Can i play PS 3 and 4 without a guide?

Hi all,
so i played through 1 mostly without a guide (however it was on the switch with maps which made it possible). I tried 2, but it seems almost impossible without using some kind of guide. Are 3 and 4 just as bad as 2, or can i get away with them playing blind?

Thanks!

You'll be fine. Just talk to everyone.

This came with PS2. You would be totally justified in using a guide.

I'm not really sure why Rolf looks like an old man and Nei has giant boobs in that picture.

Hey thanks. Im sure ill try to use a map during 3 and 4 also. The only thing that bugs me is that its impossible to tell what the spells do by their names, but I guess that was what instruction booklets were for.

Res heals one person, Gires heals everyone, Anti cures poison, Rever revives someone, Zan damages one row of enemies (only worth using in very limited circumstances), don't worry about the rest (PS3).

Gires is a better heal on a single person isnt it?
Sar is heal everyone. Or is that just in PS4?

Also Gi- means 2nd level and Na- 3rd level of the spell

That's PS4 (and PS2). PS3 is the oddball.

Two of friends of mine had PS2 European version. Only one of them got the hint book with the game.

A PDF version of the hint book is on segaretro.org at least.

I never used a guide with any of them, because I rented 2 lol.

But I would honestly say that on Phantasy Star 1 is tricky. The other games are pretty straight forward

I think it's the hardest one of the classic series. I died several times on my first completion. But I also refused to use any dungeon maps... But that way I roamed the dungeons much longer, thus grinding exp at the same time. So the further I got, the easier the gameplay got.

My dad, the first time he played, had Alis at level 22 before he realized he needed a Roadpass to continue.

A friend of myne did the same thing. He seemed convinced that Alis would gain a skill. And back then it wasn't out of the question that grinding would be needed to progress. Y's also in SMS needed a bit of grinding just to get to the first boss.

Hmm, how does this game work...maybe I'll go outside the town...oh, a Scorpion. This must be the battle screen. So, I guess I'll try attacking, and...oh, I'm dead. Hmm.

Never seen any other game where you just get owned at the very beginning of the game like that, with the possible exception of FF2j if you walk the wrong way out of town.
