Favorite Video Game Music and Remixes

Postby Tanith » Fri Oct 15, 2010 1:36 pm

The title pretty much sums it up. Have any favorite VG music/remixes? Old and new. I'm always looking for good VG tunes.

Remixes I've saved at YouTube:

Sonic 2 - Sky Chase Zone: http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=Siscym9Qd5Y

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant Zone: http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=WQz0PvxGXY0

Marble Madness Level 2 - http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=I6wlzPl97Js

And my absolute fave remix ever:

Super Hang-On "Outride a Crisis" - http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=GiSZ3KTf8ig

I have others, but I'll start with these.

From PSIV? That is a good song. I think someone(s) made a really interesting metal remix of it. I'm just not into metal much. I'll see if I can find it.

I listened to it for a bit and it sucks ass.

The dance beat is where it's at.

Ooh, I'll have to find that one. I'm more of an electronica fan myself.

Truxton.

One of my favorite of the game's tunes starts at 2:45:

Here's the Turbografx-16 version. Meh. The game speed is better, but the music isn't nearly as good and my lord, those sound effects are godawful.

Ah! Here's the opening level theme. I love this song.

As soon as I get the hang of FL Studio, this is the first song I'll try remixing.

FL Studio was fun to play with. ^_^ Unfortunately, I couldn't get the hang of it due to lack of dedication, though it is very straight-forward. I've been told there are better programs out there for doin' music, but this is a simple one IMO.

That's why I chose the program, because I've never mixed music before, so I wanted to start out small. Though, for simple, there's still a ton to learn. Whew.

Another of my favorite VG tunes:

I don't have links, but remember those from memory. AWESOME.

Oh yeah, LOVE OC Remix. I go there frequently and am subscribed to several OCR artists on youtube. Speaking of, here are a few tracks from a great album of FFVII remixes:

I'll be sure to check out that megadriver site. :)

I know for sure my list would be too long. I'll leave you with some obscure ones:

This is a version of "Rydeen" by Yellow Magic Orchestra used in the video game Super Locomotive by Sega. It is likely that Sega did not ask before using this song. Pretty sweet 80's video game music though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X9egyCAMZw

"Rave On" from the Gamecube/PS2 game Killer 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xi-CxR-a2o

"Tunnel Scene" from the Japan-only Gameboy game called X. This is the version in Super Smash Bros. Brawl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16ufVy9DRe8

XG3 (Gamecube/PS2) had a phenomenal soundtrack done by The Ministry of Sound. Of course, Anything from F-Zero kicks ass: SNES = awesome old school blips and beeps, N64 = heavy guitar and bass lines, Gamecube = modern rock-techno.
PSO (GC) - NEO: HUcast LV 176
PSOBB Schthack (PC) - Redrian: HUcast LV 25
PSU (PC) - Neo: Male Cast Acrofighter LV 161 R.I.P.
PS0 (DS) - Neon: HUcaseal LV 82

What about favorite Anime Music?

Sadness and Sorrow has to be the best song ever without lyrics in it.

Gungirl 2 OST, from my all-time favorite VGM composer. Here's a few cherries. Check it out.

The game itself is pretty fun, but outmatched by the music.

And here's a sweet remix of Lava Reef Zone from Sonic & Knuckles I found recently.
