Metroid Prime - PAL version

Postby Benoit » Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:57 pm

I'm reading a FAQ/Walkthrough on Metroid Prime to get an idea of how much I'm still missing to have 100% completion. I checked out the one that also said "(EU)".
I've found out that the PAL version of Metroid Prime is actually superior. o_O!
Also, your bashing of SheWren for her hearing actual words when something gets registered to the Log Book doesn't make sense anymore.
Behold!
Q: What changes were made between the European (PAL) and American (NTSC)
versions?
A: I guess patience is a virtue, as the European version is superior to the
North American version that was released five or so months in advance.
Anyway, here is a list of the changes:
* Graphic overhaul, increased environmental ambience.
* Loading slowed down to prevent fatal glitches such as the infamous
Elevator Transport crash bug which dogged the North American release.
* Narration over the Prologue and Epilogue cinemas.
* Voice samples added for various events; such as locked doors, scanning,
and travelling between the Impact Crater and Tallon Overworld.
* Difficulty tweaked (generally made harder).
* Sequence breaking made more difficult. For example, Bendezium rubble now
blocks the way to the Plasma and Grapple Beams.
* Hint System takes longer to activate.
* Item Collection and Scan Percentages displayed in Pause Menu from start.
* Log Book entries organised in logical order.
* Ice Shriekbats will respawn.
* No Hunter Metroid in the Hunter Cave.
* Samus's reflection visible in reflective surfaces.
* Complete storyline clean-up. The plothole of the Space Pirates battling
and capturing Metroid Prime, despite the fact it was contained within the
impenetrable Cipher was fixed. All direct references to Samus's Chozo
origins were removed or made more ambiguous. Overall the plot is much
more coherent.
* Uses 3 Memory Card Blocks instead of 1 Memory Card Block. This has been
done to speed up saving, as less compression is used.

Yeah, I read stuff about the PAL version of MP being superior to the NTSC one a couple of years ago from the net.
Did you enjoy MP, Benoit? Getting its sequel? :)

Well doesn't this make us North Americans feel a lot better about Metroid Prime? "Yay! Second place!" ~_~

Oh well, I've already beaten it, and its hard version (99% :@ ). To be honest, hard wasn't...hard...
I've got MP2: Echos, but haven't played it in a while, been busy. So far though, I like Echo's much more, the graphics have been improved (better textures) and their physics engine has been re-worked (shoot bodies hanging from the ceiling and they'll move from the pressure of your shot). Not to mention the interesting plot and second Samus ~0 .

Now the question is.. Most people writing the FAQS and on the message boards consider "ADAM" to be the computer giving her the readout and log informations..
What do you all think?

I've also never heard of Adam. But her Chozo suit is equiped with the scanner so its the suit, not 'Adam'.

'Adam' is supposed to be the dead pilot(computer or human?)to Samuses ship. (you find this out when you play Metroid Fusion) but I think MP was way too easy I got 100% on the third try.

Adam was a military intelligence officer that aided Samus in all her missions. Data, Briefings, always called her "lady". He was a military genius and died, he was Adam Malkovich.
In Metroid Fusion, Samus dubs her ships computer "Adam" Because it reminds her of her old friend.
If I could find the Metroid Fusion script, I'd quote exact wordings of her reflections.
FUSION DIALOGUE - WARNING! SPOILERS!!:

"That computer reminds me of a gruff Federation CO I served under named Adam
Malkovich. He called me "Lady" on missions; from anyone else, it would've
sounded sarcastic, but Adam made it sound dignified. Out of respect and with
some irony, I named the computer after him."
"As I listened to the briefing, my thoughts turned to Adam. The real Adam
understood me well. He would end orders by saying, "Any objections, Lady?" He
knew I wouldn't disagree. That was just his way of noting our trust. I wonder
if I can trust this computer too..."
"The real Adam would have said the same thing about that incident, but he would
have softened the blow. He was relentless in his criticism, but he always
cared... He was not a machine obsessed with duty. No such compassion could
exist in that computer..."
Samus: Fools...
As soon as the Federation ships land, the X will overwhelm them and absorb the
knowledge and power of their occupants. The X are just waiting for the hunt
to begin, and then they'll spread across the universe. Galactic civilization
will end. The X hunger for form, knowledge, and power. They mimic these
perfectly. But they cannot copy the soul. They're single-minded,
instinctively seeking to increase in number. They're a plague, and the
Federation underestimates their threat. The X must not leave here. I must
destroy them all before the Federation arrives. This station has a
self-destruct mechanism. I must use it to destroy the X here and on the
planet. I must send them to oblivion. Them, the station, and myself, if I
have to.
Samus: Open the hatch!
I have been ordered to confine you until the ships arrive.
Samus: Don't let them do this. Can't you see what will happen, Adam?
...Adam?
Samus: ...
...Who is Adam?
Samus: ...A friend of mine.
And what would this ...friend advise you to do now?
Samus: He would know that the only way to end this is to start the
self-destruct cycle. He'd know how important it is...
Did this "Adam" care for you? Would he sit in a safe Command Room and order
you to die?
Samus: He would understand that some must live and some must die... He knew
what it meant. He made that sacrifice once.
So he chose life for you? Our fair warrior, Samus Aran... Your Adam gave his
life so that you might keep yours... For the sake of the universe...
Samus: ...
How foolish.
Samus: How dare you! How could you hope to understand, machine?
You know that detonating this station in high orbit would not guarantee the
complete extinction of the X parasites, even though the station would be
utterly destroyed... You would only succeed in removing the one obstacle to
the galaxy's ruin...yourself. You would ignore this simple fact and choose
death. When Adam decided who would live, he chose incorrectly.
Samus: ...!
...If you were to alter the station's orbit, then you might be able to include
the planet in the vaporization field of the self-destruct detonation.
Samus: ...?
You would have to start the propulsion sequence now. Before the Federation
arrives. Samus, this is your last mission. Go to the Operations Room and
adjust the station's orbit path to intercept SR388. Then return to your ship
and escape. Move quickly, and stay alive. That's an order! Any objections,
Lady?"
"That perfect military mind... The wisdom of Adam Malkovich continued to serve
even after death. Until today, I had no idea that the minds of leaders and
scientists were frequently uploaded to computers. My incredible reunion with
Adam may have saved the universe... But how will the beings of the universe
view our resolve? I doubt they will understand what we did...the danger we
barely averted. They will hold tribunals and investigations. They will hold
us responsible. Adam understood this, and he spoke to me in my anger...
"Do not worry. One of them will understand. One of them must." I've
reflected upon his words, and I see the wisdom in them. We are all bound by
our experiences. They are the limits of our consciousness. But in the end,
the human soul will ever reach for the truth... This is what Adam taught me.
Just one detail still bothers me. This ship can only be started manually.
Yet, before I faced the Omega Metroid, the ship moved on it's own, guided by
someone's hands. Is it possible? Adam...?
Lady, what's troubling you? You wonder how I started the ship? Just think
about it. They [the Etecoons and Dachoras] lent me a hand..."

As you see, Samus had feelings for Adam. She named the computer after her long dead friend.. It seems it's always been on her ship..
[size=small][Edit by Lord Khyron on [TIME]1110485641[/TIME]][/size]

What does the ship have to do with readouts and log info though? Her suit is a Chozo Suit, and her ship is human made. Completely different, so I doubt that the ship would store the data she collects from scans.

I was pointing out that several FAQ people quote in their FAQS and on the message boards at gamefaqs.com that the voice recording the logs is Adam's voice via integration into her power suit.
O.o I was just asking if you all believed that crap.
I don't think ADAM is mentioned in Mp 1 or 2.. So forget the point.
Anyways, someone told Samus where to go in MP 1 and 2.. so Adam could have been alive at the time.
I wanna know when Adam died and when he saved Samus! :D

I doubt any human technology could integrate with the Chozo technology. After all, in MP1 there are several 'Pirate Data' logs which state that the technologically advanced Space Pirates are constantly trying to duplicate her Power Suit, with no success (although its quite funny when they talk about duplicating the Morph Ball :) ). They can only manage to duplicate (poorly) the weaponry. So, I don't believe that 'crap' :P. And I think this whole 'Adam' thing was stupid for Nintendo to bring up. Wasn't Samus raised by the Chozo? When, and where would she have time for a relationship? She ALWAYS works alone, and has never know anything except hunting Metroid and Space Pirates...

Well Adam was her CO in Federation headquarters..
Fusion has a hidden dialogue too, with Adam and the head of the Federation speaking, making it Adam's idea to not inform Samus of the enhancements she could get..
Anyways, in Mp 2, the Space Pirates Morph ball! O.o
I saw like one breed turn into a ball and then out of a ball, they couldn't roll like it..

Well I'm only about 33% done, but so far I haven't seen that. I've only seen the Ing Morph Ball because it stole the MB from your suit and you had to kill it to get the MB back.
EDIT: Adam was her CO in Federation headquarters? She's never worked for the Federation, she was rasied by the Chozo then was sent by the Chozo to eliminate the Space Pirates, then she got tangled up with the Metroids. The Federation would only hire her, not work with her.
Also, about the MP2 MB Ing, I'm not sure if thats true, but it is for MB Bomb, Spider Ball and Speed Ball, so I know the Ing can MB somehow.

[size=small][Edit by Tekno-Crystal on [TIME]1110522320[/TIME]][/size]
