Phantasy Star Generation 1 Walkthrough - Part 1: Getting Started

Camineet

When you begin the game, you'll see the intro. Lassic's robotcops (Lassic is the king of the Algol Star System) have wounded Nero pretty badly because he was trying to find out what the king was planning. Alis, his sister, appears and Nero says his last words. He says Lassic is leading the world to destruction and that she will have to continue from where he left off. He will also say he shouldn't have gone after Lassic by himself and recommends she find Odin, because he heard that he is a strong and honored man, able to defeat Lassic. Nero ends up dying, time goes by and Alis swears she will revenge her brother's death. The first step is to find Odin, so we gotta investigate.

At first, you gotta go to the warehouse to the west of Alis' house. It's a very simple labyrinth with just one bifurcation. Go straight to find a treasure chest with 2000 meseta! Now go out through the same way you came from. After that, go to the house to the west and speak with Nekise (you can hold the X button to walk faster) and he will give you the Laconian Pot, an item that will be important later. He will also tell you that Odin lives in a port town called Scion and that you should go there.

Before leaving the city, go to the big shop in the town center. I will explain how the shopping is done:

As you can see, the left option is "buy" and the right one is "sell". When you buy, you can see for whom it fits by pressing L1 or R1. This way you can know who can equip them (although right now you just have Alis) and how it can make your attributes better. Buy them with wisdom. After buying an armor that fits your character, you'll see the following screens:

If the equipment you're going to buy is superior to the item you were using before, the game will ask you if you want to sell the previous item for a certain amount and as you could see above, the left answer means "yes" and the right one means "no". But since these are your first equipment items, this question won't appear. But remember it for later!

Since it's too painful to type all the item names in English and Japanese for every single shop, you can see a list of all the items, along with their Japanese names and prices. I'll describe what every shop in every city sells, but just with their "translated" names. You should look at the list available here at PS Cave so you can keep track of them yourself. You just gotta find the item you're searching for, see how it's written in Japanese and buy it at the shop. I'll always make suggestions of which items to buy, and you can consult them on the lists below, according to their categories.

Items sold at this shop:

Item Meseta
Perolimate 30
Ruoginin 150
Antidote 30
Antiparalyze 40
Escaper 25
Searchlight 80
Transer 120
Short Sword 210
Leather Clothes 320
Leather Shield 150
Fire Crystal 5500
Wind Crystal 5500
Frost Crystal 5500
Thunder Crystal 5500
Heal Crystal 7000
Cure Crystal 7000

Buy Leather Clothes and Leather Shield for Alis. You can equip through the questions (as I talked about before) or through the menu. At the menu, the equipped items get a yellow color.

Now we must go to Scion, so leave Camineet through the exit to the east, after two guards. You will be at the Planet Palma map. From here, you can visit the Parolit town, right below Camineet. Check out the list of items that are sold here.

For now there's nothing we should do here. Leave the city and go outside the walls around Camineet, Parolit and the spaceport. Follow the sand trail that goes north until you reach Scion. But on the way you will probably face your first battle! Since the battle menu is almost entirely in English, I guess you won't have any problems choosing the options.

As you can see, there are three options. The first one is to fight; the second one is to run away (which is not always possible) and the third one is the automatic battle option. That option makes every character just attack with their weapons during a whole turn. If that's what you want, you can choose that option, it's easier to go there so you can save some time.

Choosing the "Fight" option, you'll see a few more options. "Attack" makes the character attack the enemy with the weapon you're equiped with. "Defense" is to defend (which, personally, I don't think is useful). "Items" is to use a certain item during the battle (like items that recover HP). "Magic" is to choose a magic spell you want to use (Alis already starts with a very useful healing spell). "Colab." is to use magic spells that can be created through the combination of those crystals that can be bought (very expensive) in Camineet. To know more about the crystals, please consult the guide available here at PS Cave. I don't really know all the combinations of crystals and their possible results, but when you need to use them, I will to tell you. Just follow my recommendations and you won't have any problems. There are also some guides for those crystals out on the web if you want to know more about them.

Whenever an enemy attacks you, you lose HP. If your HP reaches zero, it's game over. Magic spells always consume a few MP, which can be recovered by visiting hospitals. Hospitals are very simple. Talk to the nurse and two options will appear. The upper one is to heal (the amount spent will be equal to the HP and MP you lost), and the lower one is to reanimate the fainted ones (he/she will be back with only 1 HP, so you must cure him/her later too), but right now you just have Alis in your party, so that won't be possible. Here is the list of the magic spells Alis learns during the game (I can't guarantee its accuracy):

Magic spell Type MP When you get it
Heal ヒール Recovering (20 HP – One ally) 4 LV 1
Escape ラクスタ Defense 2 LV 1
Cure キュアラ Recover (Status) 8 LV 8
Flare フレエリ Attack 3 LV ?
Bind ビンドワ Attack 8 LV ?
Teleport トルーパ Auxiliary (Teleport) 8 LV 16
Hypnose ヒプノス Attack 16 LV 20

When you win a battle you'll see this screen:

It shows how many experience points you got and how many meseta. If the enemy leaves a special item it will be shown right below the meseta amount. By getting experience points, your characters will increase in level and raise their attributes.

Well, before going to Scion, I recommend you keep fighting a lot (if you're still at level 1, avoid fighting scorpions) until Alis reaches level 5. It may sound like a lot, but it won't take too much time until she reaches it and you'll have a great advantage later. When Alis' HP starts to near zero, you can open the menu (like previously shown) and use the healing spell Alis already has, or go to a hospital. When you reach level 5, recover your HP and go to Scion.
