DC and PC PSO server

Postby AleronIves » Mon Aug 09, 2004 6:00 am

Hey I don't know if it has been mentioned here before, but I thought I'd get the word out here for the new servers replacing Sega's DC and PC PSO servers. Schthack has made his own, and our community is growing! Anyone who wants a bit of PSO nostalgia on the original PSO feel free to come n_n Here's the link to the main site:
http://schtserv.funurl.com
Hope to see you there :)

Is the DC version downloadable? I would love to try my hands at this super hard Ultimate difficulty people talk of.

No, and it would be illegal. :@
Just buy the game and a shiny Dreamcast, the best console ever.

Actually, yes it is downloadable. :) The link I knew of is down atm, but you could find one. Try posting on www.psocheats.net and searching there. And technically Benoit, the servers themselves are illegal as they are reverse engineered copies of Sega's XD. Heh from what I've heard, ULT mode on GC PSO is utterly pathetic, I heard you can get all the way through caves without a single death by lily! Now that's just funny. ;)

Technically the servers are legal, but that's different since their US servers aren't up anymore.
The Dreamcast version can still be bought, and is still recent enough. It's way more illegal.

If you have a US or EU copy of the Dreamcast version (either 1 or 2) it is entirely non-illegal (although not encouraged), as in the US Sega no longer make profit from people going onto servers, and in the EU they were free anyway, so in no way does using these scratch-servers impede profit of Sega, and therefore it is not illegal. However if you own a japanese copy of the game, you still pay hunters license for dreamcast (i don't think you actually do, but you still have to have a sega dricas account, which pumps you with a fewads and promotions) and therefore by using the scratchservers with a non dricas account you are not receiving part oft he package you signed on for (the adverts e.t.c) and are then classed as acting illegally.

Dreamcasts can't be bought here in Canada anymore. Of course I have seen them at the Pawn Shop, the other day I was there, I actually looked for the DC version.

Even though it may not make sense for it to be illegal, companies like Nintendo still say you may NEVER own a ROM of any of their games, I wouldn't be surprised if Sega had the same view on their PSO servers. In a way it does take money from them as people can play DC and PC PSO for free instead of being forced to pay for PSO EP1/2, but since the actual DC and PC games aren't sold either as brand new I'd say chances are slim that Sega would try to shut down private servers.

Sega is generous and right. They don't mind such projects. They have never sued any emulator programmers, or home-brewn developers.

Could you imagin if someone created a private GC PSO server (free). Praise them. Though, Sega may do something about it then....

My only complaint is the lack of care on GC servers (lag, freeze bugs, few updates...); I don't mind my paying SEGA though: it's a "commerce" enterprise and their employees must pay rent and food...
If only price could match the service quality...

Why should we praise a private GameCube server? It would separate the players, and be illegal.

My only complaint is the lack of care on GC servers (lag, freeze bugs, few updates...)

I haven't seen a lot of lag except for one particular period. The servers are fine.
I also rarely see freeze bugs, and most of the time it doesn't cause any harm.
Few updates? There are tons of quests, and almost every month there's something new to warrant your Hunter's License purchase. If you mean about fixing glitches and such...
It would be hard for them to reverse-engineer their software to do such things. Also, fixing glitches is useless. People will always find more when you fix others. Just enjoy the game and avoid the idiots as much as you can. Don't let them ruin the game for you.
I also would to remind everyone that there is a form at Sega's site that you can use to report abuse.
