SEGA servers breached - LulzSec to rescue?

Postby Zucca » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:45 am

LulzSec's tweet

About 1.3 million users' information was stolen. Apparently the attackers didn't get any credit card information.

What's with all the hacking of game-related things lately? Or maybe I haven't really noticed until now. =P

It's the way hackers work. If one group finds a weakness in a company server, other groups tend to get curious and try to see if there are similar weaknesses in other systems of the same type. A lot of them really are in for the lulz. :D

At least Nintendo and Microsoft haven't gotten hacked yet. That would be a major league disaster.

Don't jinx it, BS. Microsoft almost lost the domain "microsoft.com" once because they forgot to pay the internet bill.

I'd love to see these morons get cancer for the lulz.

I see all of this idiocy in a more positive light, actually. The information was insecure thanks to negligence because "They won't do anything" or "They don't know how". After this mess, those companies should be more careful they don't get their asses handed over to them and a major embarrassment Sony Style.

Besides, I got lots of free games thanks to this outage... I'm not complaining. Sure, I like to play online to some extent, but my gaming is more single player oriented... I'm in an apparent minority.

That is the very ethos of gray-hat hackers. I personally wouldn't trust them alone, but they serve as a lesson in humility for bigwigs who think that they don't need to invest in security probes.
