Metalheads?

A question that has been nagging at me for a while: do we have any metalheads in the crowd? If so, I'd like to get a discussion going. What are you favorite metal bands? Genres of metal? Ever been to a concert? What's in your collection? Anything in general about metal, really.<p>I can start. I'm a fan of the most typical genre, Heavy Metal, though I've been known to listen to Thrash Metal and Progressive Power Metal. I'm a big fan of Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Symphony X, Iced Earth and Dio (when the mood strikes me... he's a bit too rock & roll for me). <p>Now, your thoughts.<p>(The first person to name the band that my avatar is from gets a... uh, I'll think of something.)<br><p>[size=small][Edit by LaconianShot on [TIME]1116370170[/TIME]][/size]

You should check out a band called Halo Down..<p>http://www.halodownmusic.com/<p>They are a band being signed by Sony and from the fans reaction, their music is great.<p>Also, their site has mp3's of their songs to download. <p>You might like them Laco, Chris, one of the band members always likes new fans.

Halo Down has some nice songs

It's interesting to find bands that just want to be known, such as Halo Down. I'm currently in the process of downloading "Execution", so I'm not sure whether I like their sound or not, but hopefully they'll be a band apart from metal cliches. Out I say!<p>Corey, I think you'd probably like Iron Maiden and Iced Earth if you enjoy Megadeth... they're more melodic than the thrashy Megadeth, as Heavy Metal tends to be, but you'll still like them I would think.<br>I used to be really into alternative and rock, but I've moved away from it. Yes, I still listen to great bands like the Foo Fighters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but I find the genre of rock itself to be too thin... I suppose that's why I've always enjoyed metal; it's far more dynamic in vocals and it's far more guitar driven. <br>An excellent site as far information on metal goes is <br>http://www.metalstorm.ee<p>EDIT: Listened to the Halo Down song. Oh well, that is just one of 3.<p>They do have some generic songs, I wonder when Chris will put one of the Ballads up..<p>All in all, to be signed, is a accomplishment.<p>If Blind Guardian can redeem itself, so can Halo Down.

The difference: Blind Guardian has major talent and a very unique sound, just didn't know what to do with it... a concept album about Lord of the Rings leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Whereas Halo Down just sounds generic and the vocalist has no where near as much talent as the vocalists of Blind Guardian. Now, I'm not going to sing Blind Guardian's praise, because I'm not much of a fan, but I think that Halo Down has a long way to go before they deserve to get signed.

I agree. But apparently the vocalist doesn't matter to the fans here.<p>Still, they are worth a listen to for the 3 songs.<p>Legal mp3's also.. LOL<p>Blind Guardian did great on "The Bard's Song" the "Bards song (Hobbit)" is heavy metal, not acoustic.

I listen to alot of metal but not any one type of metal, i listen to songsthat i like, and i get tired of some of it and stuff. bu t my favorite bands of all time are: Rob Zombie, Skindred, Mudvayne, and Slipknot. But I also listen to Korn and Tool.

Jesus, I thought Rika left. Certainly was called for after those PM she sent to Dreamer.<p>In any case, Metallica remains on my (large) list of crappy bands because of the brainless lyrics and the sueing of fans. They've forgotten where they came from... the reason why they became popular was tape trading. <br>EDIT: And as far as thrash metal goes, Megadeth has Metallica beat by a long shot.
