Nintendo loses out again!

As if PSU didn't surprise anyone enough without a Nintendo release. It seems that the sequel to the much enjoyed Perfect Dark first-person shooter will be played on XBox 360. Looks like Nintendo lost another good one. Better hope Legend of Zelda makes you billions guys, cause you need it.

Microsoft aquired Rare a long time ago, so this is expected. The new Conker game will also be an X-Box exclusive.
Nintendo is really lacking third party support. Another example: Soul Calibur III will be a PS2 exclusive.

As LaconianShot pointed out, Neo, this is completely out of their hands. Nintendo isn't to blame.
You can bet with all the hype (omfg lok at da grafix!) around the game, and its setting (Link is matuur! omg rokz0rz), that it will sell very well. Especially combined with the cheap GameCube console price.

I say if nintendo had stayed w/ the attitude it had during the snes days it would have been fine, even w/o the extras cd & dvd player abilities of a disc reader like sony and eventually microsoft did, it would have kept alot of its developers and alot of its fan bas but w/ the announcement of the n64 as a more 'kid' oriented sytem it lost alot of its developers which didnt want to meke crappy games for little kids, also it lost some of its fanbase (I swore then i had given up nintendo forever). But still things would have been fine for them they still had a deacent fanbase and enough 3rd partydevelopers to support it. And the n64 still had the cartridge which although inferior to CD's had almost no loading time and were much more durable than the fragile CDs. But then nintendo did something very stupid and released a game system (the gamecube) that used CD, but put no extra functions on it that made the CD system worthwhile for other systems (like music and dvd playback) so then gc had given up the quick loading time and durability of the cartridge for a slow loading fragile CD system w/ no other functions (sounds smart huh) and w/ a more aggressive pursuit of the 'kids' gaming system.
In my eyes it was nintendo's own stupid decisions that led to its loss of developers

I say if nintendo had stayed w/ the attitude it had during the snes days it would have been fine

You mean, making slow consoles? :P
The NES had only 1 Mhz, and the SNES 3 Mhz. Compared to the Mega Drive, it wasn't much. That's why they lost a lot of ground, among other reasons.

but w/ the announcement of the n64 as a more 'kid' oriented sytem it lost alot of its developers which didnt want to meke crappy games for little kids

That wasn't what scared the developers away, and I don't remember the announcement of it being 'kiddy'. Just all-ages.
What scared the developers away is the cartridge. Sure, no loading times, but cartridges are pricy, and don't offer a lot of storage space. The CD was the future back then.

But then nintendo did something very stupid and released a game system (the gamecube) that used CD, but put no extra functions on it that made the CD system worthwhile for other systems (like music and dvd playback)

I actually view that as a good thing. Down with the fanboys who want stupid gimmicks! When I buy a gaming console, I want a gaming console, not some half-assed 'multimedia' machine!

so then gc had given up the quick loading time and durability of the cartridge for a slow loading fragile CD system w/ no other functions

It was thanks to those little DVDs that manufacturing games was cheaper, and that it took a long time before they were pirated. Well done, Nintendo.

Down with the fanboys who want stupid gimmicks!

I love this line. Tell it to Nintendo, because they've single handedly released the most excessive and needless gimmicks for their system, even against market knowledge. E-Reader, GBA connectivity, DK Bongo, and now a dance pad for the upcoming DDR game with Mario in it. Let's face it: Nintendo loves the supposed quick fix gimmicks, though most of them have backfired to this date.

I was unaware of the Rare thing...my fault.
Yes, the Legend of Zelda will sell very well, it will sell very very well, it will make its other games look like pawn-offs. Hell, it may out do SSBM sales, but thats difficult to say with new consoles coming out.

That wasn't what scared the developers away, and I don't remember the announcement of it being 'kiddy'. Just all-ages.
What scared the developers away is the cartridge. Sure, no loading times, but cartridges are pricy, and don't offer a lot of storage space. DVD and MP3 are whats popular now.
And Laco, can't forget the microphone for Mario Party 6 ;)

What's going to be scarier is according to Gameinformer 4 months ago..
One of the heads of Square/Enix said that they had a deal with Microsoft to make exclusive RPG"s for the Xbox Next (Now the Xbox 360)
FF titles were also stated.
So you PSx2 fanboys will get a harsh blow, when Square/Enix start making more RPG's for the Xbox 360 rather than your ps3.

I now know a total of (1) good uses for those gaming newsletters and magazines
(i mean besides reading them)
Ok here are the space values of the 64 cartridges, comapared to the space available to a ps cd an gc minidisc and a ps2 disc.
Ok the n64 originally came out w/ A cartridge w/ a maximum capicity of 512mb of space
--Loaded faster and more durable, a little more expensive but didnt have to have memory cards
The original ps came out w/ a CD disc w/ a max limit of 660mb
--had loading times and the discs were quite fragile, and required memory cards, so extra cost for --memory cards
--Included extras such as cd playback, which made the cd system worthwhile.
The Gc minidiscs have a maximum capacity of 1.2gb space
--gave up the duarbility and speed of cartridges for the less durable and slower minidisc, that was --cheaper
--Also didnt include extras, that would have made the disc system multi-functional and mor successful
the current ps2 discs have a maximum capacity of (during the early days) ~4.2gb (i know know its more b/c i have burned games to double dvds and had them work and so on but this is just the known spacs when the system was first introduced)
--Had many extras, and faster loading times than ps1, but has no hardware support from sony so defective machines were comon

Image
This is by far my most loved console, those days, Nintendo was great. All the Mario series were great, oh, and who can forget that gun you could plug in and hunt ducks! Oh, man, that was sweet.
And the Turtles-series. Sweet stuff, ah....this brings me back!
Image
Heheh, I just thought that image was funny, now that we are talking usless gimmicks, just look at all those thingies on that one! :p

DK Bongo

Hey, that was a well-executed game! And the bongos can be used for more than one game.

Ok the n64 originally came out w/ A cartridge w/ a maximum capicity of 512mb of space

Not true. The cartridges were 32 MB. It took a long time before 512 MB ones came out, and if memory serves, Resident Evil 2 used it.

a little more expensive

Not "little more". Just expensive.

--Included extras such as cd playback, which made the cd system worthwhile.

That's bullshit. Being able to play music CDs on your console was nothing major, or worthwhile. Just an added extra. Everyone has a PC or stereo at home that they can already play CDs on.
No one complained that the N64 couldn't play music CDs. :P
I know, silly example, but it proves how unimportant the feature itself was.

--Had many extras, and faster loading times than ps1

Which were still veeery slow.

One of the heads of Square/Enix said that they had a deal with Microsoft to make exclusive RPG"s for the Xbox Next (Now the Xbox 360)
FF titles were also stated.

This is very worrying, as it would make the XBox 360 the next successful console almost by default because of the overhyped Final Fantasy. This is bad, because it would mean that after taking over the PC market, M$ would also take over the console market. We can't let this happen, or competition is ruined.

Hey, that was a well-executed game! And the bongos can be used for more than one game.

You're totally right Benoit! It's not one game... it's a total of two! Three if Nintendo actually has the balls to release Odama in North America. And we're not counting the crappy minigames that the bongo controller can be used for.
