Well, let's hope they also do what they've been tossing around for an idea, and release Books I-V in the US as a compilation DVD-ROM... ^^;
Adol Christin lives.. yey. ^^;;;

Why does it have to be a compilation on DVD-rom?
Ys could make it to other systems
In fact, it would be awesome if it did.

By DVD-ROM, I meant PS2... not that it couldn't be done on Xbox or Gamecube, but Konami's support of both has been extremely sketchy as of late...

Fact is: the Y's Book I & II remakes are already out in Japan on the PS2. All Konami (or anyone) would have to do is translate.

What is the basic layout of Ys?

It's your basic action/rpg formula. I would say it a lot like Alundra, Landstalker, or Shining Wisdom... you know, action infused with rpg.

Except Ys has the fact that you RUN into monsters at the right angle to damage them.
It was good and all but I am one of the few who liked Ys 3 for the sidescrolling and beautiful paralax backgrounds.
Plus the Cd version had vocals! Demanicus was so evil sounding..

Another major accomplishment for Ys was that it was one of the first console RPG series to have a LOT of dialogue and story. (as opposed to Dragon Warrior/Quest, Final Fantasy, and even PS2) Even though the main character had no identity/personality what-so-ever, you could still get wrapped up in the story. This was also impressive as there is only the main character (no team/party) going through the whole series. It's a lot tougher to get a good story across when there's no one for the character to talk to along the way.
(back to original topic) The Ys 1 &2 for PS2 was sweet (I'm currently in the middle of playing it through for the second time). The music kinda sucks compared to the old PC Engine/Saturn versions, but what can you do? I have 6 for PC, but I must admit, I haven't had the hardrive space to play it yet. ~_~ As soon as the japanese version of 6 comes out, I will get it and let you all know how it is.
As for the classics, yeah, 3 was the exception for gameplay. But I don't think that was the reason for it's lack of following. (I, too liked the "Zelda2-like" gameplay) A lot of people (myself included) felt let down by 3 because the story wasn't as grand and involving.....that and the english version on PC engine had HORRIBLE voice acting. (1&2 used professional actors who've done stuff like Simpsons, Duckman, and Family Guy......3 used Janitors >_<) The one thing 3 did do was it was a GREAT set-up for 4. If you only play 1&2, then jump to 4, the story doesn't quite have the same impact.

I also read that they're bringing a remake of Wanderers From Y's over to PS2 in Japan. I wish they'd just bring 'em all over to the US.
