, would be useless to change even if it was the other.

Mizeris, I don't know. It looks like Dezoris but It could as well be Mizerith. The only thing I found is that Mizeris exist as a family name so it can be a reference to someone where other don't seem to officialy exist.

About Lisa, it's リサ (RISA) in japanese. エリサ (ERISA) is Elisa and エリザベス (ERIZABESU) is Elizabeth (though, for this one, there is also another version which is エリザベート (ERIZABETTO) which is the french pronunciation). Ether for イーサ(IISA) seems pretty legit too. Especially when Ethernet is イーサネット (IISANETTO)

For now, I'll leave "Mizéris Lutz Ether Lanai" and will let Tryphon deal with it :D (might change later depending of the discussion here).

By the way, I just finished the french translation of the "Espers Mansion", one file left and I'm done with the raw translation of the script.

There is no official romanisation of Lutz's full name. Rebecca Capowski was referring to a Japanese comic published in SPEC. The presented romanisation was her own guess.

Ether seems very awkward to me, much to consise, and besides Ether is only written like イーサ ("iisa") in "Ethernet" as far as I can tell. The ether of physical (and metaphysical) theories seems to more commonly be written エーテル (eeteru) and the Æther of mythology as アイテール (aiteeru).

Perhaps the creators meant to allude ether -- who knows? -- but to me it seems more likely that they just wanted something that sounded good... ;) Even if they did, it is not a clear-cut allusion, and as a player I would prefer to make connection myself, as the Japanese players had to.
