Will we ever see Phantasy Star V?

Discuss anything related to the Phantasy Star series

Do you have to refer PSIII like it was a gigant failure in every post? We already know your opinion. Why to repeat the same all over again?
Please, do not provoke.

A great parallel to PS3 would be Mario Bros 2. It was originally supposed to be another game altogether, and had little to do with Miyamoto but retained a solid fan base and stood out as a great game unto itself.

PS3 is the same thing. It's not a sibling of the other PS games, but rather a close cousin that is equally as cool. Not only is it a worthy deviant, but it brings new storytelling elements, worlds and characters into a universe that CRAVES EXPANSION!

PSV would work best IMO as a deviant from the series, perhaps as a direct sequel to PS3.

Hmm? PS3 cast lands on earth, greedy humans love the taste of new technology. Palmans are held (a la the alien in "The Day the Earth Stood Still"). Heores make desperate attempts to reason with/escape/fight the earthmen, but in the end, the technology is taken and the earthmen seek out Algo.

Wow, what a perfect idea!

I stick to my guns about PS3 because I was only 8-9 when I got my hands on that game. I didn't have notions of continuity among the series (tho, having played PS2 I knew what a good RPG was).

I did enjoy PS3, but compared to the rest of the series, it felt weak. The things that make it stand out from it's counterparts are going to appeal more to other people than those games did... but in my opinion, PS3 is like The Adventures of Link. It just didn't take (tho PS3 had way more technical problems than TAoL.

While I don't think a Phantasy Star V that is a direct story sequel to Phantasy Star IV is really neccesary (since the story was pretty much wrapped up pretty nicely in IV), if they do make a sequel, I have a little idea of what it could be about.

So, The Profound Darkness is defeated, and all evil is gone from Algo. But what about The Great Light? Oh sure, everyone assumes that it's a benevolent being who only wants to do good. But what if it turns out (in Phantasy Star V) that The Great Light is just as rotten as The Profound Darkness? After all, near the end of PSIV, Chaz protested the way he though he was being used by The Great Light, who he though was pretty irresponsible in just leaving the inhabitants of Algo to deal with his/her/its problem. Maybe PSV could be about a group of heroes who discovers that The Great Light is secretly controlling Algo and its people for some unpleasant reason (maybe it feeds on the emotions, just like The Profound Darkness did?). After all, there are plenty of japanese RPGs where heroes fight against (often thinly veiled) symbolic representations of God or the like, so it might be a logical continuation of the Phantasy Star saga?

Of course, this would be sort of a retcon of what we think we know about the Phantasy Star universe, but if it would mean a new awesome RPG, I don't think I would protest that much.

When the heroes do fight 'God' in RPGs, there's either no parallel deity like the devil, or the devil is actually the good guy.

As for the Great Light being irresponsible, it managed to seal the Profound Darkness away, but didn't manage to destroy it. What else could it do?

Well, it was Chaz who thought so, I guess he could be wrong (he did find out that there were other reasons to defeat The Profound Darkness shortly thereafter, after all).

How about the Palman vs. Earth struggle? Please comment, I think it's fantastic.

As far as the similarities it would carry over from the rest of the series, Earth would be a very different place in the future, and perhaps they have had biohazard catastrophes of their own. (IE a good reason why Earthmen were looking for another place to live)

Rural countryside towns and villages have been abandon because of the increasing threat of mutated animals, and everybody has moved into the urban centers.

Governments and corporations have been competing in a variety of space programs and initiatives, seeking habitable planets across the galaxy. Alisa 3 shows up mysteriously one day, and the British are the first to make contact.

blah blah, I think it's a great, open-ended plot that already has a definative finale (Earthmen win) but can be elaborated and expanded upon.

It's an interesting idea, something like the end of Phantasy Star II in that the heroes doesn't actually win a complete victory (maybe they manage to stop some kind of threat that would've made the Earthmen even more powerful, but not stop the Earthmen themselves).

I may be mistaken, but I don't remember PS4 having any central government on either Motavia or Dezolis.

Earthmen could have won the battle, but after Dark Force was defeated maybe their conscience came back and they didn't finish the attack? Or did Rolf and the parte manage to destroy the whole Noah?

The fact that we'll never know the answer is why we're al still here, I think. Even 15 years later.

i remember reading, but i dont remember where...

Rolf survived the battle but it didnt say weather they won or not tho. he (they) were completely blamed for the destruction of Mother Brain, Palma, and the sharp downfall of their civilization. he was not treated as a hero. he eventually moved to Dezo and lived out his years with the Espers... the only ppl that treated him as a hero.

or something to that effect :?

That sounds very Phantasy Star-ish.

I'll have to gather info like this very quickly...

You must have gotten that from a fanfic, as it's not canon. Outside of PSII, all we have about the ending is from the Compendium, which says that Rolf defeated the Earthmen, but that what happened after that is unknown.
