Oh please do.

For some reason... I feel compelled to ask for your contact info.

So... how does one get a hold of the alleged paladinrpg?

Ah, that is true... I just saw it earlier and felt compelled to post that before. Still offer is open.. just PM me if interested. Email button is now working too.

Although, ThugsRook, is that GYM winamp plugin you linked better than YMAMP? I'm using the latest version in_ym.dll I know about, 2.5 Beta 2, and it handles very well.

thx for the offer :)

YMAMP and in_VGM both work well enough to get the samplings dumped to WAV files. ive been getting most of my work done here using the in_VGM plugin for the VGZ files.

VGZ files are much better than GYM.

Oh so VGZ is an entirely new filetype for emulated music? I didn't even know about it till now! Shows how out of the loop I am...

EDIT: Got the plugin and I do agree it is much better than using GYM files. You have my gratitude. :)

VGZ == Gzipped VGM

I have converted most of the PS songs to flac. And the filesizes aren't much bigger than with good quality mp3. If you know how flac works, it isn't actually suprising that you get pretty good compression rates with flac when compressing chip tunes, but still preserving lossless quality.

GYM format is for Megadrive/Genesis and VGM is for SMS. I belive it's not possible to convert GYM to VGM without losing some information.

And hey... Can someone upload (or links to download sites) the best version of winamp and gym plugin? I guess that the 2.xx versions are the best.

EDIT: I was wrong:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGM wrote:VGM (Video Game Music) is an audio format for multiple video game platforms, such as Sega's Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive/Genesis, SG-1000 Mark III, and possibly many others in the future. It is also used by the ProSonic game engine.
VGM can be the container for music from Megadrive/Genesis games. And is much better than GYM.

The latest version I know of the YMAMP plugin is v2.5 Beta 2, released in '07 You can get it from Nunzio's plugin site, or this Winamp Forums post by him.

As for classic winamp, a quick google search can find older versions for you quite easily. But I think 2.95, the last before they moved to 3 and subsequently 5, was the best. You can get it at Softpedia, or if want to browse every version try the Winamp listing on OldVersion. I use 5 nowadays, though, but all the emulation music plugins remain compatible as far as I've seen. :)

I'm looking a lightweight winamp to run on Wine. For conversion only I can run Winamp on Win XP or on Win 95. Both via Qemu. All this because Audacious cannot play some GYM files propely. :(
Anyway, I'll try those versions.

Thanks.

^ all versions of winamp http://www.oldapps.com/winamp.php

keep in mind there are 2 versions (NA & J) of PSII sound files, they are not the same.

KEGA can rip to VGM.
the VGZ files are highly optimized VGMs originally ripped from KEGA.

the VGZ files, conversions to WAV, and KEGA captured WAVs/VGMs sound identicle thru a high end speaker system. MP3 conversions sound like someone turned the DOLBY on.

for serious song editing try http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ (there is a linux version)

"highly optimized" == Gzipped aka. compressed with deflate method. Some of the VGZ files could be compressed even more using compression level 9 (if the VGZ isn't already compressed with level 9).
But if KEGA can rip to VGM/VGZ I seriously will try to get it working with Wine. As many other emulator can only rip to GYM. :(

Gzipping VGMs isn't hard - you just need some version of gzip.

yup, project 2612 has some nice writups in their tutorial section on how to do things.

currently im more interested in 100% quality and arranging these samples into songs. (thats where audacity comes in) im not interested in loop tagging or any of that stuff. altho most of the loop tags work fine some arent right for my purposes so i need to retag them or just edit them manually.

the only thing VGZ/VGM is missing is the ability to program each file (song) exactly the way you want it and not universally thru the plugin
