Despite coming to this site off and on for years (I was a huge fan of Phantasy Star back in the Genesis days), this is my first time to actually post on the forums. Kyence, I'm about to start up PS1 with your English patch that I didn't know existed until today and I'm extremely excited. If you complete this translation for 2 you will be my hero. I just felt the need to throw in some moral support :)

I was looking the remaining files and found that :

Code: Select all
[clear][blue]ユーシス[white]
何度でも言ってやる!
このアルゴル太陽系は,貴様らの好きにはさせない!
覚悟しろッ![wait]
// text, start = 248e, size = 0286
…………。[wait]
[clear]還らざる時の終わりに…
彼らは,いったい何を見るのだろうか?[wait]
// data, start = 2714, size = 04, pointers = []

Some sentences which are unused in-game (there are used but not in a text form, it's the last sentence of the characters with the portraits, so there are twice in the game, one time in text, unused, and one time in graphic, which is what the game actually use to display them.

With those texts, we can see that the sentence, which is also the subtitle of the game, "還らざる時の終わりに…彼らは,いったい何を見るのだろうか?" (Kaerazaru toki no owari ni... Karera wa, ittai nani wo miru no darou ka?") is planned to be said by Eusis.

Thought it might be a thing interesting to know

Update: I finished translating all of the screens, items names, techniques, menus, and descriptions. I will be focusing on the dialogue translations for the remainder of the game. The French translation by Blaw is going along very well and will likely be out before the English translation. Blaw and Tryphon have done amazing work; Tryphon's programming skills have made this endeavor not only possible, but a much quicker and aesthetic output than I ever would have deemed possible

Some notes before I post some pictures:
1) All technique names have been overhauled; most were based on German pronunciation if not outright German. Some have English roots and have been adjusted accordingly.

2)I created icons before each type of item or technique to help distinguish them.

3)The status menu shows the BASE STATS of the character, not the current stats with equipment. To see the actual stats, you have to use the Equipment option from the main menu. This is how the original game is set up and is not a fluke.

4) When you want to change hand equipment in battle, it will tell you Element: and Equipped by: with the corresponding person and element, if any. However, the Equipment screen from the main menu does NOT have the Element: and Equipped by: phrases, only the element and person are listed. Again, this is part of the original game, not a bug from the translation itself.

This final part will take a long time, it's a lot of text to get through. I will try to post updates more often than I have.

Without further ado, here's some pictures!

Kyence, these images look great! I have been following this project for awhile now, and just registered to thank you for translating Phantasy Star Gen 1 and (eventually) Gen 2. I beat your translation of Gen 1 awhile back, loved it. Looking forward to Gen 2!

So is Amy going to be Anne, and Anna going to be Amia? I also kind of wonder what you're going to do with Shir since Shiruka won't fit in the name box. Or are you going to go with Shilka?

I had decided earlier on that I'd use "Silka":

I think I decided on Silka for our favorite thief. It works both in English and German with the katakana spelling. It is an actual name, a derived form of Cecilia. Depending on where the name is believed to originate from, it has two meanings. From Latin, it means blind. But, if it is considered the female form of Cecil, derived from the Welsh name Seissylt, it means "sixth [child]." Shirka/Shir/Silka is the SIXTH person to show up at our doorstep and join us (Nei does not count, since you start the game with her). That's one heck of a coincidence...and I am going to totally roll with it

Japanese does not have a "See"sound; the closest thing is "Shi". For example, the name Cecilia is written as セシリア, pronounced in Japanese as Seshiria.

Those screenshots looks amazing, thank you for posting. I will publish them at our Facebook fan page in the coming week. Our page has been growing quite a lot, plus 1000 now!

You, Blaw and Tryphon have been doing some stellar work with the translations. Thank you for keeping us in the loop and we look forward to more updates.

OMG!
Phantasy Star is alive! :DDD

So happy there are fans who go through the work to translate the two games. I actually was about to learn japanese for these (already bought learning books!).

But I'm so happy to have found this! Awesome.

That was me! And wow, Variable width fonts seem to have been successfully implemented in PSG2! Maybe now a VWF can still be implemented in PSG1

Maybe with the VWF, the full song names can be included. I even made a list (from the original PS2). I'm surprised that the text used spaces between the kana and the the ・mark. スプレイト in the first song is the only word I'm not sure of.

ファンタシー スプレイト / Phantasy (Splayed??)
プロローグ / a Prologue
プレジャー ストリーム / Pleasure (Stream)
プレッシャー / Pressure
マイ ホーム / My Home
ステップ アップ / Step Up
ブラッキー ニュース / Bracky News
レストレイション / Restoration
ライズ オア フォール / Rise or fall
ムーブメント / Movement
アドバンスト ポジション / Advanced (Position)
オーヴァー / Over
シークレット ウェイズ / Secret Ways
プロマイズド ミステリー / (Promised) Mystery
サイレント ゾーン / Silent Zone
エキサイティング タウン / Excit(ing) Town
バイオレイション / Violation
パワー / Power
アンダー / Under
エクスクライム / Exclaim
ザ プレイス オブ デス / Death Place (The Place of Death)
ネバードリーミング / Never Dream(ing)

It's done too

I'll release the tools I made for hacking both Generation 1 & 2 as soon as the French or the English translation will be published (the french is about 80% , I don't know for the English, I have no news of Kyence since some time). They allow to change fonts, texts, images, and to tweak various elements.

Maybe with the VWF, the full song names can be included.

Not only they can, but they indeed are. Hiei- figured them out some time ago.

Yeah, I even left them in english in the french translation (it's probably the only thing in english in the french translation), because I thought it would be easier for people to search for the music if they like some of them.

About "スプレイト", when you search it in google, it says "Try with スプライト" so I assume it might be a typo.
