Somehow I don't think my girlfriend would like that idea very much...

Polyamory's a nice idea if you're not the insecure, possessive type.

Not necessarily. And since when was monogamy tied to being insecure and possessive? Please...

Nah, I'm not looking for multiple girlfriends. I joke about that but I only love my girlfriend for real. Besides, it would be strange to see a guy with three girls with him. In this day and time, you would think that he was some playboy actor or pervert... This type of thing was common in the Middle Ages but not now. I'm sure that lead to some problems though.

It's not common now because of the stigma attached to it. People frown upon those who are content with being in a relationship while seeking other partners to gratify their sexual desires. I have a couple of close friends who are polyamorous and have been married for 20 years. The reason why it works for them is because of the trust and respect they have for each other instead of viewing each other as possessions, which I can easily surmise from this the reason why the divorce rate is so high these days.

And polyamory is distinct from polygyny (one man having multiple women) and polyandry (one women having multiple men) due to it being consensual and shit.

I would go into the topic of polygamy being more natural than monogamy (a result of social conditioning), but I can't be arsed. Ask Monocromatico.

Pfft.. No one wants to ask the Psychology major about Polygamy XD

But did you know that 1/4 children are not even the biological father's children in a marriage? Seriously, 1/4 children are not the child of the father raising them.

Damn affairs and women hiding them..

Go ahead. But if you believe that being a psychology major gives you the right to be the one who absolutely decides what does and does not fall under the category of unredeemably evil, the discussion ends here.

I had to deal with a psychology student from Glasgow who was like this. -_-

It's not about possession, it's about the marriage promise of being faithful to each other.

...What? I don't think that's a difference. And if it's not consensual, it's not natural. Anyway, you got the terms wrong.

Polygyny is one man having many women. Polygamy is both kinds.

I did some research, and I've come to the conclusion that polygamy is bad. I'm not talking from a moral perspective here.

It means that more women get to pass on their genes than men. This is bad for the development of the Y chromosome, and thus bad for men.

Polygamy is also a main cause of violence. With polygamy the richest men gets the women, and the poorer get none. The social conditioning of each man having one woman prevents this.

It can be if you consider the divorce rates and the domestic violence (mostly on women) which are spawned from these relationships. And lets not forget psychological factors as well.

Anyhow, I don't see why people should be penalised by society for choosing to be in relationships that are unconventional by today's standards. I erect two fingers up towards the puritanical douchebags who think they can decide what we can and cannot do.

(Heh. This derailing bullshit reminds me of what we regularly do in IntensitySquared.)

I don't think the relationship being monogamous has anything to do with the domestic violence and divorce rates.

Yeah, I agree to that. It's a pretty morbid situation.

I actually think that these divorces and bad relationships start because of the idea of having multiple partners. This is also leads to being possessive of them and violent rather than if you have only one person you love and care about.

Haha.. Good and Evil are defined differently by everyone. What I study does not give me the right to decide what is good and what is evil. It also gives me the ability to see the good in even a bad situation and the bad in a good situation.

You must have dealt with a freshman/sophmore wanna be psych major. Probably Christian too XD

A Hindu, actually. :p

She also bragged about how fucked-up American psychology is compared to Britain's, as if they're somehow exempt from making errors. Fucking blowhard.

Since you like Polyandry.. We have a term for you.

CUCKOLD. Sound familiar?

That is your fate, to watch as your wife or woman makes out with more guys than you can count. Hell, your kids may not even be yours..

It is a really sad fate.

Polygamy = poverty. This is proven by most of the communities who have to rely on Welfare to raise their kids. The man cannot support them all. Poverty also begets having to kick out young men who could take the wives and also leads to kidnapping underage girls and brainwashing.

Polygamy is only good in one case. To rebuild a dying people. Like if every canadian died except 3 men and 20 women, Polygamy would quickly begets babies who could grow up and branch out to restore the Canadians! More children = More chance of survival.

Right on!

You really said it good Khyron-dono! (Dono is the old version of sama-lord in Japanese which you probably already knew.)

Maybe Peegai is a wittol? (A man who knows about his wife's adultery and tolerates it.) It is obvious that a man who has multiple woman, will also have problems with his wifes and mistresses that also are seeing other men like you said. It is a a pretty sad fate to befall anyone... A family that cheats with other partners is not a very good nor appealing one. It's a morbid thought that your children might be made with other men. That's what usally comes with pologamy though. It's truely horrible for a man to have to bear such a thing...

Heh, I think the numbers on the Canadian example of where pologamy would be good is a bit small. I know you made it so it's easy to understand though. It should be something like 1000 men and 3000 woman for pologamy to be a good thing. Each man would get 3 women but it would be bad if the women would cheat on them with other men.

I remember reading that there has to be at least 1000 men and 1000 women for a race to bounce back into life. At least I think it was 1000 but it may be more than that, I'll have to re-read.

If the number is too small, pologamy won't help as it will only lead to many children who are related to each other. Either way, the race is doomed because of inbreeding but it is also often bad to introduce the DNA of a foreign race into a gene pool. That's really why I don't like interracial couples very much. Some DNA strands affact others negatively. People should try to only have children with others from their continent. This will keep the DNA strands good.

This is a very interesting topic, we should discuss it further. Science is my favorite subject and the only one I really have an interest in. I even study more of it outside of school. I believe that this is where true intelligence and knowledge mostly comes from. Maybe you can also give me a few pointers on phycology sometime Khyron-dono.

What makes me laugh about this post is that I'm now being ridiculed for accepting polyamory as a legitimate relationship. Since when has monogamy been the prime decider of what is and is not a legitimate relationship? And since when have all polyamorous relationships been about making more children with other people?

This here is your typical case of stigma from others who have been brainwashed by social conditioning. What society says must be true! What arrogance.

The same goes for incest relationships as well. I'm not saying that I'm into incest (fuck no), but there are couples out there who are happy developing sexual relationships with their siblings, parents, etc, but are condemned for being "unholy" and whatnot.
