[06 Sep 2007]-- Archive of Beyond Algo is up

Postby BenoitRen » Thu Sep 06, 2007 4:25 pm

Most of us have visited Beyond Algo, Neilast's Phantasy Star site, at least once. Recently, it has disappeared from its original hosting location. Now I'm making it available again on my webspace:

http://users.skynet.be/fa258499/beyondalgo/

I didn't just archive it, though. I rebuilt it from the ground up with standards compliant HTML and CSS.

Everything is there, minus the dream cast soundtrack and the Phantasy Star III script. I still have to work on those. I didn't change any of the content, minus the correction of grammar and spelling mistakes. I've tried to make it look the same as the original as best as I could.

While I could find most of the pages on the Wayback Machine, many images and several fanfics were lost. I found some on other sites like The Complete Guide to Phantasy Star III and an old version of Gazeta De Algol, but much was still missing. Then I got contacted by Orakio Rob about the resurrection of his website, Gazeta De Algol, and asked him, like several people, if he happened to have a back-up of Beyond Algo. Lucky for me, he did, and sent it to me. Many thanks to him.

Enjoy!

Well done, Benoit, my man, my homie, my comrade. A winner is you.

Give the man the praise he deserves, people. He worked bloody hard on this. :)

When original site at tripod was down, i damned myself for not having a local backup. I then discovered web archive but some files of the site were always missing. Well, here they're now, revised! (fanfic awards page seems to be down, web archive has it FYI)

Hail! Hail! Hail, man!

By the way, anyone knows what happened to Neilast???

note: Web archive URL http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://mem ... index.html

Yeah, I still have to do the fanfic awards thing as well. Not sure if I'm going to do those webring pages too, they seem like a separate site.

No one knows what happened to Neilast. She just vanished.

That's quite an accomplishment! You know, if you hadn't acted so fast, it probably would've been lost. There's definitely some interesting stuff on that site that new phans should look at. And I suppose it's an interesting remnant of the Phantasy Star community's past.

The Dream Soundtrack and Phannies pages are now up.

I remembered that there was one fanfic that I hadn't done yet, Contingency Plans. Will do so soon.

Keeping what you can alive, so that we may all delve upon it in the future. I commend ya, tis a shame I lack the building skills of the interweb.
Once I was Valis Warrior, and then the Redeemer. But now, I am back, with 7 years experience to my belt here.

Hello, Prototype #6. I don't recognize that username...

Do you by any chance recognize me? In the past I have used the names "Guardian of Algol," which was beginning to sound pompous to me so I changed to "Rygehl_Thornwind," and once I went by "Landale," but quickly realised that there was already someone else who's been using that name so I changed to "Mizehrith." I can't remember if that's the correct order, but I do know that Guardian of Algol was my first username.

Hi, sorry for replying so late.

I used to go by the handle Wing-0.

I dunno if anyone else knows me, haha.

As for your nick... My memory is kind of fuzzy, haha.
If there is some other old people that remembers me,
could you "raise a hand"?
