| Who was Zio (Spoilers. attention)? |
| A intresting discusion about who Zio is (his past) catch my attention, here you are: --------------------- It's been a topic of debate among a number of the PS scholars that I know... it's all about Zio. I'm going to remain neutral on this one, since I don't have a preferred theory on it all, but here we go. Do you think Zio is just another Palman that the Dark Falz got a hold of? Just another joe-nobody that somehow fell across what appeared to be a promising occupation in being the perpetual object of resonance through which the deeds and desires of Dark Falz, and namely the Profound Darkness are conducted? Perhaps a tragic unification with them? Or do you think he was an Esper gone bad? A rival of Rune's? Some way or another perhaps, corrupted by jealousy or lack of willpower? Or was he created by Dark Falz and/or the Profound Darkness as a medium through which its desires were carried? Similar to Seth, perhaps, but instead of actually being the Dark Falz, more like Juza in that respect, whereas he was actually a monster assuming human guise (if you look at the original art of Zio -- not the colored one, a black and white image out of the compendium gallery on Phantasy Star Collection -- he has his gauntlet off, and his hand is thin and gnarled not unlike the body of Dark Falz itself)? --------------------- i think that Zio was just a power-hungry palman that got corrupted by the Great Collapse. He thought the palmans were to blame for killing off mother brain and destroying Palma. Dark Force Appealed to him and he joined the dark side that is of course he died. --------------------- My theory? Zio is really Rune's older brother. He was nominated as the 5th Lutz, but since the 2 were very close they were commonly both considered "co-Lutzes." However, one time when they were on Motavia for some reason or the other, they ran into whoever was Dark Force's leading man at the time. He and Zio, being the more powerful of the brothers, squared off, Zio ended up victorious, but not before taking a direct hit from a Black Wave. Dying, Zio tells his brother to abandon him. Rune runs off, gets back to EsperMansion, tells what happened, and is then crowned the 5th Lutz in Zio's place. However, instead of dying from the Black Wave, Zio manages to survive it, but is corrupted as the price. His mind, body, and soul mutate as a result, and become the evil Zio we all know. Yes, it's completely unfounded without any facts in the game to support it, but I like it anyway. Nyah. --------------------- Personally I think he was an ordinary Palman. I have two theories, basically. One: he was a more or less self-taught mage, one of the very few on Mota. Without guidance or reliable material, he stumbled across some long-forgotten pocket of darkness, and was drawn in by Dark Force. Two: he was an ordinary person, but wanted power. DF promised to give him power. Simple as that. Anyway, his hand was probably "twisted" when he fell under DF's power. Of course, I don't have any proof, but whatever... ;P --------------------- he was probably someone with power, who wanted more. Possibly an esper, but I don't believe so. He may have had some magical ability seperately, and he may have some link to Leshic. Nonetheless, he was a mage of some sort who decided to gain more power, and soon realized that the Profound Darkness was the one to do it. He then appealed to the Profound Darkness, who corrupted him and made him the bastard he is now. As for the brother theory, I highly doubt it, as Rune probably would have shown more emotion over the battle, but it is possible. --------------------- I think he was abused as a child, and spent much of his teenage years attempting to develop great power to do away with his rivals. Then Dark Force appeared to him, and Zio began his practice in the Algo version of witchcraft. He used his newfound power and oration skills to obtain ever more followers, some of which were even willing to fight for him. He was revered as a god by those easily corrupted, and in turn, revered Dark Force as the one who gave him his power. --------------------- He's just another Palman (parman) resident of motavia, with some technical ability, when he was subverted by the Dark Force (Dark Falz = Dark Farz = Dark Farce = Dark Force = HORRIBLE JAP TRANSLATION AGAIN). This nets him magic usage. Other than Zio, Rune, and Kyra, the only ones to be able to use magic are enemies directly related to Dark Force, as you only fight them after you learn of it (i.e. the three witches, and enemies in the air castle). But a few inconsistencies exist, like how the towns in Rykros (the one wiht the penguins) can sell magic items like flaeli swords. He pretends to be a do-gooder though, because he wouldn't get the fanatical following without the guise of giving people a better life. This creates his religion and Kadary. Other than that, he's a normal parman-NOT an esper. All espers have either green, yellow, or red hair. Zio is black (he may dye it though). --------------------- Zio was probably from Dezolis, considering the fact that possed magic abilities (Esper?), and one of his lackies (the one at Ledea Tower) was not from Motavia. As for how he became bad, he probably was contacted by Dark Force, most likely at Gaurbek Tower (the game never said when Zio appeared, so it is a possibility) which would account for why he can use the Black Energy Wave, and as we've seen, he can teleport, so that's probably how he got to Motavia knowing that if he needed to weaken the seal, destroying Motavia was his best bet and Dark Force was probably aware that Aero Prism was on Motavia so if the planet was destroyed, Rykros would remain hidden and not be able to interfere. --------------------- Have any ideas?
