The New Season

It's back...at first, it is nothing, a quiet, "Who cares?" kinda thing. But then it balloons, and soon some people are talking about it. Then it ends up on several TV channels and the 11:00 news. Fights break out over it. People fake being sick to see it. That's right people, baseball is back!<p>The question is, which of the 30 MLB teams do you think is going to win the World Series and why?<p>As my choice, I select the New York Yankees. There are three reasons for this. One, the simple one, is that I am a New York fan. The second is the additions that we have made to better our team. Randy Johnson is going to bring the kind of dominance to our rotation not seen since Pettite left for Houston. With Johnson, Mussina, and Brown as a 1, 2, 3, most teams will not be able to simply out-hit us any more (as though it is possible anyways). We've added a decent set-up man in the bullpen with the return of Mike Stanton. He can bridge the gap to Mariano Rivera. Plus, we've made an addition to a position that has needed a solid defense and offense-first base. Tino Martinez is back in town, and he is going to take this team one step up above where we were last year. The third and final reason is simple. Players have had a chance to get used to each other. Outside of Johnson, no one is really "new" to the Yankees. We have added three players, two of whom were former Yankees anyway. This will be a very cohesive unit with one goal in mind: Win it all. (Or rather, two goals: Win it all, and embarass the Red Sox along the way) That is exactly what they will do.

The Red Sox. Again. If you are a fan of the Yankees, I have been waving you-know-what in your face since October. I despise the Yanks, and the Sox are simply the better team. I have faith that the Yankees will screw up again.

PROOF? Here: a comeback of the ages combined with the greatest no-show in WS history. Do you remember the 26 Yankee victories? No. How about the RS win? Yep. And it will be more famous than any other Yankee win, I guarantee that.

Acually, I remember 4 Yankees wins. 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 were World Championships. <p>One. One win and you gloat like it's the end of the world. News flash, of course a once in a lifetime event will be big news. No one care about New York winning because it is so common. I can tell you that Boston won't win another for quite awhile. The Yankees have towned on Boston two times out of three in the ALCS recently (1999, 2003), and lost once. We are still 200+ games ahead of you all time, and 10+ up on you in playoff games all time. You've also lost half your pitching staff. You dumped your #2 and your #3. We dumped ours, and now have two #1's and 2 #2's. You have a #1, a #3, and three #4's/5's. I can't wait to see April 3rd, when Johnson beats the pants off of Schilling in game one of the 2005 season.

Point Guard is basketball.<p>THey have the World Series every year, from April to September is the MLB Regular Season, with March being Spring Training Preseason Baseball.

The Yankees are driving people away from baseball. If they make the playoffs every year, we are bored. And another thing- Schilling will not only defeat the Yankees, he will defeat them by at least three runs in the first three games of thier season. Every game. A salary cap in baseball would make the sport more even, would it not? The only reason you remember those wins is because you remember the winner. I can tell you who won each of the past ten Super Bowls, but I don't remember the games. We all know that Yankee fans lost all the wind in thier sails when Ortiz doubled in game five- it crushed them. They will remember that, and the Sox will walk away from that game laughing like little girls.

Driving people away? They sell out every game at home almost. When they are on the road, the average attendance for games is 5% above the overall total. If bringing more people to the games is bad, then the NHL is doing really great, isn't it?
