Phantasy Star Generation 1 Walkthrough - Part 2: Gathering the Party

Item Shop

You need to buy the Roadpass for 600 meseta. However, it won't be available now. First of all, look for a man called Joe (ジョー). He will tell you he has seen something incredible. After talking to him, visit the blue house in the upper part of the town and talk to Faith (フェイス). She is Joe's girlfriend. Speak to her twice and she will ask you to send him a message. Go talk to Joe again. Speak with him four times (he will say different things every time). After that, if you use L1, Alis will say she needs to go to the spaceport so she can go to Paseo on the Planet Motavia and that she needs to talk to someone in Parolit. Go back to Parolit.

In Parolit, enter the house at the upper-right side of the town and talk to the guy who is there. After that, try leaving the city passing through the guards and they will prevent you. Talk to both of them. They'll say you need the Roadpass to go to the spaceport. Now enter the same house again and talk again to the guy who lives there. Talk to him twice or thrice and he'll tell you that you need to talk to a salesman in Scion to get a Roadpass. Go back to Scion and go to the item shop. You have to talk to the salesman four times (he will insist he doesn't sell roadpasses) until he gives up and decides to sell it. Then, in the item list of what he sells, there'll be one more item, at the end of the list, which costs 600 mesetas. Buy it. However, even doing the entire procedure above, the item may not appear in the shop. If that happens, talk to all the people in Scion twice or thrice and then go back to the shop and talk to the salesman four times again. I don't know exactly if that unlocks something, but I could only resolve it this way. Having the Roadpass, go back to Camineet and follow the path to the west, passing through the guards and heading to the spaceport. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.

Spaceport

There will be a light green-colored shop. Enter it, because you need to buy your Passport. Talk to the girl who works there and she will ask you a few questions. To the first question, you have to answer "yes" (はい). To the second and third questions, you have to answer "no" (いいえ). At the final and last question, she will tell you the Passport costs 100 meseta and will ask you if you can pay for it. Answer "yes" (はい) to buy it for 100 meseta and obtain the Passport. Now go to the upper part of the spaceport, after two guards, and talk to the blue-haired guy. He will ask you if you want to go to Paseo on Motavia. Answer "yes" (はい) and embark. You'll leave at the Motavia spaceport, but there's nothing to do here. Just head to the upper part and take the exit, which will take you to Paseo city. Go to the second store to the west of the hospital and talk to the salesman. He will ask you if you want to buy a rare animal for an outrageous amount. Say "no" (いいえ). Then, he will ask you if you want to trade the Laconian Pot (you got it in Camineet from Nekise as I told you, right?) for the mysterious animal he has. Answer "yes" (はい) and now you'll have Myau as company. :D

Check out a list of the magic spells Myau learns during the game (once again, I can't guarantee its accuracy):

Alis will ask Myau if he knows Odin, and then he (sorry, Myau is just too cool for me to call him an "it") will say that Odin has turned into stone, but with the medicine he has hanging on his necklace, Odin can go back to flesh. Now they are going to save him. Remember when I told you to level up Alis until level 5? You will receive Myau at the same level Alis is, so if she is already at level 5, Myau will also be, and that will give you a nice advantage now. Now you must go back to Camineet (return to the spaceport). Take the opportunity to save your game. From here, you must go to a cave to the south of Camineet (which has a sand path leading to it here in the remake) to save Odin, but go to the city shop and buy a Searchlight (サ ーチライト) first. After buying it, leave Camineet and go to the sand path that goes south until you reach the cave. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave (as Tylon Cave).

Cave

You can't go any further here because it's all dark. Use the triangle button to open the menu, go to your items, choose Alis and then choose Searchlight (サーチライト). There will be three options, look:

The "Use" option is to use the item (really?), "Give" is to give the item to someone else in your group (if you wanna give the item to Myau, for example) and "Throw Away" is to throw something away and get some more free space on your bag, if you don't want it anymore (but it's better to go to a shop and sell it). Choose the "Use" option and the cave will be illuminated. Check out some good treasures here, like a treasure chest with 3000 meseta right at the beginning and a Fang, a good item to equip on Myau. Since Alis is the leader of your group, if she can carry any more items any item you pick up will automatically go to her hands, so if you want to equip it on Myau, you must go to Alis' items, choose the "Give" option and give it to Myau. After that, go to Myau's item list and choose the first option to equip it (the equipment name will get a yellow color). Now notice that having Myau on your group will make three options appear when you find a treasure chest. Look:

The option "Open" and "Leave" speak for themselves, right? The middle option, "Trap", is so you can disarm traps, because some treasure chests may contain traps and may explode in your face. Use that option if you think it's necessary.

There are some strong enemies in this cave. There are some green slimes that have strong defense, but are extremely vulnerable to Alis' magic spell called Flare (フレエリ). Use that spell to defeat them. Now you must go to point number 4 indicated on the map to find Odin, but he will be petrified. "Speak" to him and Alis and Myau will talk. Then, open the menu, go to Myau's item list, and select the item Alsulin (probably the only item Myau has so far) and use it on Odin. After some conversation, Odin will join your party. Just like Myau, you'll get him at the same level Alis is, so it would be really great if all you guys are already at level 5, right? Odin can't use magic spells, but he compensates with physical strength. He will tell you that he has been turned into stone trying to kill Medusa, but now he will be more careful. Alis asks him why he tried to kill her and he answers that she has a mystical axe that he would need against Lassic. Alis mentions that Nero told her to look for him and he gets surprised by his death. He says that he didn't know Nero, but there are just a few people trying to oppose Lassic, and that he really wanted to meet him. Seeing that Alis has the same goals as he, Odin decides to join your group. He will say that we need to talk to Hashim, the Eppi Village's chief, but we'll need a Compass. Now, having Odin with you on your battles against enemies, any gym fan will notice that he is very ripped! There's even a girl in Scion that is crazy about him. :D Now, having him in your party, go to point number one of the cave to find the Compass, which is necessary to cross the Eppi forest, which is right below that cave. The compass only appears after you meet Odin. Having the compass, leave the cave and go south to find the little village of Eppi. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.

There is a lot of nice equipment being sold at this shop, like a better sword for Alis and a gun for Odin (that allows you to attack twice). I suggest you buy them. After shopping, go to the house in the upper part of the town (the only red house). Hashim lives there. Talk to him. Odin will say that they need to see the Motavia Governor-General and ask how they can meet him. Hashim will say that you need a key to open the door of the passage that leads to the Governor (he and the Governor are friends in the remake and the key is called Hashim's Key). In order to get the key, go back to Camineet and enter that warehouse again but turn left on the first bifurcation this time and go straight. You'll find a treasure chest with the key behind the door. There's no point in doing that before you talk to Hashim, because the key only appears there after you talk to him.

With that done, go back to Eppi and talk to Hashim until his lines begin to repeat. He says you need to bring a gift to the Governor in order to visit him and will also say that you need to talk to Mary in Parolit so you can get the key to open the cave where the cake shop is (you need a cake as a gift to give to the governor, otherwise you can't visit him). Leave Eppi and go to Parolit to talk to Mary (メアリー). She's usually near the city hospital. After talking to her you will receive a key to go to the Naula cave. But I recommend you to do a little training before going there because the monsters are pretty strong. I think you will be fine at level 10. After training, go to the north of Scion and go around the coast, heading north. You'll find a cave. Don't forget to bring a Searchlight. Naula Cave

After entering the cave, open the menu and use a Searchlight, like we did in the cave we met Odin. The cave isn't too hard, but there are some strong monsters. Be careful with your HP. There are some good treasures, like a shield for Odin. Go to point number 2 of the second map to reach the cake shop. The cake shop man will ask you if you wanna buy a shortcake for 280 meseta. Answer "yes" (はい). Here in the remake he explains that the shop is in that kind of place because the bigger the effort to get something, the tastier it gets. Ok, that's a bizarre explanation, but at least there's an explanation! I used to think it was very bizarre that the guy in the Master System version only says: I'm sorry for having a store in a place like this. Here, the cake shop man is Mary's brother, and his sister criticizes him for the shop location. :D

Now leave the cave, go back to Camineet, go to the spaceport and take the spaceship to Paseo on Motavia.

Now enter the passageway guarded by two guards to the east of the hospital. Press the Circle button to open the door and go straight. A robot will appear on the way and ask you if you have a gift for the Governor. Answer "yes" (はい). He will take the shortcake and let you through. Follow the way until you reach the Governor's palace and talk to him. You'll receive a Letter, which is to convince a new member to join our party, Lutz (for some reason he was called Noah in the Master System version, but in the later games, even in the English versions, people always call him Lutz, so...), who is in Maharu Cave. After talking to the Governor, your party will have a nightmare with a monster that will kill you all! But don't worry, it's just a dream. :D After that, leave and go back to the town. Take the exit to the north of the town, to the left. Here on Motavia the battles are harder than on Palma. Before going to the cave, maybe you should train a little bit. I think that if you have patience and level up everyone up to level 15, you won't have trouble in that cave, so do a little training. Just be careful with the "sand whirlpools" around the map! If you touch them, you will fight against an Ant Lion that is very hard to win from now. If the battles are too hard, maybe it would be a good idea to go back to Palma and level up there. The cave where we bought the shortcake is a good place. After gaining some levels, follow the way between the mountains to the north of Paseo to find the Maharu Cave. Maharu Cave

There are a lot of good treasures here, like a gun for Odin that makes him shoot all the enemies! I recommend you take all the treasures (except for the ones with perolimates, unless you really need them). Check out the secret passage on the second map! It leads to a section where it is possible to find treasure chests with 2000 and 5000 meseta! Lutz is at point number 4 of the second map. The party will give him the letter and he will join your team. Check out a list of the magic spells he learns (as before, I don't guarantee accuracy):

Lutz comments that we need a spaceship because as soon as Lassic knows about them he'll close the spaceport. So we need to find Dr. Luveno and we need to go to the Gothic village on Palma to do so. He will say that the access is through a manhole at Palma Spaceport. After Lutz joins your party (as well as Myau and Odin, he will come at the same level as Alis), leave the cave. If he's already at level 15, he will come with the spell that allows you to escape from dungeons (スルト). Use it. Then go back to Paseo. I recommend you go to the armor shop and buy a better one for Lutz, because he's quite weak. Then go to the spaceport to go back to Palma. Before going to Gothic, I recommend you go to Eppi and buy something for Lutz, since they don't have defense items for him at Gothic. After that, go back to the spaceport and go through the manhole in the west part, going south. You'll find a passageway. You only have to go straight. If you decide to turn the bend, you'll find Dr. Luveno's assistant, but there's no point in talking to him right now. At the other side, you'll reach Gothic village.
