Who wants to play H.A.I.R.P.I.N Revolution? Besides, the point I has intended to illustrate was that if you take away the CARDs and put in something else, it's still a Strategical RPG.

I wouldn't wanna be the designer team in the HAIRPIN case, the C.A.R.D achronym sounds forced enough already, I wouldn't want to find an achronym with H.A.I.R.P.I.N.
In any case, I think E3's defenders are adopting as stubborn a stance as those attacking it without knowing it, let's be more objective:
For the attackers:
- There were a lot of TCGs before yugi-whatever and the yellow fever, so the fact that E3 is a TCG doesn't make it automatically lame. If necessary, try a couple of brainwash pills and pretend you're back in old Magic: The Gathering days before trying E3 out for 15 minutes. Who knows? It might even turn out to be a decent TCG. :)
- I don't get tired of stressing this point, Sega was BOUGHT by Sammy, they NEED to SELL, and TCGs are what sell today. If they don't sell they'll go into bankrupcy again and Sammy will sell them to another company, and another, and another until Sega becomes another SNK/KoF. So if you care for the company and have a gamecube at least rent it, if only to have fun making a list of things you hate about it.
...heh, in my case, however, I don't care for the company in the least (they did a pretty good job of destroying my faith in them years ago), and I don't have a Gamecube, nor I plan to blow the money I don't have only to play a single game.
For the defenders:
- It IS a TCG, calling it "a strategy game that happens to use cards" is the same euphemism as calling chess "a strategy game that happens to use wood or marble pieces".
- Sega IS guilty of charge of oportunist marketing, even if we know they did it for a reason (back in the genesis/saturn days they would have never joined a trend just for the easy sales).

He fails to realize I am a Veteran Magic player from the first days it was out..
I won't give my stance on what it has become..
But to me, Being a master CCGer, Episode 3 is not a TCG or a CCG.
The boxes in Episode 1/2 were replaced with C.A.R.D Tech!
Hell, in Episode 2, the monsters were replaced with crappy VR replicas, weaker than the originals.
You don't hate episode 1/2 for using BOXES for items..
P.S. Magic does suck now, it went downhill the second 2 expansions in 3 months came out. Gone are the days of Black Vises, Lures and Lotuses.

I stopped when Mercadian came out.
My Favorite expansion is Mirage.
Magic used to be: You would recognize the card as it was laid down and knew what it's affects were. That soon vanished with all the expansions released.
Also magic became about what stupid idiot could do a illegal Unlimited mana/damage combo, and then when found out they were wrong, they'd leave the game pissed.
It also became newbies who couldn't handle the old cards like Black Vise and left when you were pissed.
Magic went downhill my friend, It still continues to go downhill with the number of morons playing now adays.
If you show any skill, beat someone, you're cheap. If you lose, you're a loser. There is no middle ground.
DarkSteel and Mirrodin were more broken than Scroll Rack and Ancestral Recall.
Hell, the expansion Stronghold was broken!
P.S. The getting rid of "Interrupts" also dumbed down the game.

[Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1106280319[/TIME]]

i stole the guide...i recomend it though, it doesn't give you the answers but you get a good idea of the character's ability's, which i think are about equally as useful as good card strategy if you pay attention....god that game is sweet. while i like the card battles, it'd be nice if you could somehow have all the characters and missions and locales from this game in regular ep 1&2 format

Ooh. I should've got to this thread a while ago. All the arguing is done.

I've never really got into Ranger decks, I can use my Inferno Bazooka's elsewhere! Haha!

You're missing out, friend.

Do they use cards? Card games are turn-based combat with the use of cards. Episode 3 is turn-based combat....and uses cards.

Your definition is not accurate. It misses a lot of details. Your reasoning makes any RPG a card game if one character uses cards.

Haha! Perhaps....but do you thin that they thought up the Episode 3 story to include C.A.R.D. technology just on coincidence? I think not.

It may not have been on coincidence, but they have been very creative with the idea, and created something new and innovating, like they have done many things in the past (like Rez).

Actually, Blue Star Memories was made to tie in Episode 3 to PSO to explain it.
It does a great job of doing it, showing the fact that CARD TECH is superior to the VR system causing the system crash.

It was a simulated system chrash to present an unexpected situation. Part of the quests's plot.

Join the PSoTavern forum and the mp3's will be available for you. All PSO soundtracks. And no ass kissing to get them ^_^
Or find me on AIM and I'll send them..

That's illegal.

AHA!!! You just said that it was a card game!

How narrow-minded...

Okay? So why not hairpins? What was it that made them choose "Cards"

Khyron just explained it. They're compact and portable.

Haha, what I'm saying is that I'm blaming Sega for thinking up a way to include the ever popular cards into the games story.

I don't hate it for the cards!! I never said that!

These two last statements contradict each other.

You are misinformed. Sega and Sammy merged.
Sammy bought SHARES in the company. Through shares, you can have some say in the company's actions. Since Sammy bought many shares, it had a lot to say in the company, and proposed a merger. Most other shareholders agreed, and so it begun.

- Sega IS guilty of charge of oportunist marketing, even if we know they did it for a reason (back in the genesis/saturn days they would have never joined a trend just for the easy sales).

Why is that even an issue? That's what 99% of the companies do nowadays. At least Sega gets creative with the ideas, and doesn't just copy it for the sake of selling.

- It IS a TCG, calling it "a strategy game that happens to use cards" is the same euphemism as calling chess "a strategy game that happens to use wood or marble pieces".

What are you trying to prove? I don't get it. Chess IS a strategy game, but it has different rules.

i stole the guide

:@

But 99% of them aren't card games, so my point still stands.

And haripins aren't?

Can you fit 30 hairpins in your hand and still move about freely without letting one drop? Maybe I'll try this...

That doesn't change your statements.
Stop being so secretive, and just say WHY.

Heheh. I choose not to say my reason in public.
I do blame ST's move to incorperate Cards in the story...even if it worked and even if they are so much more convinient. But...its still PSO and worth it.
Now my reason for hating Ep. 3 is else where.

"Hate" is a powerful word, Neo. Are you sure you want to use it? You've never played the game.
Whatever your reasons, as I may allude to, you need to get past them. You might find something different in Ep.III then what you currently enjoy in Ep.I&II.

[Edit by LaconianShot on [TIME]1106443018[/TIME]]
