However, <b>for those of you who have no interest in cars, do NOT spam this thread. </b> The reason you should never pay somebody to fix your car FOR you if you can do it yourself.<p>I just took my truck down to Brakes Plus a few minutes ago. They did a brake inspection for free, but they tried to charge me $700 dollars in repairs and replacements. That's outrageous. I'm not payin THAT much for a LITTLE bit of mantainence. Esspecially when I can do it myself.<p>What I'm trying to say is, don't pay somebody to fix your car if it's something you can simply do yourself. It's aLOT cheaper.

*chuckles* Well, even I knew that (owner of an oft-trouble-plagued '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo)... <p>For some of us, though, it's more about the convenience than the effort... I don't have the time to change my own brake pads these days... -_-

Thats what those people do, they 'check your brakes' and they 'find' something else and replace it. You never asked for this, but they did it anyway, and since they already did it you must pay up! Quite nasty...

I refused that part of it. They tried to replace parts that did NOT need to be replaced, and replace them with cheaply made ones. %) Good thing I was watching them. :@

Our old Ford Topaz needed a new fuel pump every year...it continually failed on us. Luckily, my dad knows what to do and replaces it without taking it to a garage.

This doesn't only apply to cars. It's funny because when I shop in computer stores, you can buy for example RAM(sound or video card or whatever else would fit here). Than they say, let us install it for a mere $50. I than laugh at them and say no thanks, cause all it takes to install RAM is to open up the computer, push it into a slot, close the computer, and there ya go. Easy as pie, well actually easier than pie...

Yeah... I installed my RAM myself too. Remembering to put the largest first. So now I have a 128 MB and 32 MB RAM stick in my PC. <br>I've installed my Ethernet network card myself too.

When we have car problems, we just go down to this place called “Baja Tire Co.” It’s a very honest small place where they never overcharge you. They say tires, but they also give other kinds of maintenance like on brakes. The most they’ve charged us is like, $40. That was because we wanted all our tires replaced. I have to say, my dad hasn’t had to check his tires for some time now.

Hey noah, i'm going into tech for that kinda stuff i could do it for at least $699! WE WILL BEAT THE COMPETITORS PRICES!!! no but seriously....for a little maintenance...700 is a bit too much...Kick em in the nuts!!! (I'm getting my silverado as soon as i pass my test in 1 year...i hate to wait)
