I'll update this thread, instead of Tryphon, to give some news (as I'm the french translator who is working with him).

The actual beta-version (not released in public) now handle most of the game texts (SLPM included), here's a little list of what algoring now do :

- Extract/Insert all the texts from the "EVENT.DAT" (the public version had sometimes bugs when the texts where extracted/inserted. I translated, for now, 25% of the main text in french and didn't spotted a single bug in extraction/insertion with the last version. "EVENT.DAT" is the file where the dialog texts are). It also handle auto-formating of the texts, of course.

- The game now display 4 lines in the dialogs windows, instead of 3 lines in the original.

- The game now use icons for the elements (Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind) instead of names in the ACM and equip menus (to spare some room for the texts in those menus as you can only use one line where those names appear). Greyscale icons for now, but Tryphon is actually working to be able to use colored ones.

- Monsters names now use a VWF, so it looks better and you can put longer names.

- And of course, the texts strings of the SLPM (Monsters names are some of them) are handled. The SLPM has been tested on a PS2 and after a lot of work and ~30 versions of the SLPM, we can confirm that, for now, the game is now fully working on a PS2 (the first version was crashing at the title screen). We got a lot of crash (I do the beta-test on PS2 as Thrypon don't have one) but Tryphon managed to fix all the ones I found yet (the last one was a saving crash, and the worst one was a problem where your memory card was formated when you were using the savestate feature, what a nasty bug ). It seemed very important, to me, to allow people to play this game on a real PS2 so I literally bugged Tryphon until he managed to make it work (luckily, I'm not a programmer but I had seen this problem before on some PS1/PSP games and it was in fact the same problem, Sony processors require routines datas to be aligned. Once Tryphon found how to fix that, it was pretty easy, though long, to fix all those crashs).

Next (final) version of algoring (which will be released in public, I think) will handle :

- Non-breaking space (right now, using the ~ characters but the game don't handle them yet).
- Probably more fixes for the PS2 if we find some new crashs.
- New features if we need some new ones later.
- An all-in-one automatic package which should do everything needed automatically.

And I heard that once PSGEN 2 will be fully hacked, Tryphon want to go back and fully hack PSGEN1 (so I suppose Kyence will maybe make a new version of this patch when the full hack of PSGEN 1 will be over, featuring VWF font and such).

I also asked Tryphon if he can do a program to be able to manually format the text (something like "TheCheat" for the ones who know this program, it can be found on romhacking.net), which would display the text like in the game and able to manually format it, so if it's done, I think it'll be probably be released in public too, but it might take a while as he said he would do the full hack of PSGEN 1 before.

And, of course, Kyence english translated version will also feature all those things

(I hope I didn't do too much spelling errors in this long message, it's near 4:30am here )

The first set looks like the icons from Phantasy Star Universe. I don't recognise the rest.

Greetings, I need help.
Could someone upload me one 'temp/00-00000800.DAT' file?

I used algoring like this:
Code: Select all
d:/algoring/algoring.py extract d:/algoring/EVENT.DAT

Then got this error:

Ah, just as a note: If I create a blank txt file and rename it to '00-00000800.DAT' then the tool works fine, but the 'temp/00-00000800.DAT' would still be missing.

If my memory is correct, there is only a "blank" entry at x800; it only has the basic headers but no text or graphics within it, serving as a placeholder. Tryphon has a way to ignore that spot.

Friend, are you planning to translate the game as well? Which language? I ask because I am working on the English translation and if you are working on one as well, we could combine forces.

You can ignore file 00 with the flag '-i 00'. For an unknow reason, this file provides sometimes problems, but you can ignore it safely, it doesn't contain any dialog. I've (almost) made another, more complete but heavier, version of algoring, which uses CUE tools to decompress, rather than OrakioRob's ones, and this problem doesn't occur anymore.

If you plan to translate PSGEN2 in any language, please tell us here, so you can find some help with others people translating (Kyence is translating in English, Hiei- in French, and OrakioRob plans to translate in Portuguese / Brazilian) and so I can provide support for various hacking issues.

GATTAI DA!!- or so I'd like to say.
Oh, no no, it's not like this. I just started studying japanese like 2 months ago, then I thought "Well, I sure could make a good use of a challenge. It sucks if it's going too slow", so it's going to be my first time (playing a jap game). Then I set myself towards the internet. Just to find that text hookers for the ps2 don't exist yet and after some time I accidentally found this thread.
Long story short: As I'm now, I couldn't help even if I wanted, sorry.
