When does a game or console begin to be considered retro?

I have no idea for the criteria to classify stuff like that.

I classify all games retro before there was actual 3D.
Of course there are games made after the "discovery" of 3D and I consider some of those as retro games too.
Most people consider retro games as games that are 8-bit. But some consider, ie, Quake as retro too.

Nowdays I think Playstation 1 and Saturn are strongly becoming to retro.
Also even Playstation 2 has some retro styled non-3D games, so it's not always the age that is the meter of retro.

Retro is usually given to the generation of consoles before the last. So the newest gen of systems to become retro is the N64, Dreamcast, PS1, saturn, etc.

Sorry Semix, but Sony and Microsoft seem more interested in capturing the casual market that Nintendo has with their new products (Move and Natal). You'll have to wait a while I think.


Gaming for me started on the gameboy...but I strongly consider the N64 to be my retro system.
