Tales of Symphonia ending

Postby Benoit » Sun Feb 06, 2005 6:20 pm

Just like any other 'modern' RPG's, this game's ending sucked. It sucks in that it doesn't tell you what happens to the characters after the game. You know for some of them what they set out to do, but that's it. I want to know what happens to them!
This might just be personal, though.
There was something I would call a plot hole, though...
The elves come from Derris-Kharlan, a different planet, and they were the ones who planted the Great Kharlan Tree. So I wonder, how did the world survive without one before it was planted? And if it was a dead world, why would the elves leave their world to inhabit it?
It just doesn't make any sense.

I agree that the ending for ToS was pretty weak. However...

It sucks in that it doesn't tell you what happens to the characters after the game.

... does that mean PSII's ending sucked as well?

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!*
I thought Derris-Kharlan was a comet that held a large supply of mana energy, and was originally used as some sort of space vessel for the pure elves to find a suitable planet for the mana seed to germinate into the great tree of Mana, giving birth to all forms of life unto the dead planet: the elements, trees, plants, birds, insects, dwarves, humans, etc. When the planet prospered under its new life source -- mana -- the elves inhabited it, becoming their new homeworld.
Does that help much, Benoit?
[Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1107722902[/TIME]]

[Edit by ThePeaGuy on [TIME]1107744778[/TIME]]

... does that mean PSII's ending sucked as well?

No, because PSII's ending is a proper open ending, and not somewhere in the middle. While I do also hate open endings, the way PSII did it was good. You were given enough information and conjecture to form your own ending.

Does that help much, Benoit?

There's no in-game dialogue that even hints at this, so no, it doesn't help much...
The ending just suddenly throws the origin of the three at you.
Also note that the Summon Spirits, who also play a large role in the world's functions, are not related to the Giant Kharlan Tree.
[Edit by Benoit on [TIME]1107725835[/TIME]]

You know, I haven't played the game, but by the sounds of it, there are multiple endings depending on how you play...

I don't think there are multiple endings... I could be wrong, but I couldn't find anything about it in the strategy guide either.

Yes, there are multiple endings... sort of. The main ending is just the same, except for what comes after the credits. That part can change slightly.
Why are you spoiling yourself, LaconianShot? :(

The game was great. The ending was a bit weak though.
I'm not sure how those multiple endings worked, though I've only played it once.

Well look on the bright side, at least the ending wasn't as bad as that of FFX.

As I said in my first post, the ending wasn't that bad, it's just that I want to know what happens to the characters.
You know what I think he named it? Symphonia.
Hey, what else would the title be for? :)

Also note that the Summon Spirits, who also play a large role in the world's functions, are not related to the Giant Kharlan Tree.

ah but you see they do have a reason.*some spoiler*
the summon spirits were created to help sustain the world, even before it got all effed by the eternal sword. maxwell, now he's kinda pointless. but the others, besides origin, i still have to figure out why he's not part of any mana links, were just used by mithos as a convenient solution to his mana flow idea.
and ya, this multiple endings thing. i've seen hints at you ending up with kratos in your party again, and not just at that one part where the great seed goes all crazy on you. like, replacing zelos, as in, zelos is actually on the side of cruxius, not just messin around so that he can get that thing for loyd that lets him use the eternal sword. any of you know anything about this? i assumed it was the second storyline, but i was wrong, cus the storyline got right back the way it was before, which dissapointed me completely

Kratos will join up with you again if Lloyds relationship is good enough with him. This can be checked in Sylvarant in Triet. go see the fortune teller past the oasis and she will tell you how good relationships are between characters. If lloyd and Kratos get on well you can recruit him in Tethe'alla at Flanoir at the end of the game. Its the scene where Lloyd is in his room and a number of characters will knock on the door and ask Lloyd to go for a walk. Tell everyone no thasnks until Lloyd hears a noise outside. Now Kratos will rejoin you.

To be honest, I haven't read any actual information in this thread about the ending. I didn't even skim... my remark was in passing.

If you get Kratos back you will lose Zelos, and honestly Zelos>Kratos overall, I hated Kratos character, and him being Lloyds father was just stupid, right when I saw him I said out loud to my friend, "That's Lloyds father." he thought I was making it up but honestly I didn't think I really would be right and when I found out I was I nearly fell out of my chair >.>
The ending is weak, I also like to find out what happens to the characters afterwords, you get some idea of what they are all going to do however you don't see them really do anything.
