Phantasy Star Generation 1 Walkthrough - Part 4: The Iron Claw

Uzo

Weapon/Armor Shop

Item Meseta
Edge 7600
Bronze Claw 1550
Silk Mantle 3260
Ceramic Shield 3620

Item Shop

Item Meseta
Ruoginin 150
Trimate 300
Antidote 30
Antiparalyze 40
Atlas 150

At the weapon/armor shop you can buy a Silk Mantle for Lutz and a Ceramic Shield for Alis. The other two items for Myau and Odin are not worth buying. After buying them, go to the house right to the east of the hospital and you'll find Edgar (エドガー). Talk to him twice. On the second time he will ask you to visit his friend, Pascal, who lives in Casba village. We'll need to go there. Leaving Uzo, go southwest. You'll find a small lake with a village on the other side. Near the lake there's a cave that you can enter. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.

Casba Cave (way too beautiful to be a cave)

Here in the cave there are some good treasures. Notice that on the first and second underground floors there are two secret passageways! Including a secret passageway that leads nowhere. :D

The Casba Dragon doesn't appear now, so there's no point in going there. There are some dangerous monsters here, so be careful. On the third underground floor you can go straight to the other side of the cave or turn at the bifurcation to take the treasure chests. Pick up the treasures now, because you'll need the money. The chest at point number 4 has a trap, disarm it. Then go back and head to the end of the cave. On the other side you'll leave at Casba village. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.

Casba

Weapon/Armor Shop

Item Meseta
Cutter 4320
Steel Armor 7630
Protect Shield 4120

Item Shop

Item Meseta
Ruoginin 150
Trimate 300
Sol Atomizer 250
Searchlight 80
Transer 120
Land Rover 21500

At the weapon shop, I recommend you buy the Steel Armor and the Protect Shield for Odin. Lutz's Cutter is not worth buying. Then go to the item shop and buy the Land Rover with the money you got in the cave. You can move faster with it and pass through the Ant Lions all around Motavia. Go to the second house (from the left to the right) in the upper part of the town and talk to the guy who lives there. He will ask you if you know about a vehicle called a Hovercraft. Say "no" (いいえ). After saying no, talk to him again and he'll tell you that he left one of those on one of those trash piles in Bortevo. But there's no point in going there right now. Now go talk to Pascal (パスカル). He's a green-haired guy that keeps walking just above the two shops. You need to talk to him four times (or until his lines begin to repeat, but I counted four). He will say you gotta talk to Vivian in Uzo. Use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) and go back to Uzo (ウーゾの村). Go to the house in the upper-left part of the town, where Vivian (ヴィヴィアン) lives. Talk to her and then go back to Edgar's house (beside the hospital) and talk to him twice. He will only give you the key to Iala Cave (where the iron claw is) if you kill the Casba Dragon. Now, if you enter the cave and search for the dragon, you'll find it.

It's quite strong, so it would be nice to level up a little. If you level everyone up to level 30, it will be good enough. You can use Alis' spell to go back to Casba (カスバの村) and keep training in the cave itself. The monsters take a little bit to show up, but they give a good amount of experience points. After everyone is at level 30, heal yourself at the hospital and try going to the point where the Casba Dragon is with your HP and MP full.

To defeat the dragon, always keep attacking with Alis and Odin. Myau must use Shield (ワーラ) and Magic Shield (ムワーラ) to protect the party from the dragon. Whenever you're going to choose what to do, you'll notice a little thing on the left part of the screen. If Myau has used Shield there will be a little green circle inside of it, and a little blue circle if he has used Magic Shield. If those spell effects are gone, those circles will be gone too, which means you gotta use them again. After using Shield and Magic Shield, Myau must use Power (パウマ) once on Odin and once on Alis (it's not necessary to use it twice on the same person as you won't get any stronger) to raise their attack power. Lutz must cure whoever needs it (consult his magic spell list to know which one is better for your case) and use Gi-Flare (ギフレエリ) if no one needs healing. If you're at level 30, as I recommended, you won't have any problems defeating that dragon. After winning, you'll receive the Amber Eye (カーブンクルアイ). Use Myau's Exit spell (スル ト) to go back to Casba. If you press L1, Myau will be excited from defeating the dragon and Odin will say he shouldn't get so self-confident. Myau will say something like: Says the man who has been turned to stone! Odin will become a little embarrassed and Lutz doesn't say anything, probably thinking they're two morons. :D

Go to the house in the upper left part of Casba and talk to the guy who lives there thrice. He will give you the hint that the townspeople of Sopia (one of the motavian villages) know where the Perseus Shield is (you should remember it as Mirror Shield from the original game), but to go there you'll need a gas mask that is sold in Drasgow. But to get there, you'll need the Hovercraft. If you use the talk function, Odin says that he needs that shield to go after Medusa and get the Laconian Axe to defeat Lassic and will show himself very thankful for everyone's help. Go back to Uzo (use Alis' magic spell to save some time) and talk to Edgar again in the house beside the hospital. He will say you gotta talk to Vivian, that girl who lives in the upper left part of the town. Talk to her and she'll give you the key to open Iala Cave. After leaving Vivian's house, go to the house beside hers. Talk to the guy twice or thrice and he will tell you that you can find the Soothing Flute, which is a flute you can use to escape from dungeons without having to use Myau's or Lutz's Exit magic spell. Now go back to the spaceship to go back to Gothic. Examine the dry tree in the lower left part of the town and you'll find the Soothing Flute (スーズフルート). Now use Alis' Teleport (トルーパ) to go back to Bortevo (バルテボの村). Examine the trash pile right to the left of the save point and you'll find the Hovercraft. Hapsby says he will fix it. Well, it seems nice to use it right away to go to Drasgow, but go to Iala cave first (as Myau himself will suggest if you use the consult function) You can use Alis' Teleport to go to Scion (シオンの港町). Buy a Searchlight, leave the town and go to the southeast. You'll find the cave. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave (as Jara Cave).

Iala Cave

As you can see, there are a lot of treasure chests here. Be careful for the points marked by black dots because they are traps which will make you fall to the lower level. To pass through them, you gotta open the menu and use Myau's magic spell called Trap (ラプット). You will have about 15 seconds to walk freely on those areas. If you accept some advice, don't waste your time picking up the Perolimates, neither the Ruoginin nor the Searchlight, it's not worth it. I don't know if those chests have traps because honestly I didn't think it was necessary to open them, so only open the chests with money. Take the treasure chest at the point number 3 of the second underground floor (beware of its trap! Use the option in the middle to use Myau's Trap and disarm it), which contains a Long Mace, which is for Lutz. But honestly I don't think it's worth equipping, I think it's better to go to a shop and sell it. :D

The chest with 10000 Meseta on the second underground floor is not only after a trap, but it has a trap itself, so use the option in the middle to disarm it. The chest with 5000 Meseta on the last underground floor also has a trap. At point number 4 on the last underground floor you'll find a ugly monster to defeat. He's not hard, just use the same strategy we used with the Dragon in Casba Cave (again, way too beautiful to be called a cave) and you'll defeat him with ease. After defeating it you'll receive the Iron Claw (アイアンクロー) for Myau. If you go back to the place where you found that monster, he reappears. Equip the Iron Claw on Myau and use the Soothing Flute (スーズフルート) to leave the cave. Leaving Iala, go south until you touch the sea and press R1. The Hovercraft will be used automatically. Notice that, if there's a battle on the sea, it will be inside the vehicle. How could such a huge thing be on such a small scrap pile? :D

Go south a little more and you'll reach Drasgow town. If you want, please consult the map available here at PS Cave.
