I'm confused about ep. 3

I know that the games battles are different, i just dont understand why its different, this is what i think it is, please correct if wrong
1. Items are replaced by cards
2. Battles are more Final Fantasy Style
3. Arkz are enemies (Booma, Hildebear, etc.)
4. You are not able to move freely on the planet
5. This is actually a card game
6. Attacks are turn based
If 2 and 6 are correct, i probably wont buy the game, i may rent it, but i never liked the Final Fantasy games all that much, because of 2 and 6.

What's different in Episode III, is that instead of item boxes, you have cards containing the items.
It's also turn-based, but not like Final Fantasy. It's more like selecting all your actions first, then it is being carried out. Then it's your opponent's turn. From what I understand, you can use some defensive cards while your opponent makes his moves.
You won't be moving freely on the planet, from what I hear. You will fight opponents most of the time when exploring. You follow a story while doing that, take quests etc., just like in the original PSO.
When you start your game, you make your own customised character, just like in the original PSO. Then you select which side you want to be on:
Heroes or Arkz.
Heroes are regular Hunters employed by clients.
Arkz are rebels fighting against Pioneer 2's government.
No side is bad or evil.
Your character acts like a commander dispatching the other characters. Your character himself never fights, but you get to control the characters you send out in battle.
Heroes use weapons and Techniques.
Arkz use monsters.
This is not your regular card game. It's PSO: Episode III.

I am in favor of the game being turned based. It's reminiscent of the original Phantasy Star's (though not an adequate replacement, but I doubt it is supposed to be a replacement).
Also, you choose your character cards, kinda like forming a party. I'm not sure, but I hope your character cards level up too. That would be great!
Benoit... can you give me any confirmation on this? You seem to be quite educated on the subject (Nintendo Power, while good, isn't very indepth and didn't specify on these matters)

well thats too bad, i never liked the turn based style. i was always hooked on diablo, see, but you couldn't change your camera view for more of "action" fighting, which is why PSO was so interesting to me, it made my dream come true, Diablo+Legend of Zelda=PSO. Oh well, i guess i'l rent it to see where the story goes....

I find you to be contradicting yourself, Neo48. You wish to know the original Phantasy Star games, but are not interested in PSO: Episode III, because it's turn-based... While the original Phantasy Star games ARE turn-based!
At least give it a try... :(

Benoit... can you give me any confirmation on this? You seem to be quite educated on the subject (Nintendo Power, while good, isn't very indepth and didn't specify on these matters)

I only know what I've read on the web, and most of the info I know comes from IGN's review of the game. I've linked it on this board. It's a good read.
Yes, I think you can choose your cards, you have to make a deck of I think 30 cards. No more, no less.
But I don't think your cards level up. I think your character does, though.

the difference is the time when the two were made. PS games are older and have more of a "classic" feel, like super nintendo i guess. I just feel that with the game cube they should be trying to make the battles better and better, as well as trying new ideas. Turn based to me seems like the older style of battle, though don't get me wrong, i love playing classic games. i mabee should be saying this in the off topic area, but, i had the same problem with the new legend of zelda game. I thought the N64 zelda games were amazing, they put alot of realizism into them, and when the GC zelda came i was dissaponted because i couldn't see that game in a "cartoon" style. I probably confused you, but i am complex in my choice of games. (again, i will play all the classic games, i like the older style, but not that style on the newer system)

Theoretically your FF games with the bar building up to when you can move is TURN based also. If you choose not to take your turn and choose someone else in line, the monsters still attack.
They can't attack every second, Only when their turn comes due to the timer.
So your comment is null and void.
