It's well worth having if you own a Sega Genesis! Thanks to Voltron's great Walkthrough, which helped me write this. It's been quite a while since I've played it. Also thanks to the Phantasy Star Pages for the spell, Dual Tech, and special skill info. You can access a sound test by pressing B on the "Start/Continue/Delete" screen. The translation is REALLY bad on this screen. You see stuff like 'Ngangbius Temple' (as opposed to 'Gumbious Temple') and 'Ryucross'(Rykros is the correct spelling). The last one, Pao Pao, is from another Genesis game called Fantasy Zone (a VERY wierd game). My favorites are: "Cybernetic Carnival" and "PS1 Dungeon Arrange 2." Macros You can set up "Macros" which will enable you to use moves in order, and thus get off combination attacks and set up barriers easily. These will prove useful in major battles. Character Info (thanks to Renato (renator@netwave.com.b) for the missing spell and tech info) Chaz Ashley- You play as him throughout the game. He learns healing techniques and some powerful sword skills. It's best to equip him with a sword instead of two knives. Swords have more attack power than two knives and you gain some Defense from them as well. His Nathu spell is one of the best in the game. Chaz's Spells Res Learned at: Chaz starts with this spell. Rika- A Numan that was created by the computer named Seed. She has some good healing techniques, and is a pretty good fighter as well. She uses mostly spells that raise defense and restore HP. Her Medic Power is very useful. It revives any fallen teammates and restores HP to everyone. Being an Android, normal healing spells and items won't work, so she has to use her special skill Recover to gain back HP. She gains back 1 HP with every step she takes, and will be revived with 1 HP after a battle, should she be defeated. Demi's Skills Recover Learned at: Demi starts with this skill. Effect: Restores' Demi's HP. Stasis Beam Learned at: Demi starts with this skill. Effect: Freezes mechanical enemies temporarily. Spark Learned at: Demi starts with this skill. Effect: Instantly destroys mechanical enemies. Barrier Learned at: Demi starts with this skill. Effect: Raises all allies' resistance to magic. Medic Power Learned at: Demi starts with this skill. Effect: Revives and restores some HP to all allies. Phononmezer Learned at: Motavian Plate Center Effect: Strong shockwave attack on all enemies. Wren- An android that will stay with you through the rest of the game after he joins your team. His defense and attack power are very high, so put him in the front of your line. He learns some useful attack skills as well. Like Demi, he must restore HP to himself using his special skill Recover. He also will recover with 1 HP after a battle. A single Res spell can restore over 70 HP! Among other things, he can restore a character's TP, and even heal Androids! Unfortunately, you don't have him on your team for very long. (Note: I created the decriptions and primary weapon names myself). Land Rover SP: 740 Terrain Type: Land, Quicksand Description: A heavily-armored car that can cross even the most rugged terrain easily. Basic Weapon: Energy Beam Cannon Special Skills Cluster- Fires small bursts of energy at all enemies, doing light damage. (8x) Gravitn- A huge gravity well engulfs all enemies, doing heavy damage. (4x) Ice Digger SP: 960 Terrain Type: Land, Ice Description: A car with drills attached to the front which are specifically designed to bore through ice. This is useful for getting through the huge walls of ice on Dezolis. Basic Weapon: Twin Lasers Special Skills Napalm- A wave of fire spreads across the ground, inflicting light damage on all enemies. (8x) N-Spher- Creates a huge gravity well powerful enough to destroy all the enemies at once. (4x) Hydrofoil SP: 680 Terrain Type: Land, Water Description: A lightly-armored hovercraft that moves very quickly. It is ideal for traveling across water. It is also heavily armed. Basic Weapon: Photon Bursts TH Grid- Several pillars of energy erupt from the ground, doing moderate damage to all enemies. (8x) X Burst- A huge blast of energy erupts, inflicting heavy damage on all enemies. (2x) Now then... the walkthrough! (Warning! Spoilers ahead! Use only if you're stuck!) You play as Chaz and start out in the town of Aiedo. You and Alys leave town shortly on your first mission as a Hunter, to the town of Piata and the Motavia academy. After the short intro, you end up seperated from Alys. Just walk a little up and to the left and you'll find her again. Wow, that was hard, wasn't it? Go to the top floor of the academy and talk to the Principal, and he'll tell you about the monster infestation in the basement, which he hired you to stop. He seems to be hiding something, doesn't he? Go downstairs again and talk to the dude blocking the stairs going down to the basement. He'll introduce himself as Hahn, and accompany you to the basement. Here you'll fight your first monsters. They're easy, so you shouldn't have to worry very much. You'll find a couple of treasure chests down here, which contain Monomates and other items that heal your teammates. Once you reach the bottom of the basement, you'll meet the first boss character, Igglanova. Igglanova is pretty easy to beat. Have Hahn use Vision and Alys use Saner, then attack every turn until you win. Have Hahn attack the monsters that Iggy creates, and have Chaz and Alys attack Iggy. Have Alys use her Vortex skill, it does a good amount of damage. Once you win, go back and talk to the Principal. The Principal will tell you about Birth Valley being the place where the monsters were created, and how Prof. Holt went there to investigate, but his team had not returned yet. He tried to send a search party, but a man named Zio stopped him from doing so. Hahn will want to go to Birth Valley, and Alys agrees to accompany him- for a price. Now head northeast from Piata to the town of Mile near the quicksand. There's a black fort on the other side of the sand, but I'll explain that later. Here, you can buy better weapons and armor, and stock up on items. From there, head east to Zema. This is the town where Birth Valley is located. Head into the cave at the north end of town. There's a couple treasures in here that are worth getting, because they contain some useful items. At the end of the tunnel, you'll find Prof. Holt and his assistants, turned to stone. Alys tells Hahn about a medicine that can remove the stone spell. The Alshline (Called "Alsulin" in the first PS, apparently the translators goofed) can be found in a town to the south called Molcum. Once you get there, you'll find the town completely destroyed. Talk to the man in the middle of town, and Alys will recognize him as Rune. Rune will tell you that Zio destroyed the village. Rune joins your team and sugguests that you head north to Tonoe, where there is Alshline. Stop by Krup if you like, but don't bother buying any armor yet. Instead, stock up on items for the next area you go to. Head north from Krup to a cave that is sealed off by a big pile of boulders. Rune will blow them away with a Flaeli technique. Make your way through the cave (Rune's magic is VERY powerful!), and eventually you'll reach Tonoe. Since Rune will be leaving your team shortly, you may want to unequip his gear and sell it. Trust me, you'll need the money. Buy weapons and armor for your other team members (go for the Titanium stuff, it's very good!). Then head to the tent at the north end of town and talk to Grandfather Dorin. Ask him about Alys' measurements (heehee), and then a sequence will start where Rune leaves your team and Gryz, a Motavian warrior, joins. At this point, head back to the cave that brought you here and save up money until you have enough to buy everyone some good armor and weapons. Then head to the tent behind Grandfather Dorin's, and Gryz will open the door to the basement, where the Alshline is. Make sure you're at about Level 9 before going down here, the enemies are very dangerous. Make your way down to the bottom floor, and use healing techniques frequently. Hahn's Gelun spell will come in handy against the tougher enemies. Once you reach the bottom, you'll find a door that's rusted shut. Unfortunately, Gryz won't be able to pry open this one. You'll have to walk all the way around. You'll find two treasure chests. One with an Escapipe, and one with the Alshline. Use the Escapipe so you can escape the basement quickly, then heal up at the inn and go back to Zema (buy a Telepipe and you won't have to walk!). Go back to Birth Valley and use the Alshline on Prof. Holt. You'll enter a sequence where you cure everyone in the town, and then think about what to do next. Not soon after, an Igglanova attacks the town. Remember how easy it was the first time? Now it's even easier. Just beat the hell out of it with your best attacks. It should go down before it poses much of a threat. You'll find out that Prof. Holt went back to Birth Valley and hasn't returned yet. After Alys cheats Hahn out of the last of his money, go to Birth Valley. Here you'll meet some new enemies. They can be pretty dangerous, so you may want to spend some time leveling up. When you're ready, proceed farther into the plant. Be sure to pick up every treasure, you can't come back into this dungeon. At the end of the path, you'll meet Prof. Holt, who was saved from the monsters by Rika (who is at Level 1, suprisingly). Rika will lead you into the back room to meet "Seed", her creator. It turns out Seed is a computer that's in charge of maintaining Motavia's climate. But recently, he has lost control because Nurvus, the master computer, has been sending strange signals. Thus the monster breeding in Birth Valley is out of control. He speaks of an android named Demi who may be able to stop Nurvus. But she has been captured by Zio (boy, he's pissing off everyone, isn't he?). So you decide to go to Zio's fort to free Demi and stop this whole mess. Rika joins you. As soon as you step outside, Seed self-destructs to prevent any more monsters from being created. From here, leave Zema and head north across the bridge that used to be broken. It's fixed up now so that you can cross. You can stop by Nalya if you like, but there's not much to see there. Go north of Nalya to find a wrecked sattelite. There's some tough enemies inside, but it's a good place to level up. Once you reach the end, Rika will access the computer and explain that this was one of the sattelites that escaped Parma before it exploded (back in Phantasy Star II). A great deal of them were destroyed by Dark Force, but some escaped to another galaxy (some of the events in Phantasy Star III). Not much else to see here, so head west to Aiedo, where you started the game. Don't bother with the inn, because you can rest up at Chaz and Alys' house for free (it's near the top left of the residential area). Go to the weapon shop by the Hunter's guild (north of the BIG store), for the best armor and weapons. You'll need a lot of money, so go back outside and fight if you don't have enough. The cave north of Aiedo is a good place to earn cash (wait for two blue monsters to fuse into a Meta Slug, then kill the Meta Slug for a lot of exp. and meseta!). Once you're ready, go through the cave north of Aiedo and you'll end up on the other side of the sand near Mile. There's a town nearby called Kadary, where apparently Zio has formed his own cult. The people of the cult seem a little out of it (like the dude on the sidewalk). There's no weapon or armor shops, but buy some Dimates at the Item shop. Then head south to Zio's fort. When you enter, you'll notice some stairs leading down that are blocked off by a shield. You won't be able to go in there yet, so don't try. Instead, go behind the stairway to stairs leading up. Go up the left stairs. You can fall down the holes behind the stairs on this floor to get some good items, but you'll have to leave and come back in, because the only way out of the rooms you fall into lead outside. You can also go through the "tunnels" to get some items. Go through the tunnel on the right end of the floor to meet Juza, who apparently works for Zio. Juza isn't very hard, but he has some powerful moves. Have Rika use Deban, Alys use Saner, and Hahn use Vision in the first round. Then just use your best attacks and heal with Dimates and Gires whenever you need to, especially after he uses Force Flash, which hits everyone for 50-60 damage. When you defeat him, a staircase will appear. Head upstairs. You'll meet Demi on the top floor. She'll tell you that Zio has built his fortress on top of Nurvus, and thus cannot be accessed because of the barrier. Zio appears and you begin a battle. He puts up a barrier the first round that will prevent him from taking damage (special moves only do 1 damage). After using his Nightmare spell (and summoning the ugly guy), he'll cast a Black Energy Wave on Chaz, but Alys will take the hit instead. She will be critically injured, and you'll be forced to retreat to Krup. Alys will tell you that Rune may know a way to stop Zio. Gryz recalls that he and Grandfather Dorin were going to the Ladea Tower, across a sea of quicksand. Demi will tell you about the Land Rover, which is south of Krup. Hahn will stay with Alys, and Demi will join your party. Head south of Krup and a secret base will appear from the ground. Enter the base and take the elevator down. Step on the circle to be completely healed. Get the Control Key from the box and then go to the next room to get the Land Rover. It will be waiting outside. Vehicle Controls A,B,C- Get off (can only get off on terrain you can walk on) + Pad- Move To get back in a vehicle, select it from the Item menu. Vehicle Battles Attack- use the primary weapon. Spcl- Use a special attack. These differ depending on the vehicle. Run- Escape from battle. May not always work. Note: SP are automatically restored after a battle. SP are like HP for your characters. Run out and it's Game Over. Head north of Krup, and when you reach the cave that led to Tonoe, head East. Across the quicksand is a town called Monsen. You may want to stop by to stock up on items. You can also go north of Monsen to the Plate Control to stop the earthquakes. It's optional, but worth doing. You can find some better gear for Demi and even a new technique, Phononmezer (very powerful!). Head east of Monsen, then head south across the Quicksand to the town of Termi. Stock up on better armor. If you look in the park at the north end of town, you'll notice a statue of Alys and Myau from the original Phantasy Star. From there, head Southwest to the Ladea tower. On the third floor of the tower, you'll meet Rune. He'll explain that he came to the tower looking for the Psycho-Wand, which is capable of destroying Zio's magic barrier. Chaz will ask him to join the party. Once you reach the top floor of the tower, a beastie named Gy-Languiah (or something like that) will try to stop you. He works for Zio, obviously. He is pretty easy to beat. Just cast Saner and Deban with Rika, and Barrier with Demi. Have the others attack with their best moves (Rune should use Giwat, it does a lot of damage on him. You can also have Chaz use Zan to do a Blizzard double tech). After he is defeated, you will return to Krup, where Alys is finally overcome by the evil energy and she dies. After the lengthy cinema scene, return to Zio's fort. Once you're there, go to that barrier you came across earlier. Rune will use the Psycho Wand to disable the barrier. Go down into Nurvus. The enemies down here can be sort of dangerous, but Rune's Hewn and Flaeli should do adequate damage. Pick up all the treasure you find on the way. It will come in handy for the upcoming battle. You should set up two Macros to prepare for the battle with Zio. Rune should use the Psycho Wand (go under the item menu and select "Psycho Wand.") first. Then have Demi use Barrier, Rika use Saner, Gryz use War Cry, and Chaz use Crosscut. This will disable Zio's barrier). The second Macro should have Demi use Phononmezer, Rika use Deban, Gryz attack, Chaz use Crosscut, and Rune use Giwat or Gifoi. Zio uses some nasty attacks, but after a lengthy battle, you should be able to defeat him (strange that his Black Energy Wave doesn't affect you nearly as badly as it did Alys). Demi will access the Nurvus system and shut everything down. She will have to stay behind to reconfigure each system individually, and thus must leave your group. Demi will tell you to go to Zelan, and a spaceport will appear near Kadary. At this spaceport, you'll find a couple circular tiles that will heal you when you step on them, and a small spacecraft that will allow you to go to Zelan. Once you arrive, go upstairs, collect the treasure chests, and then talk to Wren, the maintainer of the Sattelite. He will explain that Zelan is not responsible for the recent problems, but rather another sattelite called Kuran. He is unable to make contact with Kuran, and so he doesn't have any idea what's going on either. He will accompany you to Kuran to stop the problems. He'll also explain that Kuran is in Stealth mode, meaning it can't be detected on your ship's radar. Get the Stealth-canceller from one of the boxes on the top floor and continue to Kuran. On the way there, Wren will detect a problem in the engine room. Seems a beastie got on board and is screwing around with the engine. After a short battle, the ship will be damaged, and you will be forced to crash land on Dezolis, the ice planet. You'll land on a Dezolian temple, much to the priests' suprise. One of them is named Raja, and he'll tell you about a second ship on this planet. He'll accompany you to go and get it. (Strange, that tiny little ship suddenly became HUGE as soon as you entered Dezolis' orbit). When you leave the temple, there will be a huge snowstorm. Raja will tell you that he believes the Garuberk tower is causing this massive snowstorm. Head north to Ryuon, and tlak to the Bartender. Ask him about the ship, and he'll tell you that the tomb in Tyler (The name sound familiar? It should if you're a fan of the Phantasy Star series) is rumored to hold the key to the spaceship. Head farther north to Tyler, and stock up on new weapons and armor. After that, check the tomb at the south end of town to open a secret stairway. Follow the passage to find the ship, called the Landale (Familiar? Think back to Termi, with the statue...). A spaceport will pop out of the ground near Tyler. Heal at one of the circles, then take off for Kuran. Once you get here, look around for more treasure chests. You can find better armor for Wren, as well as a special skill called Hyper Jammer, which isn't all that useful but still worth picking up. You'll be attacked by a bunch of robotic enemies. When you reach the core of the base, Rune recognizes Dark Force, the big beastie that Zio was obsessed with. Before you fight him (don't go forward after Rika says "what's that in the shadows?" or something like that), heal up to the max, and set up a Macro. Have Wren use Barrier, Rika use Saner (and Deban the next round, as always), Raja use St. Fire, Chaz use Crosscut or Githu, and Rune use Efess (if you have it). When you're actually fighting, have Wren use Flare and Recover as needed, have Rika heal and Doubleslash if no one needs it, Rune should use Efess or Gifoi, Chaz should use Crosscut, and Raja should use St. Fire and then heal. His superior healing skills will be very useful against DF. Once you defeat Dark Force, Chaz will ask how he knew about Dark Force. Rune won't tell you (not yet, anyway). Wren will fix the climate control systems, then head back to Zelan to finish repairing it. But despite all this, the snowstorm on Dezolis continues. Raja tells you about that it's the Garuberk tower behind the whole thing, but Wren decides to check the climate control on Dezolis. Your party decides to investigate, and Wren loads the Ice Digger onto the Landale to make transportation around Dezolis much easier (you can dig through the big walls of ice). Dig through the wall of ice to the east and you'll arrive at Zosa, where you can buy magic weapons (use them under the item menu and they cast spells. Thunderclaws will be useful later, so buy some of those). From there, head north to the climate control. You'll fight a wizard guy inside the base, who apparently works for Dark Force as well. Take him out and examine the control console. It seems to be functioning as well. Raja will tell you that the Garuberk Tower was behind it (he tends to get ignored). Before you leave the base, be sure to pick up the Pulse Vulcan, a weapon for Wren that hits every enemy. If you wish, you can head northwest of Zosa to a small cave. At the end of the cave you'll meet Myau from PS1, who will give you the Silver Tusk. Equip it on Rika. Head back to Zosa, then go southeast to Reshel. This town's been completely trashed by a big gang of zombies (I didn't know Resident Evil got their idea from PS4, heh...). There's not much to see here, so head further southeast to Meese, where there's a wierd sickness going around, apparently caused by evil energy. The Espers have arrived to help. You'll learn that the sickness began when the Garuberk Tower appeared. Suddenly, Raja will collapse. Apparently he's been hit by the evil energy as well. Raja will sense that the Garuberk Tower is nearby. One of the Espers rushes in and explains that an esper named Kyra left for the Garuberk tower alone. He'll also explain that there's a forest of living trees surrounding the tower that are very dangerous. Head northeast to the Garuberk Tower. Kyra will be under attack from the evil trees. You decide to fight them off. But it doesn't work very well. They can immediately revive themselves after you kill them. So you'll have to run away. You rescue Kyra, at least. She explains that she doesn't want people to suffer anymore, and so she went to the tower alone. Chaz will ask if there's any way to destroy the trees, and Kyra will tell you that Lutz may know. Lutz is back at the Esper Mansion, where the Espers live. Head south of Meese and dig through the big wall of ice. Then go east through another ice barrier to reach the Esper Mansion. Look around for some really good items (Sol-Dew? Hell yes!!). Then head to the back of the mansion and talk to the guards. At first they will not let you pass, but Rune will order them to stand aside. So you enter the room. Upon entering, you'll discover the "Telepathy Ball." Rune will tell you that Lutz left his memory in the ball. When the chosen person appears, his memory will be transferred to them. You figure out that Rune was Lutz the whole time. Rune says that your team should go west to the Gumbious Temple to get the Eclipse Torch, which can destroy the evil trees in front of the Garuberk Tower. Head east, through two ice walls, to find the Gumbious Temple. Stop by Jut first (the town a short way south of Gumbious) to buy better weapons and armor. You probably won't have enough to buy everything for the time being, so just get what you can for now. Then head west a short way to Gumbious. When you talk to the priest, he'll refuse to let you have the Eclipse Torch. But then three evil wizards appear and steal it, and tell you to come to the Air Castle if you want it back. Rune recalls it as a castle that floated around Parma 2000 years ago (Phantasy Star 1 again). Return to the spaceport and Wren will locate it with the Landale. Don't leave just yet, though. Go back to Gumbious and head west through an ice wall to a small robotic facility. This is a very good place to go up levels (and a console will let you get unlimited Repair Kits). Just have everyone use Thunder Claws as items (they cast Tandle, which does major damage to mechs) and Wren attack with a Vulcan (set up a Macro for best results). You'll go up levels really quick. Get to about level 35, then go to the Air Castle. Once you're there, follow the right-hand path at the start and eventually you should meet up with the wizards that stole the Eclipse Torch. Prepare for battle. Use Barrier, Warla, Saner, etc. Just don't use attacks that hit more than one of them at a time. Otherwise they'll counter with a powerful spell. Just concentrate on one at a time and you should be OK. When you defeat them, exit the castle with Hinas or an Escapipe, then go to Dezolis to heal up. Return to the Air Castle and follow the path that the images were blocking off earlier. Follow the path downstairs. At the bottom you should find a treasure box with the Eclipse Torch in it. Upon further examination, Chaz notices that it is a fake. Then a monster attacks. After you defeat the monster, Lashiec appears. Prepare for a tough battle. Use Barrier, Warla and Deban at the start. Have Rune and Chaz do the Grandcross combo (use Crosscut and Efess together) for a lot of damage. Be sure to heal after every attack. When you can't do Grandcross anymore, have Rune use Nawat and Nafoi (and Legeon) and Chaz use Nathu. When Lashiec uses his "All Status Up," neutralize it with the Psycho Wand. When you defeat him, you'll get the Eclipse Torch back, and escape just in time to watch the Air Castle explode. Return to the trees in front of the Garuberk Tower and Chaz will destroy the trees with the Eclipse torch. Enter the tower. Pick up all the treasure in here, and touch the eyeball switches (gross) to open new paths. At the top of the tower, you'll find a green crab- like monster. It turns out to be another Dark Force. This guy is pretty tough, but not as bad as Lashiec. Do the Saner/Warla/Barrier thing, then hit him with Grandcross and your best attacks. If you're at about Level 40 and you keep up a relentless assault, you should beat him. After you defeat him, Dezolis returns to normal, and Kyra leaves your party. Suddenly, a huge explosion erupts at the Gumbious Temple. Hop in the Ice Digger to investigate. you try to enter, you'll enter the room that was blocked off earlier. The priest will explain that you were destined to defeat the Profound Darkness, and that you must travel to Rykros. He also explains that you need the Aero Prism to find Rykros. Stop by Reshel before you leave. The town has been restored since the Garuberk tower is gone. Later on you will be able to buy very good weapons and armor, and even Star, Moon and Sol dews! Make a note to come back here later. When you arrive, Demi will send you a new vehicle, the Hydrofoil. The hydrofoil can go over water! Go to Krup and travel a short distance east to reach a cave. You'll meet Seth, who will join you on the way up. You'll notice that Seth's techniques are unlike any you've been able to use before. When you finally reach the top of the cave, you'll find a temple, with the Aero Prism inside. Save and exit. When you leave the temple, the Aero Prism will begin to shine, and it will point the way to Rykros. Wren will memorize the path that the beam follows. Suddenly, Seth will reveal his true form: The third incarnation of Dark Force! Do the usual Barrier/Saner/Deban thing, and have Wren use Flare or Burst Rock every round (Except when healing), and have Rune and Chaz use Grandcross, and Rika heal or use Double Slash. DF should go down after you beat on him long enough. After that, hop on the Landale and head to Rykros. The Aero Prism will shine again and Rykros will suddenly appear. Land on Rykros and step on the circle in the middle of the room. A being called Le Roof will want to test your strength. He says to travel to the Courage Tower and Strength tower and defeat the guardians there. Then he will tell you more about the Profound Darkness. Collect all the treasure in the temple, then head west of the temple to the Strength Tower. Collect all the treasure in here, then head to the top floor to meet De-Vars. He will attack you. Do the usual Deban/Barrier/Saner, then have Chaz use Crosscut or Rayblade, Rika use Double Slash and heal, Wren use Flare, and Rune use Tandle. Don't use Efess, it will only do 1 damage. Rune's Legeon and Chaz's Nathu are also very useful against him. Defeat him and you'll gain three magic rings. Equip them (as headgear, oddly enough) and return to the temple to heal up. Now head southeast to the Courage Tower. Collect all the treasure, then head to the top to meet Sa-Lews. Deal with him the same way you did De- Vars. You'll get two more rings (oddly, the last one can't be equipped). Return to the temple once again. Le Roof will explain how the Profound Darkness came to be, and how the Great Light defeated and banished it. It had created Algo to seal the portal and prevent the Profound Darkness from coming back. The barrier weakens every thousand years or so (thus the first two PS games), and so Rykros was created to remind the Protectors of their mission. The Dark Force finally succeeded in destroying Parma, and thus part of the seal is gone. Now the Profound Darkness is finally trying to get free and destroy the galaxy. With the Rings that you have, you'll be protected from the worst of the darkness, and thus you are the only ones who can stop it. Chaz gets angry at this, and refuses to follow the path that the Great Light set for him. He claims that he is no different than Zio if he follows the Great Light's will. Rune will ask Chaz to come to the Esper Mansion, because he wants Chaz to meet someone. Return to the Esper Mansion, and the inner sanctum where the Telepathy ball is held. Rune will open a secret door and tell Chaz to go inside. You'll be alone at this point, so I wouldn't reccomend trying to fight anything. When you reach a small room with a statue, a voice will begin talking to Chaz. It tells him of the Elydeon sword, and how it shelters the spirits of Algo's protectors. Chaz takes the sword, and sees all the protectors of the past, as well as Alis from PS1, Nei from PS2, and Alys. They are all spiritually the same, as Chaz learns. Chaz is entrusted with the Elsydeon. When you return, Chaz will have changed his mind, and agrees to help stop the Profound Darkness. Wren will get an emergency transmission from Demi. It seems that a disaster has occured. Be sure you have plenty of Star Dew, Sol Dew, and Moon Dew, as well as six or seven Repair Kits, and the best armor and weapons you can find. Sell anything you don't need, then head to the spaceport. Kyra and Raja will meet you there and accompany you to Motavia. On Motavia you'll find Demi, Gryz and Hahn, who will all offer to join you. But, you only have one of the sacred rings left, which means you can only bring one of them. Take your pick (Raja makes the final battle much easier, and the others are good for testing your skill). Be sure to stop back on Dezolis and pick up some goodies (Sol Dews, Star Dews, Moon Dews, etc). The rift leading to the Profound Darkness is between Mile and Piata. Everyone in Mile was killed from the black energy emanating from the rift. Enter the rift and be prepared for the toughest enemies yet. Be sure to have your team in this order: Wren first, Chaz second, Rika third, the character you chose fourth, and Rune in the back. The enemies are fairly dangerous, but try not to waste too much MP. You'll need it for the final battle. On the sixth or seventh area of the rift (the Profound Darkness is on the eighth), there is a chance that you'll meet a Prophallis, a weaker version of the Dark Force. Defeating them will net you a lot of experience points! Get to about level 45 before heading down to the eighth area and facing the Profound Darkness. This is a good opening macro: Wren: Barrier Rika: Saner (Deban 2nd round) Chaz: Attack Rune: Nafoi (save your techs!) Hahn: Vision Raja: Blessing Gryz: War Cry Kyra: Warla (don't bother with Rika's Deban if you bring Kyra) Demi: Barrier The Profound Darkness' first form isn't too dangerous. Just save your major techniques. It only attacks one character per round. Have Wren use Flare, Chaz attack, Rika use Double Slash or healing techs and items, Hahn use Nawat, Rune use Nafoi, Kyra use Nawat, Demi attack, and Raja attack or heal. After you deal enough damage, it will morph into a new form. In the second round, the PD gets a little tougher. Use stronger techs now, but save your best ones. Wren should keep up the Flare attack, and Rune and Chaz should use Grandcross two or three times. You can also have Kyra or Hahn combine their Nawat with Tandle (Kyra's or Rune's) for a pretty strong double tech. Gryz should attack, Demi should use Phononmezer one or two times, and Raja can use St. Fire once or twice. After you inflict enough damage, the Darkness will morph into a third form. Here is where you can pull out all the stops. Have Raja and Rika heal at all times, or use St. Fire and Double Slash if nobody needs it. Have Rune and Chaz pull off the Grandcross dual tech, Wren and Kyra can use Burst Rock and Nafoi for Shooting Star. Have Hahn use Astral for a good amount of damage. If Rune runs out of Efess techs, have him use Legeon and Chaz use Rayblade, Megid (if you have it), or Nathu. Have Wren keep up the Flares, and maybe a volley of Positron Bolt if you have it. Or, you can have Chaz use Megid, Wren use Posibolt, Rune use Legeon, and Rika use Deban for the Destruction technique, which does MASSIVE damage (usually 999!) The darkness uses some nasty attacks this time, including Megid, which inflicts major damage on everyone, and a technique which removes MBarrier, Saner, etc. Re-cast them immediately if PD uses it. Use up Star, Moon, and Sol-dews as needed. When you finally defeat PD, you get to watch the somewhat lengthy ending. Yay, you won! A short item list. Monomate- Restores a small amount of HP. Dimate- Restores a medium amount of HP. Trimate- Restores a lot of HP. Star Dew- Restores about 150 HP to everyone. Moon Dew- Revives one person. Sol Dew- Cures any status and HP on one person. Repair Kit- Restore Demi or Wren to full HP. Dynamite- Damages enemy for about 80 Damage. Land Rover- Call on the Land Rover. Ice Digger- Call on the Ice Digger. Hydrofoil- Call on the Hydrofoil. Double Techs (Many thanks to the Phantasy Star pages for this list) Unless otherwise stated, any level of a multi-level spell (Wat, Giwat, Nawat, etc.) will also work. Black Hole- Negatis+Gra Blizzard- Zan+Wat or Wat+Hewn Circuit Break- Hijammer+Tandle Conduct Thunder- Wat+Tandle Destruction- Deban+Megid+Legeon+Posibolt Firestorm- Foi+Zan or Foi+Hewn or Zan+Flaeli or Hewn+Flaeli Grandcross- Efess+Crosscut Holocaust- Savol+Diem (Vol will not work in place of Savol) Lethal Image- Death+Illusion Paradin Blow- Rayblade+Astral Purify Light- Holyword+Efess Shooting Star- Burstroc+Foi or Burstroc+Flaeli Silent Wave- Phononmezer+Airslash Triblaster- Wat+Foi+Tsu (Not sure if higher-level spells will work) Optional quests and secrets! Getting MEGID Return to Rykros after getting the Elsydeon and go to the third tower, the Anger Tower, located to the west of the Courage tower. Once you reach the top floor, Chaz will be on his own, and Alys will be standing there. Alys will attack you. A couple Rayblade attacks should defeat her. After a short scene, a new guy named Re-Faze will ask if you want to fight. Answer NO (if you say yes, he'll kill you), and he'll give you the Megid technique. This spell is very powerful, capable of dishing out around 300 damage! Optional Quests Go to the Hunter's guild in Aiedo to take these jobs. If a job is not available, try coming back after completing some more key events. Be sure to take the last one BEFORE you get Elsydeon, or else you will not be able to do it, and you'll miss out on some really good stuff for Wren =(. Sandworm Ranch This one is worth doing as soon as you get the chance. Go to Mile and talk to the owner of the sandworm ranch. He'll tell you that his sandworm has gotten out of control. Prepare for a tough fight. The Wat technique does a lot of damage against him, as does Alys' Vortex. Have Chaz use Crosscut until he runs out, and then have him heal. Have Rika concentrate on healing. If you're at about level 10, you should be able to win. You'll get a bunch of experience for the fight, and 5000 meseta back at the guild. Not bad, eh? Tinkerbell's Dog This one is pretty easy, and you'll gain 2000 meseta for it. Just head to the graveyard in the northern section of Aiedo, then go out the north gate, and walk west to a house. Go into the basement and buy a Shortcake for 280 meseta. Then go to Monsen and talk to the dog twice. Easy enough. Missing Student Not too tough, again. Just do it for the 3000 meseta. Warp to Kadary and talk to the girl in Zio's church. She'll want to return to Piata, but will suddenly collapse. Go to Termi and buy a Perolymate and take it back to her. Then return to the guild and collect your money. Fissure of Fear I'd reccomend getting to about level 25 before trying to take this one. Go to Monsen and talk to the woman in the house by the cracks in the ground. Once you do that, the sign will dissapear, allowing you to enter. Once you're inside, head to the east until you find a monster that looks like a big slime gel. Do the Deban/Barrier/Saner thing, then use your best attacks to defeat it. The Stain in Life This one is a complete waste of time. The 50,000 meseta sounds tempting, but it's not really worth it. If you decide to do it anyway, here it is. First, get the Hydrofoil, then go to Uzo (it's a town on an island). Talk to the parents of the missing children, then return to Aiedo. Talk to the jailkeeper and he'll say that it will cost 50,000 meseta to get them out. Pay it, and return to the guild to pick up your 50,000 meseta. Wow, what a waste of time that was. The Dying Boy You need the Hydrofoil for this one. There's a kid in Torinco (south of Termi) who thinks he is dying because he doesn't get to go to Termi. Oh no, you say. So you pick him up an Alis Sword from the Termi gift shop, and suddenly he feels better. Case closed. 10000 meseta is yours. Man with a Twist This one promises you 20000 meseta. Talk to the scientist in Torinco and he'll explain that some wierd birds named Rappies are wreaking havoc on the crops, and that the main Rappy is in a cave to the north. The leader Rappy isn't too tough, just Deban/Saner/Barrier and hack away. Sooner or later it will run away, and the scientist dude will tell you that he only hired you in hopes that you would be defeated so that the townspeople would leave the Rappies alone. On top of that, he doesn't pay the meseta. Oh well, it's good for experience points. Silver Soldier Be sure to do this one before you get the Elsydeon. This one promises a whopping 80,000 meseta! Head over to Zema and you'll be amushed by some robots. Take them out, then talk to the old man. He asks you to get rid of the robots. Hop in your Hydrofoil and cruise to Vahal Fort. The enemies in here are very dangerous, but give a lot of exp. points. Here you'll find Wren's best armor and his best skill, Posibolt. You'll find out that the computer here was created by Seed, and has gone somewhat berserk. It is trying to destroy all control centers on Motavia not under its control.
