The AMD's still run at about the same speed of the p4's. Example an AMD atheolon 3200 runs at 2.2ghz but is equivelent to a p4 3.0ghz.

Got some online documentation for that stuff?<br>Some days ago I was putting together a list for my future PC for fun and seeing how much it would cost, and I stumbled upon the AMD chips. I've tried looking for how they compare and what their actual speed is, but I haven't found much.

I bought another 512 MB of RAM today (to make it a full Gig) and guess what? The stick is bad!!! Guess I gotta take it back

Well, actually, I am planning on putting together a second PC strictly for recording music. I have almost everything I need except RAM, a case, and a hard drive. These final pieces I have been slowly acquiring. I found the RAM on sale at Fry's yesterday and since my current PC uses the same type, I just figured I would throw it in there until I have everything else I need. It was just for kicks until I get the last two pieces... And it's a good thing I did that too, otherwise I wouldn't have known it was defective. So, there you have it.<p>BTW, I like your new avatar... pretty sweet!

Man if I had 1 GB of RAM, I'd be doing alot more 3D animation. Rendering that stuff takes hours for a 5 second animation. But more RAM improves the overall speed of your computer (of course the rest of your computer has to be at about the same level though).

I fill 512 MB of RAM easily . I've got many things open at once, like Photoshop, Unreal Tournament, Maya, Flash, Gamespy, Mozilla, Bitorrent, Cerberus FTP, WS_FTP, Trillian, ect. So I'm always hunting for more RAM. But right now I need a better video card, my 64 MB PCI just doesn't cut it anymore ~_~.

At that point I would say to concentrate on less applications. o_O;

I only play the UT 2k4 Demo right now. I need to get the CD to install the patch on UT <p>But neways, my new computer is great! Im fully attached to it. I can type normal on the new keyboard and everything! :angel:

For example, if I'm working on my webpage (images and such) I'll have Photoshop open, and Maya, and PHP Expert Editor. And maybe a video player for screenshots of shows. And considering I'm working on 2 monitors, that can take up a nice chunk of RAM.

Yeah, 512 is more than enough for me. And I don't multi-task all that much, but I feel it's better to have more than you need than not enough... especially when the cost difference isn't all that big.<p>I got my replacement stick today... so far so good!

My laptop is:<p>1.67 Ghz mobile p4<br>512 mb ram<br>30 gb hd<br>32 mb ati mobility radeon 7500<br>DVD/CD-rw Combo ((16x dvd-rom / 8-24-8 Cdrw))<p>It is fast and well I like it. o.o Plus it runs newer games well.<p>I end up using it more than my 266 mhz desktop.<p>I don't even use up a quarter of that 512 mb with the processes I run.. But I do want to get it to 1 gb of ram just for the hell of it.<p>Only problem is Laptops are HARD to upgrade and I don't think I can upgrade the graphics card.. Oh I can get 32 more mb on it to be 64.. But I can't switch cards.<p>It's sad.. But I love it more than my other laptop ^^<br>Anyways, congrats on the new PC!
