I dunno if you're into PC gaming or have a PC powerful enough to run it, but Valve, makers of Half Life and other niceties, have made one of their biggest hits of recent years free for a few days.

The game in question is Portal, a first person shooter/PUZZLE.

I know several of you don't feel interest towards First Person Shooters, but just check Portal. It's free and believe me, it IS a puzzle game. No, it's not about pieces falling from above, jewels making columns or anything remotely similar.

They give you a gun that instead of blowing stuff to pieces opens two types of portals. Then you use your intelligence to proceed. It's all about pattern analysis, observation of your surroundings and patience. In short, about using that thing inside our skulls.

I highly recommend it. It's damn free too!!!

Oh yeah I've heard of Portal. It's supposed to be pretty good for a laugh. Though I doubt it'll run on an ageing Dell Dimension 3000. ;) With no graphics card and stuff I'm limited in what I can play. Heck, I had to install OpenGL myself!

So far the best I can get to run are the likes of Thief 2 and C&C Renegade. Despite it's 17 years, Doom still lags a fair old bit when I'm running the newer fan made levels! Goes to show the amount that can be done with a 17 year old FPS.

The only newer games I've really been wanting to play are Dawn of War 2. I played enough of Dark Crusade to fall in love with the series. I wouldn't mind getting a chance to play Homeworld 2 again as well.

In a away it is. Was it cancelled? Did it even exist to start with or were 3D Realms just wasting time?

I would get it if it didn't come with the Steam kill-switch.

Yes, it was cancelled. Yes, it existed. The company ran out of funds, or something.

In December 2009, Apogee CEO Scott Miller clarified that "we've never said that Duke Nukem Forever has ceased development,"... "yes, we released the internal team, but that doesn't correlate to the demise of the project."

And yet they still refuse to give some sort of time as to when it'll be released or even a progress report of some kind. Either way, I lost all interest in DN:F a long time ago.

There have probably been many different versions of the game that mirror the technology available at the time.
PSO (GC) - NEO: HUcast LV 176
PSOBB Schthack (PC) - Redrian: HUcast LV 25
PSU (PC) - Neo: Male Cast Acrofighter LV 161 R.I.P.

And there have been too. And quite a few if I remember right. To put it simply, DN:F started out on the id Software Quake engine and since then has been developed on every version of the Unreal engine ever made since that time. So from 1997 that's quite a few.

I started PSI on my N900. I play Landstalker on my laptop but to be honest I'm more into this N900 atm, as I discover something new every day. :)

Why I love apples sometimes overpriced app store. I got GTA:CW on it for £5 though. I found an app called "My Japanese Coach" and although i'm awful at languages, I'm trying hard to understand some Japanese, because unlike French or Spanish, I have an interest in it. The app is by Ubisoft too, the creators of Assassins creed and Far Cry 2. So I like it.

Steam is DRM that keeps Valve in control of the games you purchased. If the service ever goes bust, so do your games. Despite promises of releasing patches for the games if they ever stop the service for whatever reason, they're still a business, so they have no obligation to keep them. Hence I don't trust it.

Oh, I see. A valid concern. That said, Portal is free for a few days. I didn't have a steam account until yesterday, when my brother told me. I don't feel interested in buying anything from Valve anyway. I just wanted to play that one game and now I did.
