Great news, everyone! Sega of Europe has just announced that Phantasy Star Portable 2 for the PlayStation Portable will be released in Europe and the USA! It's currently set for an autumn 2010 release.

Sega weblog entry with press release

This was certainly unexpected, as the original Phantasy Star Portable didn't sell that well in the west.

Would you believe me I have never found those pizza hut things? I know they must be there, but I haven't seen them.

What I'd like to see would be more Sega tie ins. Having Alicia Melchiott join would be fun. But above all, cameos of classic PS characters. Streets of Rage would be fun as well.

I don't want to buy ads from an out side company. If sonic comes up and says buy my game that is one thing.

I'm not a fan of product placement either, but sadly, in this case, that is one of the reasons I was able to play PSp2. They inserted Pizza Hut items, Fate/Stay Night costumes and weapons, Evangelion costumes and weapons Fanta things (at least in real world advertisements) and a I think a Famitsu magazine shield.

Companies advertising their products helped fund the game, and quite honestly, the real content, as opposed to advertisements, is HUGE. There were no scenes with say, Emilia drinking a Fanta soda or Crouch and Yuuto eating a pizza. The game itself doesn't show that, unless you go and unlock an item somehow.

If what you don't wanna see is a Pizza Hut box, I at least haven't found it and believe me, I have played the game a lot. The items I actively obtained were the Evangelion and Fate costumes and weapons, but that was because I happen to be a fan of those series. There is a Famitsu shield I unlocked, didn't like and dropped off when I started a mission. Product placement is marginal.

In my opinion, this is a cool way to do product placement. Much better than having banner ads on a field or on loading screens. If you don't like them, just don't use them.
