China preparing for war

Postby ThePeaGuy » Thu Mar 17, 2005 7:21 pm

I 've just noticed an interesting article when I was browsing the PSOW forums.
I won't go into too much detail on the subject since it is already explained in the article, but it seems that the Chinese are preparing an army to take back Taiwan that was formally under their communist rule.
Comments, anyone?

[size=small][Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1111087346[/TIME]][/size]

I just KNOW America will get into it for some stupid reason, and drag whatever allies they have left into it as well. So, this should be left to China to take care of, but the States will bungle it up and be further hated by the remainder of the world, including China. Because, as we know, if/when the US gets into it, all of thier enemies-and it's a long list- will join to topple the States, succesfully making us eat rotten poo-poo in some third-world country because we were too stupid to keep our noses out of it.*ends rant*
[size=small][Edit by Lassic's Chllun on [TIME]1111093790[/TIME]][/size]

[size=small][Edit by Lassic's Chllun on [TIME]1111093815[/TIME]][/size]

I feel sympathy for those in the portion of Taiwan that will be reconquered. The punishments that are likely to be inflicted moves me to sympathy.

The Bush Administration might get involved for the sake of more [S]oil profits[/S] world peace!

Oil profit probably wasn't the main reason for the invasion of Iraq. Sure, we could say that, but the U.S has many places from which to obtain oil... the U.S maintains good relationships with Saudi Arabia, a heavy oil producer, and other producers of oil. Also, now that drilling for oil in Alaska seems likely, it's too much to speculate that the U.S invaded Iraq for mere oil. That would be a waste of resources. If anything, Iraq's strategic military point (in the Middle East, neighbor of Iran) would be the thing of most value... and that would be the draw.

If we never entered any war..
The Korean War would have gone worse..
WW II and WW I
What if the US decided to stop the Chinese from conquering Taiwan? Decided to keep Taiwan non communistic?
I think that would be good..
But no, we'd get the same people complaining it was the wrong war. I bet they would complain that WW 1, WW 2 and Korean war was wrong also..

[size=small][Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1111099651[/TIME]][/size]

[SilentGrumbleToMyself]
...I knew I got into the wrong business I should've been an arms manufacturer...
[/SilentGrumbleToMyself]
Anyway, for the sake of Taiwan residents (the ones with the short end of the stick when all is said and done), I hope for the conflict to be as short as possible as, who are we trying to fool? There WILL be an armed conflict.
I prefer not to discuss politics in places like this but, China was better off worrying about their private space race with India if you ask me.

And the enevitability of that armed conflict is why I wonder whether someone should intervene or not. If the government of that portion of Taiwan is not put to death, which I'm reasonably sure will happen, they will be thrown in prison and harsh labour will be imposed on the people. Of course, that's mere speculation, but it's an educated speculation.

Great. Of course, I'm not sure if America can handle it right now what with the stuff in Iraq. Let's hope they stay out of that right now, best to leave it alone.

I highly doubt Bush would play around one of the largest armies in the world like he did in (mostly deffenseless) Afghanistan and Iraq.. Since the communist revolution, China has always been preparing themselves for a war against Taiwan, who they consider a "rebel province" instead of an independent state, so I don´t know why people are talking about it now.

JWL is an educated man that shares many of the same political views as I, Khyron. Our only big differences at the moment is he is a republican and I am independant.

Actually, he hasn't said a word, oddly enough.
But, I don't lend JWL much credibility... he's just gotten fanatical. I can't even take him seriously anymore. Anyone who disagrees with him or what his politicians say is automatically a "atheist communist liberal". I responded to a post in which he said that he was glad that the great Hunter S. Thompson was dead, and his main rebuttal was that I was a liberal. No, I'm not a liberal, but JWL likes to throw the word around so he can write people's grievances off. He doesn't even argue logically anymore.

JWL is easily pissed off. When he gets upset, he just goes over the top and says some things he really doesn't mean. Like calling people liberal when he knows they're not.
