Drawing Nei

Postby Mono » Thu Oct 09, 2008 3:26 am

I have been practicing a lot of drawing, since I´m gonna start another animation course (it says its "advanced") and I want to get ready. I don´t want to waste time finding out how to draw what I want to animate during the course, so I can have enough time to make some quality stuff.

Anyway, I choosed Nei to practice because she wears only a swimsuit, boots and sleeves, which makes her body pretty exposed. It´s easier to work out angles, movement, perspective. Of course, I didn´t copy the original design, I have given to her my own style. And although it still have a lot of flaws, I consider that I have improved quite a lot in the last weeks. Please, take a look and tell what you think:

Wow, these are really good! I wish I could draw that well...
I wonder what people will see in the final days?

They ARE quite good. I'd like to offer some critical advice, but for now all I can really offer is learning to get the line right in fewer strokes.

I won't bullsh*t you, it shows that it's amature level, but I really think you have a great deal of potential.

I like the sketches best. What paper is that? How is it to draw on?

Thanks, that's quite a hard thing for me to do, because the joints of my fists aren´t very good (I started walking when I was 6 months old, so I kinda slkipped a lot of early development of my hands... I can push a small truck with my arms, but find it hard to open a can :^P). When I finalize the drawings, on a light table, then I can improve it a bit, though I still find it difficult enough to not try it with ink, since I will most likely screw up the work and waste another leaf of paper. But that´s my objective, and I will work on it.

It´s some weird yellowish paper my dad found in his office, like, 20 years ago. It´s not really suited for fine sketching, though :^P

Looks like she was trying to hold something back or push something out there for a second.

The best thing is that I used a friend in bikini as a model to this one :^P

And with one beautiful sketch, this Nei has become the one that will appear when I think of her appearance and describe her in writing. Great work!

I faved this a while back on dA; it's one of my favorite piece of Nei fanart. Her pose is cute, and it's nice that you included scenery. Excellent job. :)

I've always kind of liked your drawings and such Mono. You're really quite good at sketching as well. :) You'll need to put more of your stuff up here.
