Story behind S-Rank?

Well this is my guess. In PSO, S is the best rank then A, B, C, D, E. Well in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Chaos have ability which decides how well they are at a certain skill. Ability is split into S as the best, then A, B, C, D, E. Seems like a reasonable connection.

Hmm. Well, Fire Emblem and Advanced Wars use the S-rank rating too. Either its something Japanese or just another way of rating something. S may stand for superb or superior.

S-Rank is present in many games. It defines "perfect" or something similar.
