No, they're not crap. <p>As a citizen, it is imperative that you <i>give a shit</i>. You must care. If you stop caring, that is when you forfeit your control to random happenings. If you are unhappy with your candidates, then at least go to destroy your ballots. This makes a point too.<p>As a voter can get a bunch of friends together to vote, which <b>does</b> have an effect. After all, what happens in your county is dependant upon you.

Theoretically in the US, the electoral college decides the presidency.<p>So therefore, the popular vote has no count and the electoral candidates can go against the pop vote just like in the past.<p>Voting for Presidency has no purpose, for the Electoral college decides it.<p>Now for congressman, it may be good to vote.

Voter apathy is one thing I cannot stand. You <b>must</b> vote, else you have no right to complain about the candidate who gets elected. If all else fails, as others have mentioned, destroy your ballot... it show dissatisfaction with <i>all</i> the candidates, which is a valid statement. This is your world, it is not only your right to care, it's your duty.

I agree. Why do you complain about the parties when you don't show enough interest in them by voting. You could always spoil your ballot if you care for none.<p>Anyone following the UK election?<p>The Labour majority is massively down from last time. And the popular vote is very, very low in comparison.

Now you're just complaining, and no one hears you because you didn't/don't vote.<p>In Belgium, people are forced to vote by law. That's good. It's not like in the US, where not many people vote, and the ones who do are the extreme ones, who then decide the country's fate, including the people who didn't vote.

Believe it or not, it isn't a good policy. For one, not everyone can get to the polls. Two, there may not be a candidate that you want to select. Three, it is a privilige to vote, and you should be allowed to give up that privilige.
