Zio's Fanaticism

I don't get Zio.. he worships the profound darkness and Dark Force, right? (Or is it just Dark Force..) Well what i don't get is he's all for the Darkness to reign supreme right? What does he think, that he'll be granted like special permission to live? Doesn't he realize that something that evil would probably thank him by killing him, or doing something evil? Its like creating a religion around your worst enemy!

It is suggested that Zio was possessed, and was being used by Dark Force to propagate its existence in every way possible, and that if anyone were to show even the slightest signs of disbelief, they would either die or be shunned. In the event that he were to die, while carrying out Dark Force's bidding, Zio was granted immortality -- which was then taken away, the moment in which DF no longer had any use for him.

I take him as a Hitler-variant. He described Motavians as "worms" and with so few Motavian villages on the map, I also assume that the burnt remains around Kadary were also Motavian villages. I also started off Dark Force's influence on Zio very young. It's not as hard to brainwash people as you may think and Dark Force was speaking directly into Zio's thoughts.<p>So... Power over people, magical power, purity of the race, immortality, insanity and a spot of neural re-programming by Dark Force.<p>He's a loon.<p> - Joel Fagin

Good. I'm going to agree with Joel in saying that Zio wasn't posessed but influenced by Dark Force. <br>Chances are he knew he would die from Dark Force, yet part of him wouldn't believe that it would happen and that he was immortal.

Ah I see. I didn't know he was possessed. I thought he was doing it of his own free will.

I agree that he was influenced, not posessed. However, you can gather through the dialogue with Zio in PSIV that he, like his master(s), desires the destruction of everything. Being influenced like he was, is it not a surprise that he would posess the same desire as his master(s)? Remember, that is his purpose. In his mind, there is no other way.

<br>I'll point out that, in this case, the words "possess" and "influence" have the same meaning. <p>Taken from dictionary.com:<p>possess<br>transitive verb<br> - To gain or exert influence or control over; dominate. Example: "Fury possessed me."<br> - To cause to be influenced or controlled, as by an idea or emotion. Example: "The thought of getting rich possessed him."

Possession is generally complete control. Influence is just nudging in the desired direction.<p> - Joel Fagin

i dont think zio was persecuting motavians. if another race tried to go to war with motavians on their own planet, however powerful their wizard, the motavians would wipe the floor with them. i dont think molcum was a very good example of a motavian settlement. most motavians actually live underground in the rubbish dumps. if zios army tried to attack them, they would scuttle underground again and let the desert take care of the invaders. the survivors would have to take on a horde of angry motavians, and zio himself would get his ass whupped by grandpa dorin who knows where the psyko-wand is. molcum is probably only a trading point for motavians to swindle palmans. being a bunch of unprepared shopkeepers with only Gryz as guard, they were no match for zio. <br>i think zio hates EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING. this guy wants to annihilate the universe. he sees it as corrupt data on a hard disk he has to completely erase. <br>i think he could have this idea without DF's help. he doesnt have to have been possessed. DF could have just expanded on this idea of his and manipulated him into serving DF.

Taking exception... (Devil's Advocate Mode on)<p>
I don't think Zio was persecuting motavians. If another race tried to go to war with Motavians on their own planet, however powerful their wizard, the Motavians would wipe the floor with them.
<p>Only if they could actually hit said wizards... Motavians have no innate magical ability, and prefer, for the most part, to fight close-up (the exception being the gun-toting Motavians of PSI).<p>
Most Motavians actually live underground in the rubbish dumps.
<p>Only around the time of PSII, and only then because, most likely, of massive climatalogical change that they were not prepared for, and the Palmans pushing them ever back out of their inhabited areas.<p>
If Zio's army tried to attack them, they would scuttle underground again and let the desert take care of the invaders.
<p>Again, the only evidence that we have ever had of Motavians living underground is during PSI, in Lutz's cave (although there are many to be seen on the surface as well).<p>
The survivors would have to take on a horde of angry Motavians, and Zio himself would get his ass whupped by Grandpa Dorin, who knows where the Psycho-wand is.
<p>Knowing where it is and having the ability to a) retrieve it and b) use it are vastly different things.<p>
Molcum is probably only a trading point for Motavians to swindle Palmans. Being a bunch of unprepared shopkeepers with only Gryz as guard, they were no match for Zio.
<p>Actually, if you were to visit Molcum early, before the devastation, you would notice the multiple quards at the gate, note their hatred of Palmans in general, and see the children playing innocently in the background...<p>Did I mention that native Motavians are my favorite species after the Android? ;)
