(Funny side note on 3: I dusted off my old PC Engine version the other night and played it through for memory refreshing purposes. From start to finish, it only took 2.5 hours! I do not remember it being that short!)

Yeah, someone on GameFAQs said it only took them 4hrs! First off, it took me a long to beat it when I was in highschool. But trying to play in on the emulator a few weeks ago, I spent an hour trying to level up for the first boss!! I guess I just suck. I did the same thing with Ys VI, spent like a few hours just leveling and eneded up having all my swords at level 11 WAAAAAY before I should have! Probably added another 5 hours to the total play length and then I destroyed the last boss in no time flat!
I think I'm just gonna break down and buy the LE set, but I'm gonna wait until after I get moved up to Seattle. Let me know how it is!

Regarding any of the Ys remakes coming to the US, Yoshinori Sasaki, Producer, Konami Digital Entertainment had this to say in an interview with RPGFan.com:

Ys VI - Ark of Napishtim has been released in both Japan and North America, but what about other titles developed by Nihon Falcom? Is there a possibility, that any previous installments of Ys or the PlayStation Portable remakes of Eiyuu Densetsu (editor's note: Legend of Heroes) will be released in the US?
As far as Nihon Falcom's other titles are concerned, there are [a lot of] followers of various Falcom series among Japanese PC users. It has little to do with the games looking antiquated. It seems that tradition is more important than whether the scenario is touching, the female characters are cute, the sound is similiar, or the gameplay feels new. Because Falcom usually looks at their opinions and [based on that research] decides on content, they can probably count on their core fans to be satisfied [with their products]. However, I think one cannot deny, that for console users they might look like old style [games] during the time of the 16-bit consoles [like the] SNES. The [other] installments of the Ys series and the Eiyuu Densetsu for PlayStation Portable are not produced or sold by Konami, so I don't know, but because they have gone on sale in Japan, the possibility exists, I think. However, the sales [performance] of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim will have a major influence as well.

Also, a huge amount of new cheat mode codes have been released:
http://www.rpgfan.com/contest/ys/cheats.html
Oh yeah, and they're doing a sweepstakes and the grand prize is a signed Limited Edition of Ys VI!!!:
http://www.rpgfan.com/contest/ys/index.html

Ooohhh.... that is a lot, cheat codes make games boring, it depends on what the cheat code does, making ou level up to full level is boring.
The game looks kinda like a PSP game.
(PSP games are in 3d too!)

XD
Just saying. But hey, I'll get back on topic. ^_^;
Man... First the Phantasy Star remakes, now Ys... I really need to get a PS2 one of these days.
I loved the games on Master System and Megadrive, and am curious what this new part brings.
Glad to see both Adol and Dogi are still kickin' it.

Got my Ys III in the mail yesterday. Gave it a shot. Here's the review (as of finshing the lava pits):
Much smoother fighting, story segments (dialogue) and bosses are in a larger sprite format. You actually have a combo strike if you keep attacking. They added a similar "change on the fly" option for items/eqp. that was in 1&2. The story builds a lot better than the original (Adol and Dogi talk to each other about the quest for a change) but has nothing changed or removed. Music is the same mediocre playstation midi that was in the 1/2 remake (unfortunately). Art is very nice as are the drawn backgrounds. Voice acting is a little weak, but no where near terrible. My only REAL complaint with the game is.....TOO EASY!!! I'm playing it on hard and still haven't even come close to dying. !@#$

Yeah. Some good, some bad.
The bonus booklette has a mini-faq of the game up to the end of the first mines. A "study" of the original 3 and what it meant to the series (seriously), all the original artwork pictures from the old version, some of the new art, and a short story of Dogi and Adol's travels and what leads them back to Dogi's old town, and a list of all the manga, anime and models/toys that came out for Ys. If you can read it, it's full of cool info.

The CD is a total waste. It doesn't have every track from the game and the game itself has a sound test mode to rip all the music even if you did like it. (I'll take the PC engine version. Like 1&2, it still has the best BGM)
I will point out the game has a "????" option in the main menu. I haven't finished it yet, so I can't be sure what that is......
On the whole, I didn't consider it worth the coin I dropped on it. BUT I am glad I got the bookcase style DVD box for the rest of the games. It's the one thing I am nerdy enough to admit I wanted. BTW zoothe, if you want to compare pricing, there is a seller on Ebay who is selling it for $99 US. I've dealt with him a lot and he is reliable. (ace_of_bicycle or something like that, he's got an ebay store if it's not in the regular search) If where you're ordering it from is pricier, give this one a try.

Hey, with regards to the first 3 Ys games on Turbo Duo.... were the music tracks just regular CD audio (like on the Sega CD games?). Everyone says those versions had the best music and since I odn't have a Turbo Duo, I wanted to see if I'd be able to just use the cds for the music....?
I'm starting to think I may just order the regular version now... just because the LE is SO damn expensive and the soundtrack is really the only reason I wanted it in the first place.
Thanks for all the tips/info, ill-intent.

Unfortunately, the soundtrack CD only has 6 (yes, I said SIX) tracks. If I didn't have the track listing on the CD sleeve, I'd have sworn I had a defective disk (they are slightly remixed to reach about 2.5-4 minutes each without the usual looping, but it still ain't worth it). As for the old PC engine versions, yeah, about 95% of each game's soundtrack was CD audio (a few tracks were cruddy 8bit sound midi, but only few). I've never understood why they did such low quality midi-like tracks for the remakes. Even the remakes of 1 and 2 that were on the Falcom Collections for Saturn were better than these.
Oh, well. At least the game itself is fun to play and stays very true to the original.
(As for price, I completely agree. In the end, I do feel I wasted cash. But that's why I'm waiting until later to get the Phantasy Star 2 remake. After the let-down that Generations 1 was, I am not gonna pay full price again.)
