Xbox 360 set for Wii-style motion control with Gametrak Freedom
I think Nintendo could raise a lawsuit on this...

Depends, a lot of patents have certain time limits before they expire to prevent "monopolies."

I doubt this will take off, with the amount of Wii consoles present in family rooms already. The game it is released with will be available on the Wii as well, so most won't bother.

Some people even do their own Nintendo --> Xbox mods.

Hmm, we'll see I suppose. Microsoft definitely markets North America better than Nintendo. And if they brag about low prices and interactive options (such as headsets and DVD play) then perhaps they could break into the market. If the 360 gets motion controls then Microsoft will have the ability to do what Nintendo does, except with more power.

They would also definitely have to make a free to use Live connection for the casual crowd (and lets face it, Xbox Live is just a money sucking ploy, they don't really need to charge a fee).

PS3 already has sixaxis motion control, xbox getting simular stuff would raise debate from fanboys about "copying" others ideas. Plus id personnaly prefer they didnt, i have a PS3 and wii, and dont want another reason for the opposite fanboys at school to brag about something i already pretty much have. I mean the about of stick i get from the xbox players for being a playstation fan is getting irritating...

This new controller will not be the primary controller, which means developers can't count on its presence, and hence won't develop as many games for it.

The SIXAXIS is less capable than the Wiimote because there's no point of reference. The Wiimote does with the sensor bar.

Yeah sixaxis can't point, but does it need to?

The PS3 and Xbox are for full scale campaign and long ONLINE multiplayer experience.

The wii is parts games with fewer having a main story, and online play is far less detailed.

(Yes SSBB is an exeption)

Wii MotionPlus comes out in less than two weeks, which will put it on par with this gadget. This thing won't even be released until 15 October.

I seriously thought that this gadget would never see it's release.
Even now, I'd still buy Wii rather...

Well...

Well, the PS3 controllers (SIXAXIS and Dualshock 3) are not meant for games like the Wii has. On that, Nintendo is not in competition with Sony. The PS3 controllers are used more as regular gamepads with extra features with some games . I'll give you a list of the ones I own:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Tilt functions for peeking out of trashcans (yes, you read right), shaking for deactivation of camouflage.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma: Shaking for strenghtening of special attacks (meh...)

Enchanted Arms: Shaking for... an idiot dance to replenish MP (goddamned imbecile idea...)

Flower: Tilt sensor for changing direction and acceleration sensor for changing direction quicker (Have I ever mentioned I'm in love with this game? No? WELL, I AM!!!)

So there you have it. The PS3 controllers are more like a steering wheel if you will. Personally, I'd like a good controller to come out that did interesting stuff like the Wii's, but the PS3 is aimed at a different public...
