Does that even matter? Yes, you'd have to be an idiot to build them near a fault line, but it obviously happened.<p>For one, we were studying plat tectonics in science. We were also studying Nuclear power at the time. Some one brought up a good point: don't those fault lines look a little close to the plants. And indeed they do. Not everything is done correctly, like you seem to think. Well, assuming if you watched all CNN, FOX and MSNBC's news reports every day, than you would probably see reports covering nuclear waste. <p>Don't deny the problem.

I do watch them, and I don't see any reports about nuclear waste.

Why all this ignorance, HuBBs? Honestly, what's so hard about shutting down a computer when you go to bed?

I learned that the nuclear waste (plutonium) is used to make nuclear weapons. Maybe that´s why no one talks about it on the media.

You have a better chance to develop CANCER from the radiation from the ROCKS and soil around you than from nuclear waste.<p>Hell, you can get cancer from sunlight touching your skin, Skin canser.<p>Cancer from second hand smoking..<p>Come on, either way you look at it, Most people will get cancer to begin with.<p>I doubt turning off our monitors or disposing of nuclear waste will cause anymore problems.<p>Sheesh..<br>

Preventing is better than curing. If nuclear waste starts to get piled up, we may be in trouble.<p>Khyron, we can get cancer from almost anything, but the chance is very small.

Believe it or not the real reason I am not worried about nuclear waste is mainly because as of a few years ago, we have actually started takening better care of getting rid of the waste, plus within a few good years we should have an even better source of clean power.<p> <blockquote>What about the people who it may be a problem for?</blockquote> <p>Can you tell me who is having a problem with it? This discussion has taken an interesting turn.<p>Here in Italy we have a ban on nuclear plants, and, interesting enough, we buy electric energy from our neighbor(sp?), like France which has a lot of nuclear plants, even relatively near the border with Italy....<p>About nuclear wastes, I'm no technician, but from what I know there are two main types, one is plutonium, which is reused as nuclear fuel in plutonium plants, the other is depleted uranium, and if you haven't lived in a cave for the last 5 years, you should know it's used to make the tip of missiles and bombs, since it adds a LOT of weight and adds to the penetrative power.<p>As I know a lot of fuss has been made about nuclear energy, and from my point of view is relatively safe, I advaise anyone to read some material about Chernobil to understand how diffucult is to make a nuclear reactor melt (yes, it's not badly written it's HARD to cause a meltdown), and he other nuclear incidents are so low that I consider nuclear power no less dangerous compared to other commonly used sources, think about fossil fuels and global warming.<p>I agree about saving power, wasting is always wrong.<p>I warn you Hubbs, a friend of mine left his PC on for a whole year downloading and recording what e downloaded (he turned it off every 3 days for an hour at max), and six months after he decided he had enough stuff, he lost, in this order, the micoprocessor (a PIII 800), the HD, graphic card, and power supply (!!).<br><p>[size=small][Edit by Goldark on [TIME]1081960756[/TIME]][/size]
