This is where we discuss anything related to the complete French translation of Phantasy Star Generation 2. There is an English translation thread too with discussion about both translation projects.

The French translation of Phantasy Star Generation: 2 is made by Tryphon and Hiei- (Blaw- on the forums).

To download the full translation, visit the Phantasy Star Generation 2: French Translation page. (link coming in a few hours...)

They are here if you have any question, feedback, or suggestions. Alternatively, you can contact them in their own forum.

Feel free to post in either English or French.

Hi,

Just created an account to thank you all for the work you have done. I'm french, and has been lurking around for a while for this translation. You have done an amazing job, we really can't thank you enough for making our dream come true.

Thank you.

Of course, we are completely open and ready to keep helping Kyence for the english translation if it's required.

When I finished my first draft of the french translation back in the day (in January), I sent the script to Kyence (as she can also read french) as a way to check/help her with the translation if needed, and now that the french translation is released (and after three read/rewriting of the script by Tryphon), I asked him to resend her the last script version.

In terms of hacking, I tested the translation from start to end on a real PS2 so I can confirm it work fine on it (and so that the english translation will be the same). Before, I had also tested a work-in-progress version of the translation on PCSX2 1.0.0 and I can also confirm it works fine on it (you can play the whole game on it without any freeze/crashing bugs), and so it'll also be the same for the english translation

I can even confirm it works with the OPL Launcher on a USB Key (as that's how I tested the game on a real PS2 because I didn't have any CD to burn the ISO, I had some DVD but not CD) if you have/use FreeMCBoot. I give that precision because not all games are compatible with this method.

Big congrats to everyone involved with the game. I downloaded it as gave it a try.

lol my french really stinks, but am kinda able to follow along with it (because I already know what they said). It looks great.

I do have an issue with glare on teh screen though. It seems to blur in the top right. (it did it in Phantasy Star 1 too) During fights mostly, a colour streak will cross the screen and stay in the top right. It does sort itself out after a while, but it comes back again the next fight you have. Unfortunately, it blocks the power up bar, so I cant see how either Eusis or Nei is doing. Very annoying :(

You're playing on PCSX2 ? If yes, try to check the video plugin used.

I can confirm it works pretty good with GSdx9 plugin (Renderer : Direct3D9 [Hardware]).

You can also press F5 several times to switch between the interlace modes. In my opinion, best setting for interlacing is the "auto" one.

I also advice you to check the version of PCSX 2 if it's the emulator you use. I personally played the game from start to end without major problems on version 1.0.0 of the emulator.

Edit : Can't promise anything but I just learned that : viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3366 so I'll try to make a PS3 version of the patch, for those who have a custom firmware (which able to rip a game and patch it).

Hi, it may not be the right forum to post this, but does anyone have a save after a certain event in the climatrol with ---spoiler alert--- Nei resurrected?
I'm playing it on PCSX2, but just don't have the courage to do the whole process (finish the 2 games once, and all).
I don't want to hack the game with a code, I just wanted to have this in a fair way, in case it changes anything in the story (even a few lines).

Anyone could help?

There's a big "ISO.BIN.ENC" file in the PS3 version (108 MB), looks pretty good ;)

(And even if this version couln't be used, now that the game is emulated on the PS3, I could always do a custom version from the PS2 ISO. But I'll first try to do it with the official one).

We don't know yet for PSGEN 1, as I really don't know the original game so it might be a bit harder to translate (I played PS2 back in the 90', I beat the game a few years ago when they released it on XBOX Live Arcade so it was easier to translate as I was aware of the original story).

And I think it has near as much text as PSGEN 2 (350k for PSGEN 1 main script against a bit more than 400 Ko for PSGEN 2 if I'm right).

But well, it might happen one day, can't just confirm it right now.

I managed to get the translated ISO worked on my PS3 (which don't have backward compatibility, of course, so it's through the PS2 classic emulator).

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to do it from my own PSGEN 2 bought on PSN and had to use another method so we'll have to give the full package (I had first planned to only give a patch to let people buy the game and patch their own games) but it's better than nothing.

It need a few polishing, of course, I want to do an easier package to install it more easily, add the original icons (and translate them), add the original manual (maybe translate it if I find how to edit it), try to use the original ID (it might require special emulation settings which might only be triggered with the id).

Though it wouldn't probably hurt to have some who test the game a little to be sure it's working correctly so if you have a hacked PS3, know how to deal with reactpsn and how to install package, feel free to pm me and i'll provide you a beta-version of the ps3 package.

I have a near-final version (everthing is okay except the manual which is not translated yet, still searching how to edit it completely. I found it was some dds file without header and if you add one, you can see the files but some are not displayed perfectly/fully so still need to search).

To test it, you need to know/be able to do those two things :

Step 1 : Install a pkg file on your PS3.
Step 2 : Install a .rap file with ReactPSN on your PS3 to active the game.

Once those two things are done, the game is installed and should work.

(You need a custom firmware to do those things).

Feel free to pm me if you want to test it and I'll send you the files (those tests will also benefit the english version).

Once I'm sure the installation is okay on other peoples PS3, I'll release it in public.

Note : Someone tested it and it wasn't working for him, until he realize it was a resolution problem on his side.

<AdaLoveLace> my rsolution is specific
<AdaLoveLace> on SDTV it works
<AdaLoveLace> hehehe
<AdaLoveLace> i m stupid, because i already had that issue

We switched the Cero to PEGI as we use PEGI in Europe. We also decided to put the Sega logo rather than the translation (Sega Corporation). Cero A is "for everyone" and Phantasy Star 2 is also rated "ESRB - For everyone" which would be "PEGI 3+" in Europe and it seemed weird to me, as Final Fantasy VII is rated "PEGI 12+". As Final Fantasy VII and Phantasy Star 2 share a similar scenario event, I decided to use the PEGI 12+ for it too.

And the tinyurl written on it redirect to this thread ;)

We are actually talking about translating Phantasy Star Generation 1 in french.

Of course, it's just an idea, nothing is confirmed yet but we'll let you know whatever the decision we take.

I first want to see the dump before I decide myself if I do it or not (I don't know much about PS1 story but that's not a big problem, because this problem can easily be fixed ;) ).
