If they tried to make a single movie, they would have to create a new and short story and poorly situate it somewhere in the PS universe, because I don´t see how the story of any of the 4 games can be compacted in a +/-2 hours long film.
It would be as disapointing as Star Wars without Darth Vader :^P

They should make a PS musical, the hell with a movie.
Just for fun, it should be PSIV-themed, so they can cast one of the actresses that played Sailor Mercury in the Sailor Moon musicals as Kyra. XP

lol. yes the movie industry is terrible when it transitions games to movies.
but what if there are anime movies involving the classic Phantasy Star games? I think anime would be the key to preserving the game stories and characters.
unless it ends up like Sonic X >_<

The main problem is not the style. They could very well do a good PS film with real and decent actors. The problem is time. To be decent, the movie should be over 6 hours long or something to tell the original plots and give it substance (the dialogues that some of us miss in the games themselves). Even if they chopped off most of the steps you have to follow in the games, to make it good they would have to add a lot of dialogues and background information, personality, panoramic views of the different lands and environments, etc, that would make it a very long and boring film.
I think a (anime) series would make them more justice than a single movie, and less tiresome.

It should be a mini series over a persiod of a 6-7 days if every day or 3- to six weeks depeneding on how they split up a six hour movie. Should be atleast in 2d animation.
On phantasy-star.net some one did a script, it was a typical Holywood type script for a video game. AKA it messed up the main plot.
[Edit by thriwren version 2 on [TIME]1122268097[/TIME]]

Yeah! A musical! XD Anyway, the best game to do would be PS IV as it has much more content to it than the others...

While an excellent anime, they had to go a different route than the game went. SHAMELESSLY different. From time-wasting episodes where they get nowhere, to the mangled ending. While anime has done worlds of good for games that stemmed FROM anime, it doesn't work in a vice-versa method (and Pokemon does NOT F($*ING COUNT!)

For a PS movie, live action or otherwise, there would need to be four seperate volumes to do it justice. The problem is, with a videogame movie, there would be a very tight budget that could not possibly be stretched out over four 2 hour movies. However, I would be content with one well done Phantasy Star I movie, and then depending on how well it does, 3 more respective movies.
That being said, if there ever is a PS movie, I hope they do it right, because we all know videogame movies' notorious history. I'm looking at you, Street Fighter II and Mario Bros.

What about, say, the Mortal Kombat movie? Anyone want to weigh in on that (I've never seen it, and barely played the game, so I can't comment).
But, yeah, that seems to be key for creating a lot of videogame movies: take characters, add in lots of other characters and settings, and turn the plot into something only loosely based on something we might see in a game in the series. (Sonic is the worst offender, in my opinion.)

It would sure make the series popular, would probably even sell alot more units if everybody knew what the series was about.
Actually, scratch that. It would probably just turn out gay like Yugioh or whatever the kids are playing these days.
