As to what's "official"... we've seen Landale retranslated to Landeel (see: PSU), so it'd make sense that officially they prefer the more accurate version.

His last name was always La Shiec, it's just that nobody ever spelled or pronounced it correctly and he gave up on correcting them. Lutz found out about this while researching Dark Force and that's why Rune knows to call him by the right name in PSIV. :wacko: </intentionally stupid theory>

I think the difference is because (at least in PSI) Lashiec is spelled (in japanese)<br>Rashiiku.<p>Now, Lassic isn't the same as Rashiiku because Lassic would have a short 'i' sound. <br>Lashiec is closer because it implies a long 'i' sound and a longer sound at that. On speculation, I would have to believe that they are translated from the same Rashiiku, because why would the American PSIV Lashiec be closer to the Japanese PSI spelling if it weren't?

It's just a romanisation inconsistency. It happens all the time in translated Japanese games and manga/anime. Nothing unusual and quite forgivable. Just to make sure, I searched up some Japanese sites on Google, and I can safely tell everyone that the spelling in Japanese is exactly the same:

lots of words are pronounced differently between ps1 and ps4... Lassic and Lashiec, Baya Malay and Baramaray, Alsulin and Alshline, Dark [strike] Phallus [/strike] Falz and Dark Force. it's not like the Palman language wouldn't have changed over thousands of years anyway...

Well... I for one adhere to the "if they're the same in in the JP version, they're the same"-school of PS theoretology, so I don't think its worth making theories from translation discrepancies.

No, that's just weird. Not that I can recall anyone claiming that, but since it is in JP that they are spelled the same there should be no doubt that they're the same there.

Yeah, although I think they changed Dark LOL... "Fuarusu" to Dark Force because they hadn't yet thought of translating it to Dark Falz.

Could that be the dude at Camineet.net by any chance? I remember looking at that site a few years ago and s/he was so convinced that the spelling inconsistencies weren't a mistake and wrote whole essays on how PSII's Lutz (Rutsu) wasn't PSI's Noah (Rutsu in Japanese) and explaining that the original isn't really canon. Can't remember whether s/he said anything about Lashiec.
