How is episode 3 LAconian shot?

Postby Siren » Wed Jun 09, 2004 12:58 am

It's a part of the story! The CARDS are a part of a complicated plot. Ans as I see it, it isn't a card game but a modified battle system of what you may see in any of the PS games. It's just changed because people are ready for a change...
If any one cares, my favorite character is Kylria. After that is Stella.

It's just a cosmetic change! COSMETIC! They could just as well have put the items in hairpins, for what's it's worth.

But, Siren just stated that the Cards were part of the story. A point I did not know. Which means that the change is not cosmetic. The boxes were NOT part of the story in Ep. 1&2. So...what can you say to convince me to enjoy this Card/Turn based game. Because what Siren said made me decide that Ep. 3 is worse than I thought.
Note: the things expressed are OPINIONS. And my choice of what to enjoy in a game is my choice only.

It's a cosmetic change because even though it is part of the plot, it could just as well be hairpins.

But the boxes were not part of the plot in ep. 1&2. So how is that cosmetic? They dilebritly changed to cards and made them part of the story just to follow the "trend" of card games being popular. But what they didn't understand is that there are many people who do not enjoy card games. I wish card games had all died when pokemon went down....

So, in essence, if they were not cards, but boxes, you would enjoy it? Cosmetic.

No no no, Neo, they are not following the Card game trend. It is part of the story. CARD stands for something (though I can't place it at the moment), an ancronym. And the CARD aspect just gives more to strategize about. You seriously need to play the game before you criticize it any more. To be frank, making accusations that don't even apply to Ep.III makes you look like a fool.

For the record I have played ep. 3. You mentioned strategize. I would rather strategize in a "real" battle. Rather than exchanging turns in a fight. I could care less if the acronym is C.A.R.D. The fact is that the items are still "cards".
Benoit, if the items were boxes, ep. 3 would not be the ep. 3 we know. Plus you forgot my other disliking, turn based.
Let me ask everyone this. Could ep. 3 work as a real card-game. Where you go to the store and buy cards?

I could care less if the acronym is C.A.R.D. The fact is that the items are still "cards".

Which is just cosmetic. That's very closed-minded.

Benoit, if the items were boxes, ep. 3 would not be the ep. 3 we know.

What those things that you can call cards are about, is that using the latest technology you can put ANYTHING in it. Not just weapons or armor, but also monsters, and other things. So if they wanted, they could as well be boxes.

Plus you forgot my other disliking, turn based.

I used to be like you, years ago. I played some RPGs and didn't like the turn-based, menu-driven battle. But I kept playing anyway and became engrossed with the stories, and started to like the battle system. Nowadays I don't mind them anymore at all.

Could ep. 3 work as a real card-game. Where you go to the store and buy cards?

Nope. It's a bit too complicated for that. If they would make it into what you are thinking, it would be more of a board game with an RPG twist.

You don't understand. I will never like turn-based because its not "realistic" battling. I don't care about the story as much you all do. I'm looking for the most realistic battling expirience. Using cards in a turn-based battle is just not enjoyable for me.
Afterall Benoit, you script ep. 1&2. I work my ass off to level my characters and find items. You're looking for the story, I'm looking for the battle. And having turn-based gameplay will not let me fullfill what I want.

Could ep. 3 work as a real card-game. Where you go to the store and buy cards?

It was, at first, intended to be a paper card game, but as Benoit said, it would be far too complicated.

For the record I have played ep. 3. You mentioned strategize. I would rather strategize in a "real" battle. Rather than exchanging turns in a fight.

What would you call a real battle? In Ep.I and II, you still exchange turns in a fight. You don't attack at the same time, so in essence, you and your opponent still take turns attacking each other. I believe Khyron was over this before.

Afterall Benoit, you script ep. 1&2. I work my ass off to level my characters and find items. If you think that, you haven't been paying attention.
Neo, you can play whatever you want, but if you don't like Ep.III, don't play the earlier Phantasy Star games.

The thing with ep. 1&2 is you get to move freely (somthing I must have in any RPG).

Let it not be said that PSO: EP.I and II did not have as much story as they did battle. If you think that, you haven't been paying attention.

I did not say that.

What would you call a real battle? In Ep.I and II, you still exchange turns in a fight. I believe Khyron was over this before.

But you are able to attack as may times as you want without paterned attack rate, add free movement and that equals enjoyment to me.

Yeah, like Zelda, you don't attack in turns! You can keep running or shoot them from a distance! #) And it's not like: NOW is your turn to attack, and NOW is my turn to attack.

If you're looking for realistic fighting, Neo, you're in the wrong place. RPGs have never been about that.

I've finally found the meaning of the acronym (I saw it before, though).
C.A.R.D. stands for Compressed Alternate Reality Data.
Cool... #)

Was that in a quest, or something? Did I miss that? I've been calling it Copying And Replication Device all this time...
