Phantasy star IV - PC version ?

Postby Abelus » Fri Jan 08, 2010 4:12 pm

While searching gamefaqs I have found that there is a PC version of Phantasy Star IV, which was released in Japan by Media Kite. Does anyone has some information about it?

This information comes from the Japanese Amazon's website. Looks like Shining Force is available for the PC as well.

I'm not convinced by the legitimacy.

a bit of searching around and it does appear that this PC CD does indeed exist.

altho im sure its nothing more then a secured EMU with a secured ROM, at best.

would be nice if it was ported tho... potentially easily hackable

According to this source and some other similar sources, it appears to be the port. The rewiew at amazon.com, which is in japanese says that the graphics and some features are enhanced, as I understood it according to google translator =).

Pretty much. There was an entire series of Sega Genesis games like this released in Japan.

Hm. This really might open some new door to the ROM hacking community.

I can't see the difference between the old and the not so old PC version?

Maybe one reason you're not noticing a difference between the real version, and the PC version is because you're comparing it with the eagle engine... Take off the eagle engine in your emulator and compare the two, and you find a huge difference.

Of course that does seriously open the argument it's just emulation, but I'm just saying, compared to the actual original PS4, there's a huge improvement, which of course, is the eagle engine.

Either way, turning it into a PC game is still pretty cool, and will enable a lot to rom hackers! If I ever get my hands on this, I'll for sure be playing with it, and tweaking up some hacks.

I don't think applying a graphical filter on pixel art looks great at all. Give me the original, please.

I hate to disagree with someone while still being so new, because you never know how it's going to turn out...

However, I think the graphical improvements of the eagle engine on a Genesis rom is wonderful. I think it blends the screens together nicely to make a more beautiful picture on a whole... Now, if we were discussing dragon warrior's original games, I would agree with you totally, using the "Make up on a horse" argument! However, Phantasy Star IV looks miles better with the engine... (In MY "opinion")

youre allowed to disagree here, we dont all have the same opinion. (thankfully)

personally i cant stand Eagle on Genesis games.
Scale4x aint bad, HQ2xS is awesome but some games get washed out and blurry. it also takes quite a bit of CPU. (1.8ghz dual core/Geforce8 min)
