Hugh, Kain or Anna? (PSII)

Postby Zucca » Sun Sep 14, 2008 7:07 pm

I'm trying to put together a party in PSII that would make the game easiest possible. Now playing with "Rolf and the girls" party it's a bit hard sometimes. And I have Shir Equipped with two emels. She's using Storm Gear to attack. Next time I want to make a party that simply kicks ass.

I think the best "damage" party in PSII is: Rolf, Rudo, and two between Hugh, Kain or Anna.
But I learned that it's quite nice to have Amy with, but you could left her out and use GiRes equipment.
Shir isn't any good because the nasty error on Laconian dagger.
Rudo is a "must have". He's very valuable in dams. He's basically "Foi/GiFoi/NaFoi every round" dude.

But I can't decide with Hugh, Kain and Anna. Kain would be nice at dams, but Hugh could be better in overall. He's useful in dezo too.
But basically it's about the weapons. Is Anna's slicers better than the shots/knifes/maces that Hugh and Kain can use?

Any opinions how to construct my party?
At the moment I'm thinking Rolf, Rudo, Amy, Hugh would be the best. But replacing Amy is a possibility.

Also is there much difference with Kain's and Hugh's fighting skills?

I would definitely include Anna. A group-hitting weapon is useful, and one of the game's Nei series weapons is the Nei Slasher.

Hugh and Kain both are weak with equipment. Hugh has good Techniques against bio-monsters. Kain has good Techniques against machines. Both kinds appear on Dezo, so there is no clear winner.

But robots appear mostly in outdoors on Dezo. I can manage trough dams by getting storm gear and snow crown as early as possible.
I haven't tested if Hugh's techs work against evil monsters... If they work, I'll choose Hugh.

EDIT: Hugh seems to have much weaker spells than Kain.

I belive PSII is easiest to complete with: Rolf, Rudo, Amy and Anna.
Amy can be replaced with Hugh or Kain, if you just keep buying healing items. I prefer Amy even she does not inflict much damage. Altough she can use Storm Gear on hi-dp enemies.

Rudo and Amy are mainstays in my party. For general exploration I prefer Anna. Having a nice hit-all weapon is a great compliment to Rolf and Rudo's blunt force one hitters.

As you said though Kain is very useful for a portion of the game because of his knack for mashing droids. I also use him against DF and Mother Brain because of NaGaj. I just give him 2 shields and spam it.

I never use Hugh or Shir.

The last part of the game includes the two major bosses that are usualy taken one after the other (unless you have the patience to do the Noah maze once more). One could be classified as a "biomonster", the other a "mech". Hugh's best techs (instant death and status changes) don´t work on Dark Force, so he is totally out. Kain would stand a chance against Mother Brain, but his best techs are not really that potent to make him all that useful - and a complete waste against DF.

So let Anna bash their asses off with slashers and we are set.

P.S.: the first time I played, I took Rolf, Rudo, Anna... and Kain. I am the true hero of this game :^P

You beat the game with Kain? Hmph. Now I'm jealous. For a real challenge, don't even bring Rudo and don't use techs. Now THERE'S an impossibility.

Come think of it, I'd say that the best party would actually be Rolf, Rudo, Anna and Shir.

Hugh and Kain are practically useless against half the enemies, and TP has a bad habit of running out too quickly in this game, so Rudo and Anna would be the better choices since they don't rely on TP to do their thing.

And then you need a healer. Now this can be done either via techniques or items. Amy has the techs, but the Sar series and Rever use a fuckton of TP which, again, is in short supply. So if you have the patience to steal stuff with Shir, you'd be better of with using items. And since Shir is the fastest character, having the best chance to go before the enemies, she would be the best item user. Her weapon selection is the worst in the game, though, but you can just use the Storm Gear to cast Gizan on all the enemies instead, which is nothing to scoff at, and equip her with two emels, making her a defensive tank and and an excellent choice for party leader.

True. But Shir has low attack. And (once again) the Laconian Dagger in Megadrive PSII has that nasty error, so best choice it to equip Shir with Nei Shield and Truth Sleeves. Storm Gear will do the attacking. That's why I'd replace her with Amy... propably.

To be honest, if you ask me I see no reason to ever use Hugh after the early portions of the game. I don't think I've ever intentionally levellled him beyond Lv10 after I understood the game. He's pretty decent when he first joins but his spell selection sucks. Rolf's techniques outclass his in every way and they're not even specialized.

My fave party: Rolf, Rudo, Anna and Amy.

In a pinch Kain can replace Amy if you steal with Shir a lot.

That's not the case at all. NaGaj works just fine against Dark Force.

I remember at one point when playing PSII on Dezo, my party was Rolf, Rudo, Hugh and Kain. That was a good party since Hugh was useful against the bio-monsters and Kain against the androids. Although, throughout most of the game and at the final battle, my party was Rolf, Rudo, Amy and Anna. Rolf and Rudo have great attack, Amy has great healing techs and Anna can hit multiple enemies. That's the most balanced group in my opinion. Shir is also good but her attack is rather low and it bugged me sometimes when I was far away from Paseo and she would steal something when I was low on meseta. Having to go back to Paseo after her left a huge hole in Rolf's pocket at times.
