Planning a PSII Hack

I’m currently in the process of making a Phantasy Star II hack to be called “Phantasy Star II: Revised Edition”. Basically, the aim of the hack is to make it more consistent, mostly with characters tech lists, and other fixes here and there.

Currently, I’ve revised character technique lists. Characters still have what they originally had, unless stated otherwise:

-Rolf learns Nares and Nagra.

-Nei learns Gires, Nares, Shu, Sashu, and Shift.

-Rudo still has no techs.

-Amy no longer has Foi, but learns all Gra techs, and also has Ner, since she has Saner.

-Hugh no longer has any Res, Foi, or Gra techniques, but now has all Tsu techniques, and all Zan techniques.

-Anna now has the whole Foi and Zan lines, along with Saner. She also has Brose, just for the heck of it.

-Kain now has the whole Foi line, while no longer having any Zan techniqhes or Gra.

-Shir now has Nares and Nafoi, along with the Sar line.

Non-technique changes so far include:

-Fixed the Lacon Dagger. It now gives +40 attack power.

-Renamed the Catman “Catwoman”.

-Added the missing Vanleader into some formtions.

I also plan on converting items, like making rather neglible weapons into useful ones, like turning the Whip into a much stronger whip later on the in the game.

So, any ideas? Thanks!

By giving so many characters Sar techs the game might turn to too easy to beat.

If you're using Lory's disassemblies as your base, I've made a tool to split the big assembly file into smaller ones. Expect alpha quality out of it, so keep backups of your work. ;) You'll also need to install WSL if you're working on Windows. If on *NIX you'll need GNU's version of awk (gawk). I have had plans to port it to conform normal (POSIXy) awk, but I don't know if it really makes sense...

I’ve decided to swap the Sar line for the Gaj line for Shir. Yes, I know the Gaj line is only used by Kain in the original game, but Anna can’t use Brose in the original game either.

I’ve modified some weapons too. I’ve turned the Whip into the Laconian Whip, turned the Cannon into the Venom Shot (an Amy-exclusive weapon), and turned the Sonic Gun into the Lacon Bar.

I’m also turning an unused enemy (there are six completely unused enemies, and seven if count the finished Vanleader) into a fourth Wizard - the XeAThoul. I’m still trying to work out his stats, but I’m just gonna use the default enemy palette (previously S4).

Did you found a way to interpret the data to change the color palettes?
I struggled changing the palette, but eventually found a way to create "NeiSnow" and "NeiFire" from Neifirst.
I found it odd that the palette data was there twice, but you only needed to change the other to modify the graphics of an enemy.

I’ve decided to just make a small hack for now that still modifies character technique lists and some other changes here and there, since I probably won’t have the time for now to do anything big, though in the future, I might make a hack that changes up stuff like enemies and equipment some more.

Hack should be ready in a little while, hopefully tommorow.

I’ve decided to return to this. I’m planning to extend the hack to modify equipment too, starting from scratch.

The titanium armour, chest, and cape, will be replaced. These 3 armours never seemed useful to me. Their ceramic counterparts are just around the corner and are stronger. There are two unused items in the game that have no use, I’ll revamp these too.
