Dark Force of PSIII...how can it be here, how can it return?

Discuss anything related to the Phantasy Star series

PS3's position in the timeline is not put in peril in any way by remakes and such. PS4 makes sure to include elements from PS3 in several forms:

It is if you look how Dark Force's origins and true purpose are revealed in PSIV. Everything happened in 3 became standalone because PSIV's plot retconned this shit. They used the wreckage as a homage to PSIII but everything else in the story is inconsistent with 4.

Why would Dark Force go on a rampage and destroy each ship? Its purpose was to weaken the planetary seal by confounding both native and immigrant alike with promises of power and dominion.

Please tell me how it retconned, because I just can't see how. Giving it some thought, maybe each Dark Force wasn't completely dependent on The Profound, Dark Big Boobs. Maaaaybe, just maybe, each DF could act as an independent entity and live or something. However, once the short blonde kid people dislike for some reason killed the Big Boobs, then that was it. No more Dark Forces. Still, if one was still alive, it was sort of doomed to a life of solitude.

Regarding the seal, yeah. I agree on weakening the seal by corrupting and stuff. Still, by PSIV's era, there still were people of each race willing to risk their asses in order to beat it. As for the worldships, with the loss of most of the other ships, one could hypothesize that there were more than one DF loose, but that's farting a stinky one and smelling it (i.e: Really far out). In the DF on board the Alisa III, I could hypothesize that having been sealed by using Orakio's sword in that underwater temple one thousand years ago, roughly in PSIV's era, that DF could have been weakened by the loss of his Dark, Large Mammary Equipped Mother, and so took another millenium to resurface. Still, when he did (I've always seen DF as a male, heh), there was no more chance to respawn, or have another sibling sent, since there was no Dark Breasted Big Bad anymore.

Does that make sense?

I thought Dark Force "revived" every 1,000 years?

D-ELM-LARS: You defeated him? The great Dark Force? Ha, ha, ha, ha!
Ridiculous!

RUNE: Listen, Chaz. Since ancient times in Algo, there has been a cycle
where calamities occur every one thousand years. That's because
a personification of evil called Dark Force is resurrected every
thousand years! Up until now, every time it occurred, a
courageous person would defeat the evil to maintain peace.

EDIT - He is a he :P

The mellenium cycle was dependent on the existence of The Profound Darkness, which Dark Force was actually a part of. Without The Profound Darkness, the progenitor power source of the dark creatures, there can be no more Dark Force or any of its followers/spawns. This was established in PSIV.

In PSIII, Dark Force was made out to be some Satan-like figure who wants to antagonise other life forms for the hell of it. This was retconned in PSIV when Le Roof explains that Dark Force exists to release The Profound Darkness, its complete form, from the solar system prison.

None of us can declare PS3 isn't canon.
It's how you look at Dark Force in general that makes the conflict happen.
I believe that PSIV still gives room for PS3.
The Dark Force "spawn" are the last of their kind and therefore can only create chaos without purpose, they like the profound darkness and Dark Force must rest their energy every thousand years or so.
It just so happens that now, their mission of existence is meaningless, no matter how much negative energy they create... The Profound Darkness is gone; this doesn't mean that they still do not try, it is therefore their instinct.

So no Retcon here, no homage.
The Dark Forces in PS 3 are very different to the Dark Force in PS 1 and 2 and 4.

Dark Force is a being of pure evil. Sure, it was birthed from the Profound Darkness in order to free it, but that doesn't deny its nature as a being that feeds on suffering.

I don't need to declare it. It's evident in the fact that PSIV is said to be the final game in the series ending the ps narrative. It's officially tieing up loose ends on Algo. Originally PSIV was going to continue the voyage from where PSIII left off, but that idea was thrown out of the window, so they retconned the 3rd with their decided psiv storyline.

What did PSIV retcon, exactly? If it's only about Dark Force's line about returning in 1000 years, that doesn't retcon the entire game.

Plus, PSIV references PSIII. Remember the wreckage? How about Wren, who looks like a twin of PSIII's Wren?

It should be noted that you aren't responding to any counter points, and instead repeat your own argument.

PS IV never states "The Alisa III did not take off and PS3 never happened".
It easily can and does co-exist, PS3 has no effect on PS4's storyline what so ever, so it had no need to be retconned.

You need to show reference to your argument with a segment from the game that clearly shows PS3 was retconned, otherwise it's still official.

That would be the same as me trying to claim PSO is connected to PS3.
It has similarities but isn't officially stated to be a continuation what so ever.

Until the creators of PS say "PS3 doesn't count as canon".... It is Canon.
That includes the idea of "well sega ages were only making three games; Gen1, Gen2 and Gen 3" yeah but that doesn't mean anything, they are remakes and Gen 3 was never made so does that mean we Retcon PS4 as well.

Canon =

Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star 3
Phantasy Star 4

No need for anymore explanation.
