Don't! It's the fault of the US players themselves!
And also because the EU servers' contract runs to 2006. %)
Besides, it was open a half year longer than it was going to be, because of player feedback.

Thats strange. If the Dreamcast does so well (as you seem to imply) then why would they knock off a server?

Oh, well that seems to maybe make sense. Afterall, the PS2 is more powerful, right?

Nope. It's bad design makes it harder to program for, and it lacks enough video RAM.
The Dreamcast is still better.

It is? I never knew that. I thought GameCube > X-Box > PS 2 > Dreamcast. :?

Where did you get that equation? o_O
The right one in terms of technical specs is:
XBox > GameCube > Dreamcast > PS2

Unfortunately, in Canada, sales are more likely:
PS2 > XBox > Gamecube > Dreamcast
But maybe its because the Dreamcast is old? Who knows...

I dunno, I figured the one people buy the most is the best? :?

Here's a useful lesson for you:
NEVER, EVER assume that. People are stupid. They can easily be fooled by ad campaigns, TV, Internet, and the like. They never verify their sources, or confirm for themselves.
Popularity does NOT equal quality. For example, when the PS2 came out, it had crap games for launch, while the Dreamcast had an ever-growing library of quality games. But the PS2 was the most popular, and everyone bought that.
Final Fantasy is another example. The Sega Saturn rocked Japan because it had RPGs (which Sony at first said they wouldn't let on their console) and fighting games. Then, Final Fantasy VII was released for the PSX, and everyone bought that, and let the Sega Saturn die.
Want another example of stupidity I just read yesterday at the other board I frequent?
This fellow board member walked into a shop one day, and waited in line to be served. Then, there's this woman who comes in the shop a bit later, and she makes a call with her mobile phone. Of course, the board member could easily overhear the conversation. Then, the woman yelled at him for overhearing the conversation.
Does that make sense to you?! It sure doesn't to me! :@

What I still don't understand is why I can go into a pawn shop and see no PS2s for sale, and yet a pile of DC sitting there for purchase? If the DC is so much more powerful that the PS2, then why not compete!? Why not try for its "rightful" spot in the market? This does not make sense to me.

It's really quite simple. People keep their PS2 once they buy them, of course. I mean, if you bought a console, you would keep it, no? Unless... the so-called generation of consoles comes around, and you sell your 'out-dated' console to buy the new one. This is what happened. The Dreamcast was discontinued, and people moved on to the 'next generation' (while technically the Dreamcast is of the same, go figure).
As for why not compete, well, they tried. In the end, not enough consoles were bought, and thus Sega had to pull back, or they would go bankrupt.
Why it didn't succeed? Like I said, people are stupid. They all became zombies because of Sony's past dominance of the market with the PSX. So they are now sheeps.
