Phantasy Star Generation 1 Walkthrough - Part 6: Tajim Cave
Tajim Cave
Use a Searchlight to light up the cave. After doing that, notice that there are a lot of good treasures here! Don't bother to take the chests with perolimates, ruoginins or searchlights. The other ones you should open. There are even chests with crystals! Notice that there are some secret passageways that lead to good treasures too. The chest at point number 2 on the second map contains a trap, so disarm it by choosing the option in the middle on the menu. The chests at points number 3, 5 and 7 also contain traps. At point number 6 you can find the Crystal Rod, a good weapon for Lutz. Don't waste Lutz's MP while you're in this cave. At point number 2 of the third underground floor you'll find Tajim. Before meeting him, recover all of Lutz's HP using Myau. He will challenge Lutz and you'll have to defeat him with Lutz alone (that's why I told you not to waste his MP). Use Lutz's Gi-Flare (ギフレエリ) a lot of times and recover using Gi-Heal (ギヒール). If necessary, use Gi-Heal a lot of times in a row before attacking, because he doesn't always get the first attack and Tajim has powerful spells. The good thing is that if you are defeated, you don't get Game Over. However, you'll have to leave the cave, go to a hospital and go through the cave all over again until you meet Tajim. After defeating him, you'll receive the Frad Mantle, which is the strongest "armor" (mantle) Lutz can use. Don't forget to equip it! Now talk to Tajim again. I don't know Japanese that well, but according to my friend Orakio Rob (Gazeta de Algol's owner, the greatest Phantasy Star Brazilian website, whose friend translated the text for him): Tajim says he ordered Lutz to train at Maharu cave, and that he was planning an uprising against Lassic with the Motavia Governor-General. He asked the Governor that if he found a special group of heroes to ask them to deliver a letter to Lutz. The letter says that the time has come, etc. etc. But there's one more thing: Lutz tells Tajim they've defeated Dragonwise (the Dragon in Casba, remember?) and Tajim explains everything to the party: to defeat Lassic, first you need to defeat the four sacred guardians: the blue wind dragon, the fire red dragon, the white ice dragon and the black lightning dragon. They guard the legendary weapons that the party needs. See how stylish? Now we have sacred guardians in Phantasy Star, and Lutz knew about that the entire time, but couldn't say anything until he was sure that that was the right group of heroes.
Probably that's why Lutz didn't want to say he had the Tajim cave key before. He'll tell you to defeat the Red Dragon on Abion Island on Palma. Then talk to him again and he will say that the key is with Garling in Bortevo. Don't forget to talk to him! I suggest you talk to Tajim until his lines begin to repeat.
Now use the Soothing Flute (スーズフルート) to leave. Use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) to go to Uzo (ウーゾの村) and use your spaceship to go back to Gothic (ガシコの村). At Gothic, use Teleport again to go to Bortevo (バルテボの村). At Bortevo, go to the house in the upper right part of the town and talk to Garling (ガーリング). He will say you need the Palma Key, which opens the Island Tower as well as Medusa Tower (which will excite Odin). Talk to Garling one more time and he'll tell you the key is in a tree. Go to the lower left part of the town and examine the dry tree that's there. You'll find the key.
Before going to any of the towers, I suggest you level up again, especially if you're still around level 30. If Lutz is already at level 32, here's a dangerous hint: You can use your spaceship to go to Skure (スクレの町) on Dezoris. But don't take the tunnel that leads to the town. Keep walking around the town (but don't do that in the forests). The monsters here are VERY strong and give around 10000 experience points per battle! You can gain a level per battle, practically. The problem is to be alive after the battles. :D
Fight just against monsterfly groups. If it's montersflies and a dezorian, that's ok too (prioritize to attack the dezorian, in that case). Just don't fight against 2 or more dezorians! It's hard to leave alive, so use Alis' Escape spell (ラクスタ) to run away, because running away normally will be almost impossible. After every battle, Myau will recover the party's whole HP. Make Lutz always use Gi-Thunder (ギタンドレ) too (he learns it at level 32) and have Odin equip the Machine Gun (マシンガン) which you must have bought in Drasgow (you followed my suggestions, right?) so he can attack all the enemies every turn. When Myau's or Lutz's MP has been depleted, go back to the hospital in Gothic or Uzo and take the opportunity to save the game, because if you end up dying, it will be a waste of time. It's a risky strategy, but it works. It's hard, but it's very worth it, and you can get rich very fast and we'll need the money later. Keep doing that until you reach level 35. If you're patient and want to level up everyone to level 40, that's even better (since we can level up quickly here). It takes some time, but you'll have a good advantage later. After level 35 it will become easier and you'll be able to fight against groups of only dezorians, but be careful.
After training, go to Abion Island to reach the tower where we'll fight the Red Dragon. To find it, use the spaceship to go back to Gothic (ガシコの村) then use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) to go to Bortevo (バルテボの村). Leave Bortevo and head northwest, through the sea. You'll find a small island with a tower in the middle. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.
